(ESP-ENG) Super Mario Bros - A real adaptation of a videogame!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Finally the moment would come, the one in which I was finally going to see the movie that had generated in me an absurd hype for all that it means in my life and in the lives of many and is that like almost all of us who have enjoyed this wonder we grew up trying to get this Italian plumber to rescue Princess Peach going from castle to castle dodging infinite worlds and difficulties. Mario I think he was the first superhero we met without realizing that he was really a superhero, always with the tenacity and drive to go after Bowser to defeat him and thus achieve his goal of saving the damsel in distress.
The movie is not far from that reality, but this time it seems that Peach is very capable of facing whatever is put in front of her and no, I know what you may be thinking and the truth is that at no time this situation was forced or at least I did not perceive it that way and in the end the help of everyone was needed to achieve the goal. As the title says, I consider it to be one of the best adaptations, the most real and sincere that has been made with respect to a video game and look at the fact that there have been several that simply never filled the shoes of the original stories. But well, without further ado, let's talk a little bit about what this adventure of the mustached brothers was or is.
The story is not very complex. We start with the two brothers, Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day), who live in New York with their family. Tired of working for someone else they decide to start a business where they would be their own bosses so, oh surprise, they fall into the world of plumbing. As always, the beginnings are not easy, so the work they had to do ended badly until one day they decided to go big. In the streets of this city an accident occurred so they, believing they are capable of repairing it, get down to work without knowing that this would lead them to the adventure of their lives.
Under the city they notice a large pipe which will drag them through several worlds until they finally fall into the Mushroom Kingdom or so Mario thinks until he realizes that Luigi is lost. It is here where the adventure begins, Mario must do the impossible to rescue his brother and to do so he will ask for help from anyone who can help him. Honestly this film has two strong points, the inevitable nostalgia and each and every one of the references that throughout the film we will see, from small details in scenes such as gestures and sounds to the soundtrack are things that perfectly evoke the entire universe of this game.
As I was saying, the references that allude to almost every game throughout history are there and if you are a fan you will easily recognize them. And here I want to stop. This movie is made for the fans, does this mean that if I have never played Mario I can't watch it? - You can watch it and you will understand it but the effect will not be the same. And it is a reality because there are those who have criticized it, which is their right, but those people in the end did not understand the true meaning of the film, which is simply to enjoy. It is an hour and a half where people of all ages are going to have an incredible time immersed in these pipes.
The animation is another impeccable detail. Illumination were in charge, people who made the whole universe of My Favorite Villain and the Minions. Very sincerely I was surprised how well done is something that is very complicated to do and that when there is something that is out of itself is quite noticeable. Well in this case it was not like that, the animation is of supreme quality, the characters' gestures, grimaces, expressions, everything is extremely realistic and that is something that gives an extra value to the movie. It is so easy to do things well, this film is the living example of that. Besides there are scenes that are very enjoyable, the rainbow track and Peach's challenge to Mario to see if he is fit to help her is without a doubt one of the best you will see.
The precedent that this game has in the movies goes back to 1993 where they "tried" to do something decent and in the end it turned out to be a resounding failure. That one starred John Leguizamo among others. I say this because throughout history there have been attempts to take the world of video games to the movies, it happened with Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Sonic, Doom, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Warcraft and even Pokémon and a long etcetera. Some of these have had good results but others have been a total disaster. It's not easy because if there are demanding fans, it's the gamers, since the sense of belonging is maximum; luckily Mario Bros is leaving everyone happy and demonstrating that it is possible to make something of great level. I think that window has opened and I hope it won't close soon.
Jack Black who plays Bowser, Chris Pratt himself, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day and Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong) were the absolute stars of this project. We all know Jack Black's charisma and grace and with Bowser he more than proved it, "Peaches" from now on will be an anthem that I doubt will be soon forgotten. Undoubtedly the best character is him, with respect to all but the twists we see in the personality of this villain are impressive, in the end he is nothing more than a misunderstood and in love being who wants to annihilate everyone. The relationship of Mario and Luigi is another thing that is very enjoyable, that brotherhood is very nice and the way in which it is embodied on screen is very top, very worthy of the game the truth.
9.5/10 because as I have always said, there is no perfect movie. It's a gem of a film, everything is well done, unlocked memories, lots of action, lots of comedy, you genuinely laugh, the references are there and that enriches the experience when we are watching it and the animation is very top, very up to par. As a die hard Mario fan and gamer, I don't see anything wrong with this movie. As I said, it's an hour and a half long, just enough time because it doesn't make it heavy. I leave the trailer here.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
