Rotten Tomatoes, the famous film and television review site, gives this "movie" a 3% rating, one of the lowest scores I've seen this year and probably of the decade, I'm not exaggerating. You tell me, then, what are you doing watching this film if it's so terrible? Curiosity is sometimes hard to control, and to have an opinion, you have to do your homework and sit down and watch. This film is going viral, but it's not because of its quality or anything like that; it's because it's so bad that people are watching it. People just want to feed the meme that Ice Cube's work has become. And yes, this hour-and-a-half story is lamentable, absurd, and even seems like a bad joke.

Ustedes me dirán, que haces entonces viendo este film si es tan terrible? - la curiosidad es algo que a veces es complicada de controlar y que para poder opinar pues hay que hacer la tarea y sentarse ver. Esta película está sumamente viral pero no es por su calidad ni nada parecido, es porque es tan mala que las personas la están viendo, la gente solo quiere alimentar el meme en el que se convirtió este trabajo de Ice Cube. Y es que si, esta historia de hora y media es lamentable, absurda y hasta parece un chiste de mal gusto.

Wil Radford is a guy who works at the Department of Homeland Security behind a computer. His job is to "protect" the country by spying on people in their daily lives. It turns out, and to make a long story short, that some kind of alien invasion is taking place via a meteor shower, which ultimately translates into a global threat. The premise is that Wil, without leaving his chair, finds himself capable of resolving this crisis by having control of absolutely everything (security cameras, the ability to hack any device, military decisions, etc.) by simply typing quickly and copying and pasting information as if it were installing a game on a PC.

Wil Radford es un tipo que trabaja en el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional detrás de una computadora. Su función es "proteger" al país espiando a las personas en su día a día. Resulta y para hacer el cuento corto, que ocurre una especie de invasión alienígena a través de una lluvia de meteoritos lo que al final se traduce es una amenaza mundial. La premisa es que Wil, sin levantarse de esa silla, se vea capaz de resolver esta crisis teniendo el control de absolutamente todo (cámaras de seguridad, capacidad de hackeo de cualquier dispositivo, decisiones militares, etc) con tan solo teclear rápidamente y copiar y pegar información como si aquello fuese un instalar un juego en una PC.

The story is told through the "Screenlife" format, which is what you see in the photos; the entire plot takes place on a screen. The problem is that this resource is blatantly abused here, making the experience clumsy, chaotic, and even parody because, at the end of the day, it's so unreal that everything ends up being laughable. Between watching what's happening on a screen and simultaneously focusing on Ice Cube's unfriendly face, the whole process becomes lamentable. The plot itself makes no sense; the plot twists are unserious and super "convenient." Besides him, his two sons are the protagonists, young people who, due to life circumstances, are key to solving this crisis; not world leaders and armies, nothing like that, but these two boys, one of whom is stuck in a room playing.

La historia es contada a través del formato "Screenlife" que es lo que ven en las fotos, es cuando toda la trama ocurre en una pantalla. El tema es que aquí se abusa descaradamente de este recurso haciendo que la experiencia sea torpe, caótica y hasta paródica porque al final del día es tan irreal todo termina dando risa. Entre ver lo que pasa en una pantalla al mismo tiempo que enfocan la cara de pocos amigos de Ice Cube hace que todo el proceso sea lamentable. La trama en si no tiene sentido, los plot twist son poco serios y super "convenientes" y es que además de él sus dos hijos son protagonistas, jóvenes que por cosas de las vidas son claves para resolver esta crisis; no los líderes mundiales y ejércitos, nada que ver, sino este par de muchachos que uno de ellos está metido en un cuarto jugando.

Hacking a Tesla, a refrigerator, random people's cell phones, and street security cameras just to have them monitor a specific person are some of the atrocities we see here. Not to mention taking control of any drone in existence, even one from a delivery service that's used as a military drone to destroy things. And the icing on the cake is that it all ends up being resolved thanks to a USB flash drive: information that will save the planet is sent on one of these now-obsolete devices. I wish all this were a lie, but it isn't. There were screenwriters, producers, and a director who thought this would be incredible and an excellent idea.

Hackear un Tesla, una nevera, celulares de personas randoms y las cámaras de seguridad de las calles solo para que vigilen a una persona en específico son algunas de las barbaridades que vemos acá. Esto sin mencionar tener el control de cualquier dron que exista incluso sea uno de un servicio de encomienda que es usado como uno de uso militar para destruir cosas. Y la guinda del pastel es que finalmente todo se resuelve gracias a un USB o pendrive, una información que va a salvar al planeta es enviada en uno de estos ya obsoletos dispositivos. Quisiera que todo esto fuera mentira pero no lo es, hubo guionistas, productores y un director que pensaron que esto sería increíble y una excelente idea.

To wrap things up, we have to talk about the ending. In addition to this invasion, part of the plot focuses on Wil's personal life and his relationship with his children. The entire film is a struggle to mend those ties. What happens? They didn't show anything about it; the director wasn't interested in letting the viewer know how they reconcile. We also didn't see how the country or the world ended up; nothing is known beyond making it clear that Wil was a hero. Despite this, I'd like you to see it, but for what I said before, out of curiosity to see something like this, which we certainly don't see every day. I give it a 1/10. I'll leave the trailer here.

Ya para ir terminando hay que hablar del final. Además de esta invasión parte de la trama se centra en la vida personal de Wil y en su relación con sus hijos, todo el film es una lucha por mejorar esos lazos; que sucede? - que no mostraron absolutamente nada al respecto, al director no le interesó que el espectador supiera cómo se reconcilian. Tampoco vimos como quedó el país o el mundo, no se sabe nada más allá dejar bien claro que Wil fue un héroe. A pesar de esto quisiera que la vean pero por lo que dije antes, por la curiosidad de ver algo así que ciertamente no vemos todos los días. Para mi un 1/10. Les dejo el trailer por acá.

No he visto la película, pero nomás recuerdo los comentarios que hay en internet acerca de ella. Nomás he visto repetirse el clip de la explosión con las nubes que parecen hechas por una computadora de los años 90s y a Ice Cube Con una taza intentando no caerse del temblor. Vaya locura de película que sacaron, creo que intencional que sea tan mala nomás para contrarrestar el panorama de éxitos que están habiendo en taquilla actualmente, no sé. xD
