Creo que el titulo delata un poco temprano pero la verdad es que no tengo intención de crear ningún tipo hype o expectativa con respecto a una de las mejores series/miniseries que he visto este año siendo, como ya es costumbre, una producción de la gente de Apple TV+. Cada vez que hago una reseña de esta gente siempre digo lo mismo: no hay compañía de streaming en la actualidad que le llegue en términos de calidad a los de Apple, no existe; ni Netflix, ni HBO, Prime Video, ninguna es capaz de igualar el alto nivel de sus producciones. Pues con The Crowded Room creo que volvieron a romper el molde al entregarnos unos de los thrillers psicológicos más imponentes y mejores actuados en bastante tiempo.

I think the title gives away a bit early but the truth is that I have no intention of creating any kind of hype or expectation regarding one of the best series/miniseries I've seen this year being, as usual, a production of the Apple TV+ people. Every time I do a review of these people I always say the same thing: there is no streaming company nowadays that reaches Apple's in terms of quality, it doesn't exist; neither Netflix, nor HBO, Prime Video, none is able to match the high level of their productions. Well, with The Crowded Room I think they broke the mold again by delivering one of the most impressive and best acted psychological thrillers in quite some time.

Confieso que si, que había escuchado de esta historia al ser uno de los trabajos más desafiantes y complicados en lo que Tom Holland había participado, dicho por él mismo, y es que la preparación mental y actoral que supuso interpretar lo que tuvo que hacer en esta miniserie fue una locura. La verdad no sabía que esperar, solo que Holland estaría sobresaliente y que además acompañado con una de las actrices que de igual manera disfruto ver, Amanda Seyfried, quien desde ya les digo que en esta trama realiza una joya de actuacion también. Es una historia llena de intriga y suspenso, creo que van de la mano porque todo lo que pasa es desconcertante, crees que todo va en una línea hasta que te das cuenta que no, que algo no cuadra y que anda mal y entonces llega lo inesperado. Pero bueno, sin más hablemos un poco más de esta gran miniserie.

I confess that yes, I had heard of this story being one of the most challenging and complicated jobs in which Tom Holland had participated, said by himself, and is that the mental and acting preparation involved in interpreting what he had to do in this miniseries was crazy. I really didn't know what to expect, only that Holland would be outstanding and that he would be accompanied by one of the actresses that I also enjoy watching, Amanda Seyfried, who I can already tell you that in this plot performs a jewel of acting as well. It is a story full of intrigue and suspense, I think they go hand in hand because everything that happens is disconcerting, you think everything is going in one line until you realize that it is not, that something is wrong and then comes the unexpected. But well, without further ado, let's talk a little more about this great miniseries.

Lo primero que hay que comentar es que esta historia es basada en hechos reales, esto sucedió en la década de los ochenta, no exactamente de la forma en como nos la presentan acá pero el trasfondo de los protagonistas es exactamente el mismo. Comenzamos con Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland) un tipo el cual estuvo involucrado en un tiroteo en plena ciudad de Nueva York por el cual fue arrestado. En el tiempo antes del juicio es investigado e interrogado por una terapeuta, Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), quien se da cuenta de que algo no está bien con Danny, hay algo que no le termina de encajar en lo que a su personalidad se refiere, siente que en su mente están pasando cosas. Es por esto que a lo largo de estos interrogatorios o conversaciones que sostienen los dos se empiezan a descubrir cosas que el propio Danny puede que no tenga conciencia.

The first thing to mention is that this story is based on real events, this happened in the eighties, not exactly the way it is presented here but the background of the protagonists is exactly the same. We start with Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland) a guy who was involved in a shooting in the middle of New York City for which he was arrested. In the time before the trial he is investigated and interrogated by a therapist, Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), who realizes that something is not right with Danny, there is something that does not quite fit him as far as his personality is concerned, he feels that things are going on in his mind. This is why throughout these interrogations or conversations that the two begin to discover things that Danny himself may not be aware of.

En paralelo nos van desarrollando la historia del propio Danny para darnos contexto de como ha sido su vida, su infancia, su familia, amigos, relaciones sociales, etc, con la finalidad de que podamos entender que es lo que realmente está pasando. Poco a poco todo se va volviendo más turbio y complicado al punto de que uno como espectador muchas veces nos quedamos un poco desubicados porque no entendemos el por que de algunas cosas, a lo que no nos queda otro remedio que dejar que avance la historia para ir aclarando el camino. Finalmente descubrimos todo pero pagando el precio de que nuestra mente literalmente explota al momento de que todas las piezas comienzan a ponerse en su lugar.

