(ESP-ENG) The Monkey | Deaths everywhere - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Behind this film we have a pair of very well known names in the horror world, James Wan (The Conjuring, Anabelle, Evil) and its director Oz Perkins (Longlegs). Not to mention that this story is originally from Stephen King. This gives us to think that we will be in front of a good horror film or at least one with all the elements of the genre. Does it happen? - I think so. If anyone here saw Toy Story 3 you will know the impact this character had on part of the story of that Pixar film and how distressing it was. Well, here Perkins used that same premise with this “toy” to which he had to change the cymbals for a drum due to a copyright issue. The result was as expected.
The plot centers on this mysterious wind-up monkey that apparently brings with it many deaths. Hal and Bill (Theo James) are twins who one day discover that this toy is among the belongings of their father, dad who left never to return. The particularity is that every time they wind it up, a death occurs around them, but not caused by the monkey directly but by chance and they end up being accidents, some of them very absurd and worthy of comedy. Little by little and the hard way they realize this so they decide to get rid of him. Too bad things are not as easy as you might think.
Years go by and when it seems that everything is back to normal, it turns out that no, the deaths are back to normal and that is synonymous that the monkey in question is close again. These brothers were estranged, they did not get along well but all this has made them communicate again against their will. From here they will have to see what to do to put an end to the whole situation. The movie is what it is, a cursed toy that brings death wherever it goes, it is not the same as with Chucky or Annabelle but the background is: the terror and despair of not being able to eliminate a simple toy from your life. Personally I liked the movie because I found the deaths very comical and funny, some were simple but the vast majority were very exaggerated and striking.
The plot is simple and basic, as are all of this style. This is not to say that it is boring and the reason for this is that one is always waiting for the next death. This brings us to the gore factor, there is plenty of it. The way in which almost all the people die are epic to the point that we see a lot of blood, exploding bodies, mutilations, decapitations and an endless number of other options not suitable if you are a person who finds it hard to see this kind of things. And terror is not only fear of the paranormal, there is the one that feeds on deaths and is lived being in a constant persecution while trying to escape from these tragedies. In that sense, as a horror film, it fulfills perfectly.
Comedy. In horror movies there has to be comedy, it's a combination that never fails. Here we see it in two ways. The experiences, the day to day life of the characters, things happen that are very similar to what you see in “Home Alone”, for example. Or with a comedy about teenagers who go to school and suffer bullying or are bullies. And the second thing is because of the crazy or crazy way in which the deaths occur, beyond alarming you what you do is laugh but not because they are bad but by the simple way in which they happen.
And finally, the performances. There is nothing to say, the level is minimal but nothing else is needed. There is no need for so much on-camera drama or great performances. The film lasts an hour and a half, the perfect time. Recommended to those who enjoy a good dose of blood and senseless deaths. It's more than enough to pass the time. I give it a 7/10. It passed the test. I leave the trailer below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
Chucky felt exaggerated in my opinion but managed to be creepy and this one looks like it follows the same storyline. A cursed toy that causes havoc wherever it finds itself. Well, if I ever come across it, I may likely hit the watch button but I’ll definitely not go looking for it because it doesn’t seem to break new grounds in the horror genre.
The truth is that no, it is a very cliché film for lovers of this genre. This doesn't mean it's bad, it's something you can watch without expecting much in return.

I saw this trailer or some stills the other day and was remembering how this toy was popularized by some sort of Steven King horror film ages ago. So now that I see it is his brainchild that this movie exists it all makes sense. I'll download it now because I tend to enjoy this sort of thing.
It's not great but it's definitely perfect for those who like gore and violence. It's a classic horror movie, nothing spectacular beyond the deaths that occur all over the place.
Me gustó bastante , es una película Muy disfrutable si te gusta la comedia oscura, y ese mono es aterrador aquí y en toy story jajja
