When you have Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Paddy Considine in a series you automatically know it's going to be something worth watching. I myself when I discovered this was surprised to see such a complete cast for a Paramount+ series and all the actors fit perfectly with the characters they were cast to play in this British/Irish mafia story. It is a plot where criminal suspense is always present along with betrayals, power struggles, territory management, drug sales, extortion and a host of other crimes that emerge one by one throughout the chapters. Cuando en una serie tienes a Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren y Paddy Considine sabes automáticamente que será algo muy digno de ver. Yo mismo cuando descubrí esto me sorprendí al ver un elenco tan completo para una serie de Paramount+ y es que todos los actores pegan a la perfección con los personajes que les tocó interpretar en esta historia de la mafia británica/irlandesa. Es una trama en donde el suspenso criminal siempre está presente junto con las traiciones, luchas de poder, manejo de territorios, venta de drogas. extorsiones y un sinfín más de crímenes que a lo largo de los capítulos van emergiendo uno a uno.

Two families that control organized crime in London, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, are at war and conflict so that between them they threaten to destroy each other bringing down the empires of each house. In the middle of this complex situation is Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), a “fixer” who has hired the Harrigans to try to mitigate the damage so that nothing escalates to very large levels. Evidently this is done out of immense loyalty to the family of Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and to look after the interests of his family, wife and daughter in this case. He is the right hand and the muscle of this family so we will see him get pretty dirty trying to “clean up” the messes made by others.

Dos familias que controlan el crimen organizado en Londres, los Harrigan y los Stevenson, están en guerra y conflicto por lo que entre ellos amenazan con destruirse mutuamente haciendo caer los imperios de cada casa. En el medio de esta compleja situación está Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), un "solucionador" que tiene contratado los Harrigan para tratar de mitigar los daños y que nada escale a niveles muy grandes. Evidentemente esto lo hace por la lealtad inmensa que le tiene a la familia de Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) y para cuidar los intereses de su familia, esposa e hija en este caso. Él viene siendo la mano derecha y el músculo de esta familia por lo que lo veremos ensuciarse bastante tratando de "limpiar" los desastres que cometen los demás.

The origin of all this war, when you watch the series you will realize, was because of something extremely foolish done by one of the members of one of the families but as in these levels those mistakes are paid dearly because the perfect storm will be unleashed very quickly. Here what predominates is the intrigue, each episode is extremely trapping in that sense because you don't know where the betrayals and backstabbing can come from. We will always be in the environment of these families and we will see how they solve problems and deal with differences while planning how to destroy each other. But, why so much hatred? - Well, because as I said, the trigger for all this was something that can undoubtedly move the floor of the sufferer, hence the rancor.

El origen de toda esta guerra, cuando vean la serie se darán cuenta, fue por algo extremadamente tonto hecho por uno de los miembros de una de las familias pero como en estos niveles esos errores se pagan caro pues la tormenta perfecta se desatará muy rápido. Acá lo que predomina es la intriga, cada episodio es sumamente atrapante en ese sentido porque no sabes por dónde pueden llegar las traiciones y las puñaladas por la espalda. Siempre estaremos en el entorno de estas familias y veremos como resuelven los problemas y tratan las diferencias al mismo tiempo que planean como destruirse uno al otro. Pero, por que tanto odio? - pues porque como les dije, el detonante de todo esto fue algo que sin dudas puede mover el piso del que lo sufre, de ahí el rencor.

In addition to all of the above, it must be said that the series is very raw, violent and graphic as these people do not beat around the bush. Lots of shooting, torture, executions, all accompanied by a visual festival of blood. In the end it's everything you expect from a series and a story of these characteristics. Now, what is really interesting about this series is how it handles the theme of loyalty, something so in demand in this fragile world. And yes, the epicenter is to close ranks and make the small circle to see who is who and unmask the traitor because yes, at the end of the day there is someone within the Harrigans who is not playing for the same team.

Además de todo lo comentado hay que decir que la serie es muy cruda, violenta y gráfica ya que estas personas no se andan con muchos rodeos. Muchos disparos, torturas, ejecuciones, todo ello acompañado de un festival visual de sangre. Al final es todo lo que esperas de una serie y de una historia de estas características. Ahora, lo realmente interesante de esta serie es cómo maneja el tema de la lealtad, algo tan demandado en ese mundo tan frágil. Y es que si, el epicentro es cerrar filas y hacer el circulo pequeño para ver quien es quien y desenmascarar al traidor porque si, al final del día hay alguien dentro de los Harrigan que no está jugando para el mismo equipo.

The plot never gets boring, there is always something going on, there is always something to attend to, something to tie up and that makes the story very dynamic. There are a couple of very interesting plot twists towards the end of the season that help the story close on one side but open up completely on the other. The second season is not confirmed yet but everything seems to indicate that there will be because of the open way in which everything ends. The characters are very good and the performances even better. Pierce Brosnan is very top, Helen Mirren also stands out a lot being the cold and ruthless woman who pulls the strings from the shadows and good to talk about Tom Hardy is synonymous of quality, these roles fit him really well, the tough guy with few words who solves everything.

La trama no aburre en ningún momento, siempre está pasando algo, siempre hay un asunto que atender, un cabo que atar y eso que la historia sea muy dinámica. Hay un par de plot twist muy interesantes hacia el final de la temporada que ayudan a que la historia cierre por un lado pero se abra completamente por el otro. La segunda temporada no está confirmada aún pero todo parece indicar que si habrá por la forma tan abierta en la que termina todo. Los personajes son muy buenos y las actuaciones mejores todavía. Pierce Brosnan es muy top, Helen Mirren también destaca mucho siendo la mujer fría y despiadada que maneja los hilos desde las sombras y bueno hablar de Tom Hardy es sinónimo de calidad, estos papeles le quedan realmente bien, el tipo rudo y de pocas palabras que resuelve todo.
