We often develop preconceived notions about certain figures, whether real or fictional, such as Robin Hood. This man, a product of English folklore, was portrayed through stories of his exploits as a benevolent figure who stole from the rich to give to the poor—a true hero. But was that the reality? Was the great Robin Hood the hero everyone believed him to be? This film explores the answer to that question. I have to admit that I never asked myself that question, despite having seen films about him, but it took Hugh Jackman to clarify things for us.
Muchas veces y por muchos años podemos llegar a tener ideas preconcebidas acerca de ciertos personajes ya sean reales o ficticios como es el caso de Robin Hood. Este hombre producto del folclore inglés gracias a los relatos de la gente producto de sus hazañas lo ubicaron como una persona benevolente que le robaba a los ricos para dárselos a los pobres, es decir, como todo un héroe. Pero esa fue la realidad, el gran Robin Hood fue el héroe que todos creían?, la respuesta a esa pregunta es lo que explora este film. Tengo que admitir que esa pregunta nunca me la hice a pesar de haber visto películas de él pero bueno, tuvo que llegar Hugh Jackman a aclararnos el panorama.
As I was saying, we have an old, dark, and deeply tormented Robin Hood who, with the passage of time, seems to be seeking death. The weight of his conscience prevents him from standing tall, and of course, the crimes he has committed are countless; men, women, and children have paid the price for crossing his path, and now he lives with those "ghosts" day after day. One night, while trying to help his faithful companion, Little John, he is gravely wounded in a fight against descendants of the Vikings themselves, to the point of being on the verge of death. He is taken to an old monastery to be healed and recover.
Como les decía tenemos a un viejo, oscuro y muy atormentado Robin Hood que con el pasar del tiempo pareciera que lo que está buscando es su muerte y es que el peso de su consciencia no lo deja mantenerse de pie y claro. Han sido innumerables los crímenes que ha cometido sin ningún tipo de distinción; hombres, mujeres y niños pagaron el precio de cruzarse con él y ahora vive con esos "fantasmas" día tras día. Una buena noche y tratando de ayudar a su fiel compañero, Little John, resulta gravemente herido en una pelea contra unos descendientes de los propios vikingos al punto de que termina al borde de la muerte por lo que es llevado a un antiguo monasterio a ser curado y recuperarse.
As he lies dying, he is cared for by a prioress who patiently and gently tends to his wounds and aids his recovery. The point is that, while in that convent, he will have the time and opportunity to redeem himself and seek some form of redemption. Essentially, we have a story of repentance and self-torture where Robin Hood constantly reminds himself of who he is while simultaneously trying to leave that version behind. What's truly cool about the film is that it shows us the most realistic side of the character: the violent, raw, and uncaring side; not the happy-go-lucky one who spent his time in the forest singing and robbing the rich villains we were taught as children. Here we have a glimpse of what popular ballads said or sang about him.
Moribundo es atendido por una priora quien con paciencia y delicadeza le cura las heridas y lo ayuda en su recuperación. El tema es que él estando en aquel convento tendrá tiempo y oportunidad de redimirse y buscar alguna especie de redención. Basicamente tenemos una historia de arrepentimiento y auto tortura en donde Robin Hood constantemente se recuerde quien es al mismo tiempo que trata de dejar a esa versión atrás. Lo verdaderamente cool de la película es que nos muestra el lado más realista del personaje, el que es violento, crudo y el que no le importa a nadie; no el feliz que se la pasaba en el bosque cantando y robándole a los ricos malos que nos vendieron de pequeños; acá tenemos la muestra de lo que las baladas populares decían o cantaban sobre él.
To say that these ballads, or song-like poems, are present in the film is a great touch, as it helps us understand the context of the stories and allows us to delve deeper into how these tales were passed down through generations. It's not an action-packed, fast-paced film, although it does have some very interesting scenes; it's more of a biographical account of Robin Hood's final days. It's introspective, sometimes a bit sensitive, more so than I expected; it's a story that reveals the depth of Robin's personality and how he seeks redemption by trying to be the best he can be. Having said that, I can tell you that I, at least, wasn't bored. Visually, it's spectacular, with stunning landscapes and locations, excellent cinematography, and yes, when it needs to be violent, it is—very much so.
Decir que estas baladas o especie de poemas en forma de canciones están presentes en la película. Un toque muy bueno porque nos ayuda a tener más contexto de las historias y es una forma de adentrarnos más en como era que se propagaban dichas historias a lo largo de las generaciones. No es un film lleno de acción y movido aunque si tenga sus escenas bien interesantes; es más bien algo un poco más biográfico de como fueron los últimos días de Robin Hood. Es introspectiva, a veces un poco sensible, más de lo que es esperaba; es una historia que muestra la profundidad de la personalidad de Robin y de como busca expiarse tratando de ser lo mejor posible. Habiendo dicho esto les digo que por lo menos a mi no me aburrió, visualmente es espectacular, grandes paisajes y locaciones, buena cinematografía y si, cuando requiere ser violenta, lo es y mucho.
And of course, Robin is essentially a violent man, so when it came to portraying him as such, there was no hesitation. But he's also a man who understands what he's done and is ready and willing to face his destiny. Hugh Jackman's performance is top-notch; I don't know if the film is being overlooked, but it's one of the most solid and understated performances I've seen from him. A lot of drama and suffering. The supporting characters also do their job well. Little John, played by the great Bill Skarsgård, is perfect, and Prioress Jodie Comer is the delicate, kind, and gentle side of the story, and she will ultimately be an important figure in Robin Hood's fate. A great film; I knew it was going to be good, but it ended up surprising me quite a bit. Highly recommended if you want to see something classic and high-quality. Two hours long. Y es que claro, Robin en esencia es un hombre violento por lo que cuando había que mostrarlo como tal no había dudas en hacerlo. Pero también es hombre que entiende lo que hizo y está listo y dispuesto para afrontar su destino. La actuación de Hugh Jackman es top, no se si el film está pasando por debajo de la mesa pero es de las interpretaciones más solidas y sobrias que le he visto. Mucho drama y sufrimiento. Los personajes secundarios también hacen su labor, Little John quien es el gran Bill Skarsgård cumple a la perfección y la priora Jodie Comer quien es el lado delicado, amable y suave de todo y que al final será pieza importante en el destino de Robin Hood. Una gran película, sabía que iba a ser buena pero me terminó sorprendiendo bastante. Muy recomendada si quieren ver algo clásico y de calidad. Dos horas de duración. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Sino te aburrió debe ser una excelente película me gustaría ver ese lado humano y de arrepentimiento de un personaje que para mi ha sido como dices : bueno divertido y noble jjjeee veremos que tal
