Ryan Coogler is not the first time he works with Michael B. Jordan, he already did it in Creed and Black Panther. The main characteristic in all of them, including this film, is the exaltation of African-American culture, to give it a place in the cinema that it deserves and that this is not thanks to what people will say on social networks or simply looking to look good with everyone. Films like Sinners are successful because they are real and there is nothing imposed; this is the way to go if you want to make quality things in a film industry that every day that passes is going more and more in absolute decline where what is predominating is the lack of creativity and originality.

Ryan Coogler no es primera vez que trabaja con Michael B. Jordan, ya lo hizo en Creed y Black Panther. La característica primordial en todas ellas, incluyendo este film, es la exaltación de la cultura afroamericana, de darle un lugar en el cine que se merezca y que eso no sea gracias al qué dirán de las redes sociales o simplemente el buscar quedar bien con todo el mundo. Las películas como Sinners tienen éxito porque son reales y no hay nada impuesto; este es el camino a seguir si se quieren hacer cosas de calidad en una industria del cine que cada día que pasa va más y más en decadencia absoluta en donde lo que está predominando es la falta de creatividad y originalidad.

We have the twin brothers Smoke and Stack, both played by Michael B. Jordan, who return to their origins, the Mississippi Delta, after having been in Chicago working for none other than Al Capone. They are war veterans so their fame precedes them, everyone knows them and knows what they are capable of. They came back to start from scratch with a big idea, to open a cantina for the entire black community. What the brothers do not know is that that place is not the same and there is an evil lurking and hidden.

Tenemos a los hermanos gemelos Smoke y Stack, ambos interpretados por Michael B. Jordan, quienes regresan a sus orígenes, el Delta del Misisipi, después de haber estado en Chicago trabajando para nada más y nada menos que Al Capone. Ellos son veteranos de guerra por lo que su fama los antecede, todo el mundo los conoce y saben de los que son capaces. Regresaron para comenzar de cero con una idea por todo lo alto, abrir una cantina para toda la comunidad negra. Lo que no saben los hermanos es que aquel lugar no es el mismo y es que en él hay un mal acechando y oculto.

The film is a mixture of several genres but the really good thing is that they all complement each other perfectly. We have horror, suspense, comedy, action and gore, that can not miss to give the visual touch and exalt the plot even more. But this, beyond being a typical vampire film, is a story of resistance and dignity and the way these people could express those feelings was through music, the blues in this case. I mention this because the soundtrack is spectacular, there are a couple of musical scenes that are incredible and enrapture the viewer. That said, we could say that the musical is another of the genres that make up Sinners.

La película es una mezcla de varios géneros pero lo realmente bueno es que todos se complementan a la perfección. Tenemos el terror, suspenso, comedia, acción y gore, ese que no puede faltar para dar el toque visual y exaltar a un más la trama. Pero esto, más allá de ser el típico film de vampiros, es una historia de resistencia y dignidad y la forma en cómo estas personas podían expresar esos sentimientos era a través de la musica, del blues en este caso. Nombro esto porque la banda sonora es espectacular, hay par de escenas musicales que son increíbles y que embelesan al espectador. Dicho esto podríamos decir que el musical es otro de los géneros que conforman Sinners.

The story is divided into two parts, it should be noted that it lasts more than two hours. The beginning is to give context of who is who, where they come from, the relationships between all the characters. There is also the cultural and social context, all this will help us understand where we stand in terms of society. Chronologically these in the decade of the 30's. And the second part is where all the action and unleashed gore, the night is dyed red with the presence of these vampires of which not much is known but if they have among people long time.

La historia se divide en dos partes, hay que tener en cuenta que dura más dos horas. El principio es para dar contexto de quien es quien, de donde vienen, las relaciones que hay entre todos los personajes. También está el contexto cultural y social, todo esto nos ayudará a entender dónde estamos parados en lo que sociedad se refiere. Cronológicamente estos en la década de los 30. Y la segunda parte es donde llega toda la acción y el gore desencadenado, la noche se tiñe de rojo con la presencia de estos vampiros de los que no se sabe mucho pero si que tienen entre las personas mucho tiempo.

Another very cool factor is the paranormal and the beliefs of those times. The blues are shown as a gateway to the afterlife, in fact the main scene in the bar has a lot to do with that. There is an important sensibility here and it shows on screen. The combination between the supernatural and vampires will always be very top to see and analyze. Here there is that because these creatures are seen as spirits trapped on the earthly plane and the only salvation is to free them forever. As I said, there are many nuances in Sinners and they all go hand in hand perfectly.

Otro factor muy cool es lo paranormal y las creencias en aquellos tiempos. Al blues nos lo muestran como una puerta de conexión con el más allá, de hecho la escena principal dentro de la cantina tiene que ver mucho con eso. Hay una sensibilidad importante acá y eso se nota en pantalla. La combinación entre lo sobrenatural y los vampiros siempre será muy top de ver y analizar. Acá hay de eso porque estas criaturas son vistas como espíritus atrapados en el plano terrenal y la unica salvacion es liberarlos para siempre. Como les había comentado, hay muchos matices en Sinners y todos ellos van de la mano a la perfección.

The level of acting is of high quality. What Jordan has done is brutal, playing two characters so different, because Smoke and Stack are profoundly different, is something very complicated and that this is noticeable on screen has value. The cast is good, actors like Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo and Hailee Steinfeld have starring roles that stand out and are very well done. Each character has their own magic, developed in detail so that you don't have to wonder who is who and what their personalities are like. In short, a very good film where inexplicably racism, slavery, resilience and African-American culture are united with the terror and supernatural of vampires. 9/10. El nivel de actuación es de alta calidad. Lo hecho por Jordan es brutal, interpretar a dos personajes tan diferentes, porque Smoke y Stack son profundamente distintos, es algo muy complicado y que eso se note en pantalla tiene valor. El cast es bueno, actores como Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo y Hailee Steinfeld tienen papeles estelares que sobresalen y que están muy bien logrados. Cada personaje tiene su magia, desarrollados al detalle hace que no te quedes con la duda de quien es quien y de que como son sus personalidades. En fin, una película muy buena en donde de manera inexplicable se unen el racismo, la esclavitud, la resiliencia y la cultura afroamericana con el terror y lo sobrenatural de los vampiros. 9/10. Creo que será de lo mejor del año. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

I agree with you! Jordan did a great job playing Stacks and Smoke at the same time especially because they were two different personalities.

Me encantó! Hay un par de secuencias brillantes, y me gustó mucho la forma en la que utilizaron la música, complementa muy bien la película a nivel temático.

Lo de la música es muy top, la conexión que le metieron con el más allá fue muy buena. Además de que esa escena principal del blues en la cantina fue increíble.
