For a long time Marvel was or perhaps still is mired in an editorial that does not help at all, always hand in hand with Disney: making movies and series “family friendly”. This has led many fans to divorce themselves from the universe and the brand, and the superhero genre is also quite worn out. It wouldn't have to be this way if the films were of much higher quality or their series weren't as terribly bad as some of their recent titles. It's because of all this that I was reluctant to watch Daredevil until some friends recommended that I give it a chance, fortunately neither they nor I were wrong: Marvel has revived.

Durante mucho tiempo Marvel estuvo o quizás sigue estando hundido en una editorial que no ayuda en nada, siempre de la mano de Disney: hacer películas y series "family friendly". Esto ha llevado que muchos fanáticos se divorcien del universo y de la marca, esto y que el género de superhéroes también está bastante desgastado. No tendría que ser así si los films fueses de mucha más calidad o sus series no fueran tan terriblemente malas como algunas de sus últimos títulos. Es por todo esto que estaba renuente a ver Daredevil hasta que algunos amigos me recomendaron que le diera la oportunidad, afortunadamente ni ellos ni yo nos equivocamos: Marvel ha revivido.

We have Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a lawyer who has a firm that is responsible for defending people with fewer resources that can be eaten by the judicial system of New York and is that this city is painted as in decline. We know that he has special abilities, he is blind thanks to an accident but that has helped him to develop his other senses, this and his fighting skills make him super lethal. Everything changes when former mobster Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) returns to public life and decides to become mayor of New York, if the city needed anything else to decay.

Tenemos a Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), un abogado que tiene un bufete que se encarga de defender a las personas con menos recursos que pueden ser comidas por el sistema judicial de Nueva York y es que esta ciudad la pintan como en decadencia. Sabemos que él tiene habilidades especiales, es ciego gracias a un accidente pero eso lo ha ayudado a desarrollar los otros sentidos, esto y sus destrezas a la hora de pelear lo hace super letal. Todo cambia cuando el ex mafioso Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) regresa a la vida pública y decide ser alcalde de Nueva York, por si a la ciudad le faltaba algo más para decaer.

Obviously these two characters have a past, so yes, they are bitter enemies. When Fisk is elected mayor the city goes into an absolute hole as with the promise of improving it what he does is implement general chaos. The really “poetic” of all this matter is that both Murdock and Fisk do not want to remain their hidden characters, they live in a constant struggle for wanting to leave that life behind but sometimes that is inevitable, the same circumstances of life and the city will lead them to a more than obligatory confrontation. It is for all this that will begin a struggle between good and evil, although sometimes we see more evil than good.

Obviamente estos dos personajes tienen un pasado por lo que si, son enemigos acérrimos. Cuando Fisk es elegido alcalde la ciudad entra un hueco absoluto ya que con la promesa de mejorarla lo que hace es implementar un caos general. Lo realmente "poético" de todo este asunto es que tanto Murdock como Fisk no quieren seguir siendo sus personajes ocultos, viven en una lucha constante por querer dejar esa vida atrás pero a veces eso es inevitable, las mismas circunstancias de la vida y de la ciudad los llevarán a un enfrentamiento más que obligatorio. Es por todo esto que comenzará una lucha entre el bien y el mal, aunque a veces veamos más mal que bien.

When I say that Marvel is back, I'm referring to the brutality with which they assumed to show us this story. The common factor here is violence, the series from the first episode shows us how things are going to happen in New York: with beatings, fights, murders, heavy-handedness and blood, lots of blood. We are talking about a very graphic series, like The Punisher, a character that also appears here. No half measures were taken, the plot is crude when it has to be, it is cold, ruthless; in theory it is not a material for children, we are at that level. I think the word for it is gore, there is plenty of it.

Cuando hablo de que Marvel ha vuelto me refiero a la brutalidad con la que asumieron mostrarnos esta historia. El factor común acá es la violencia, la serie desde el primer episodio nos muestra cómo se van a dar las cosas en Nueva York: con golpes, peleas, asesinatos, mano dura y sangre, mucha sangre. Estamos hablando de una serie muy gráfica, como lo fue en su momento la de The Punisher, personaje que también sale acá. No se anduvieron con medias tintas, la trama es cruda cuando lo tiene que ser, es fría, despiadada; en teoría no es un material para niños, en ese nivel estamos. Creo que la palabra para eso es el gore, lo hay y en grandes cantidades.

Clearly not everything is sought to be solved with violence, there is a lot of politics, corruption, Fisk's mafia side, coercion, threats, all the ingredients that make him one of the best villains there is in Marvel. Murdock as a lawyer is also very good, we will see how he will seek justice and do good from that side even though he comes to realize that it may not be enough. The series is awesome, nothing to be bored of, lots of adrenaline and action that make each chapter better than the other. None of this would be so without the characters. Charlie Cox's work is very good, it is not the first time he plays the character so the familiarity he has with that suit is evident.

Claramente no todo se busca resolver con violencia, hay mucho de política, corrupción, el lado mafioso de Fisk, coerción, amenazas, todos los ingredientes que lo hacen uno de los mejores villanos que hay en Marvel. Murdock como abogado también es muy bueno, veremos como él buscará desde ese lado la justicia y hacer el bien aunque llegue a darse cuenta de que puede que no sea suficiente. La serie es impresionante, de aburrirse nada que ver, mucha adrenalina y acción que hacen que cada capítulo sea mejor que el otro. Nada de esto sería así sin los personajes. El trabajo de Charlie Cox es muy bueno, no es primera vez que hace del personaje por lo que la familiaridad que tiene con ese traje es evidente.

But Vincent D'Onofrio is even better. Without fear of being wrong I'd say he's one of the best characters/villains Marvel has, I've said it before but I'll say it again. Vincent's performance is impressive, the way he is consumed by the role is scary at times. He is an actor who is made for this role, there is no other who can even halfway match him. I liked Jon Bernthal, I hope Marvel decides to make a series for The Punisher, he is another actor who is made for this character. Anyway, a very well presented series, very deep and with several mythical characters of this universe (Muse, Bullseye). One of the best Marvel in recent years. There are 9 chapters. An 8/10, highly recommended to everyone. I leave the trailer here.

Pero lo de Vincent D'Onofrio es aún mejor. Sin miedo a equivocarme diría que es de los mejores personajes/villanos que tiene Marvel, ya lo dije antes pero lo repito. La interpretación de Vincent es impresionante, la forma como lo consume el papel a veces da miedo. Es un actor que está hecho para este papel, no hay otro que pueda ni medianamente igualarlo. Me gustó lo de Jon Bernthal, ojalá Marvel se decida a hacerle una serie a The Punisher, él es otro actor que está hecho para ese personaje. En fin, una serie muy bien presentada, muy profunda y con varios personajes miticos de este universo (Muse, Bullseye). De lo mejor Marvel en los últimos años. Son 9 capítulos. Un 8/10, super recomendada a todos. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Marvel has revived.

I don't think so, not yet. They are in the process of reviving. And I loved daredevil. It was peak! But I haven't seen the last episode even! Excited for season 2;)

I believe that if they continue on the path they are on, the result could be good. I haven't seen Thunderbolts but the reviews and critics are pretty good so it would be 2 important hits in this new stage! We'll see...

I wish there had been more interaction between him and the vigilante in this plot. I particularly like how they're both the opposite of justice in their own way