In parallel we develop Danny's own story to give us context of how his life has been, his childhood, his family, friends, social relationships, etc., in order that we can understand what is really going on. Little by little everything is becoming more murky and complicated to the point that one as a viewer many times we are a little out of place because we do not understand the why of some things, to what we have no choice but to let the story progress to be clarifying the way. Finally we discover everything but paying the price that our mind literally explodes when all the pieces begin to fall into place.

El único error de esta serie es que puede que te de pistas, antes de verla, sobre el personaje en cuestión del que se habla por lo que te recomiendo que vayas desde cero, es decir, me leas y no busques más nada para que así la sorpresa sea más genuina y te impacte más. Como te comenté antes estamos ante un thriller psicológico y dramático que consta de 10 capítulos en donde veremos como se va desenmarañando hilo por hilo la mente de Danny, tal cual estuviésemos en una sesión de terapia. Pero no toda la serie es eso porque hay historias que contar, hay personajes que son vitales para que esta trama tenga sentido y mientras la mente de Danny se va desfragmentando a ellos los iremos conociendo uno por uno, empatizaremos con unos, no tanto con otros, pero al final todos y cada uno tienen un propósito: ayudar al pobre de Danny.

The only flaw of this series is that it may give you clues, before watching it, about the character in question so I recommend that you go from scratch, that is, read me and do not look for anything else so that the surprise is more genuine and impact you more. As I said before we are facing a psychological and dramatic thriller consisting of 10 chapters where we will see how Danny's mind is unraveling thread by thread, as if we were in a therapy session. But not all the series is that because there are stories to tell, there are characters that are vital for this plot to make sense and while Danny's mind is defragmenting we will get to know them one by one, we will empathize with some, not so much with others, but in the end each and every one has a purpose: to help poor Danny.

Es una historia complicada de ver, hay pasajes que de verdad son incomodos y rudos pero necesarios para entender la naturaleza de todo. La miniserie tiene dos caras, la áspera y cruel que tiene que ver mucho con la vida en si de Danny y la compasiva y cariñosa que se da cuando Rya está presente. Las dos son interesantes y atrapantes porque hace que la intriga aumente, por un lado porque vamos descubriendo los secretos de Danny y su pasado y por el otro porque cada conversación es abrir una caja de pandora, realmente no sabes que esperar y todo esto sin perder la calidez y cercanía que representa el estar de frente a Rya, es como que la tormenta que hay alrededor se calma de manera súbita solo con hablar con ella.

It is a complicated story to watch, there are passages that are really uncomfortable and rough but necessary to understand the nature of everything. The miniseries has two sides, the harsh and cruel that has to do much with Danny's life itself and the compassionate and loving that occurs when Rya is present. Both of them are interesting and catching because it makes the intrigue increase, on the one hand because we discover Danny's secrets and his past and on the other hand because each conversation is like opening a pandora's box, you really don't know what to expect and all this without losing the warmth and closeness that represents being in front of Rya, it is like the storm that is around suddenly calms down just by talking to her.

Nunca se pierde el interés, al contrario, a medida que avanzan los episodios la trama te va enganchando poco a poco. Siento que la historia está muy bien armada, es como un gran rompecabezas el cual paso a paso va teniendo sentido. No me gusta exagerar en las reseñas y aunque puede parecer que eso es lo que estoy haciendo con toda sinceridad les digo que no, terminé muy sorprendido y complacido con lo que vi, sobre todo con las actuaciones que lo son todo acá. Cuando mezclas dos buenos actores, personajes que dejan huellas y temas sensibles como el abuso sexual, la violencia en muchas formas y todo lo referente a problemas mentales y su respectiva salud pues el resultado tiene que ser sobresaliente.

You never lose interest, on the contrary, as the episodes progress the plot hooks you little by little. I feel that the story is very well put together, it's like a big puzzle which step by step makes sense. I don't like to exaggerate in my reviews and although it may seem like that's what I'm doing, in all sincerity I say no, I ended up very surprised and pleased with what I saw, especially with the performances that are everything here. When you mix two good actors, characters that leave their mark and sensitive issues such as sexual abuse, violence in many forms and everything related to mental problems and their respective health, the result has to be outstanding.

La versatilidad de Tom Holland me dejó loco, ya uno sabía el buen actor que había debajo del traje de Spiderman pero verlo acá con un personaje tan complicado y denso fue una muestra del material actoral que tiene, todas las facetas que verán de él compiten entre si por ser la mejor; no tiene desperdicio ni un minuto en cámara. Y que hablar de Amanda, lo último que vi de ella fue The Dropout y allí me sorprendió, pues ahora fue la reafirmación de esa sorpresa, creo que está muy cerca por ser el personaje más top de la serie, el nivel de actuacion, los diálogos, lo que se aprende con ella con solo escucharla es algo muy especial y eso solo se logra interpretando a la altura.

Tom Holland's versatility left me crazy, one already knew what a good actor he was under the Spiderman suit but seeing him here with such a complicated and dense character was a sample of the acting material he has, all the facets that you will see of him compete with each other to be the best; not a minute on camera is wasted. And what to talk about Amanda, the last thing I saw of her was The Dropout and there she surprised me, now was the reaffirmation of that surprise, I think she is very close to be the top character of the series, the level of acting, the dialogues, what you learn with her just by listening to her is something very special and that can only be achieved by playing at the height.

Quisiera decirles más pero no puedo y es que hay tanto todavía por hablar y personajes por mencionar que hacerlo sería caer en spoilers innecesarios. 9.5/10, esta miniserie roza mucho la perfección, por lo menos bajo mi punto de vista. Lo único es que no cuidaron mucho el contexto de los personajes a la hora de la sinopsis y que quizás 10 capítulos son muchos, con 7 u 8 hubiese estado bien. Pero esto no quita lo increíblemente buena que es, las actuaciones son de mucha calidad, vale y merece la pena que la vayan a ver, es una historia muy interesante, fue polémica en su momento lo que la hace fascinante. I would like to tell you more but I can't, there is so much to talk about and so many characters to mention that to do so would be to fall into unnecessary spoilers. 9.5/10, this miniseries is close to perfection, at least in my point of view. The only thing is that they didn't take much care of the context of the characters at the time of the synopsis and that perhaps 10 chapters are too many, 7 or 8 would have been fine. But this does not detract from how incredibly good it is, the performances are of high quality, it is worth watching, it is a very interesting story, it was controversial at the time which makes it fascinating. Que buena reseña amigo, ya tenía ganas de verla porque sale Emmy Rossum y Amanda lo hizo muy bien en The Dropout así que con tu post me dan muchas mas ganas de verla porque desde hace rato tengo ganas de ver un thriller psicológico que rompa mi mente XD

Emmy es la mamá de Danny, la verdad su papel es vital porque influye mucho en lo que llegó a ser el propio Danny en el futuro. Una mujer que sufre mucho en silencio pero con sus cosas cuestionables.

9.5 es una buena puntuación, no tenía idea de esta serie, sin duda debe valer la pena de ver por todo lo que dices. Las actuaciones excelentes que mencionas suenan bien, eso, más la mezcla de todos los temas que trata sin duda logran llamar mi atención. :) Buen post, saludos

Que al final las puntuaciones son muy subjetivas pero si, la serie creo que vale mucho la pena de ver. Espero que la veas porque estoy seguro que te va a gustar. Las actuaciones son lo mejor, muy bien logradas.

Es una de las series que tengo pensado ver. Me atrajo el tema del tiroteo y el esquema criminal. La semana pasada vi el trailer y me llamó la atención. Esa dualidad en la serie de lo cruel y lo sutil puede hacer un buen juego. La calificación creo que esta bien para ratificar verla.

Si, está cool. Si bien es verdad las calificaciones son basadas en meros gustos personales creo que lo que hace Holland y Amanda es increíble, además de que la historia es una locura. No leas nada, no veas créditos ni sinopsis, lo mejor acá es dejarse sorprender.

Me faltan dos episodios y aunque los créditos iniciales hay spoiler , me ha gustado la serie. Tarde en verla porque había visto opiniones muy negativas , pero a mi me encantan las historias de asesinos. Este fin de semana me la termino. Amanda Seyfried esta hermosa y Holland excelente.

Una desgracia lo de los spoilers, yo porque no busqué pero el que lo haga ya va a saber todo de la historia. Yo no entiendo la critica, he visto que la han destrozado hasta más no poder pero no se, no veo cual es un argumento valido para ellos. Amanada es de lo mejor de la serie, ver esas sesiones de terapia es como un bálsamo.
