Did you think it could be you?
Today I'm feeling romantic. Although many may not believe it, deep down I'm a romantic who loves movies with forbidden or impossible romances. Love in fiction is so beautiful, I think it's because we extrapolate our desires from how we imagine love should be. Real life is very different, at least in my experience. Some of you may disagree and say that you have experienced fairy-tale love stories, and that is the image you have created of love. No matter how beautiful your true love relationships have been, nothing is like a movie, because that is fiction, and that uncontrollable, overwhelming love always has an expiration date. What remains after the passion, intensity, and desire to have sex all the time is love, but of a different kind, only now you're screwed, married, with a bunch of kids, fat, old, and afraid to start over.
All of You is one of those stories that move us and make us suffer. As I've said every time I write about a romantic story, I need them to be painful stories, because love and pain are linked. The more you love, the more you suffer. That happens with any kind of love. The film tells a love story in which the protagonists' decisions will be the main obstacles. People can end up with someone they don't love completely, but having an established life, a family, and ties prevents them from breaking away from all that, condemning them to live a life of lies, infidelity, and the sadness of not having made the right decision.
Filmmaker William Bridges releases his first film as a director. I looked up his career online because I didn't know who he was and discovered that he was a screenwriter for episodes of Black Mirror. This approach to science fiction themes is also evident in this film, albeit in a very subtle way. In the film, people can take a scientific test to find their soul mate. That's what Laura's character does: she takes the test because she wants to find the man of her life to marry. Her best friend from college thinks differently: he prefers to flirt the old-fashioned way, which is where the interesting part of falling in love lies.

El amor en la ficción es tan hermoso, creo que es porque extrapolamos nuestros deseos de cómo imaginamos que debería ser el amor. La vida real es muy diferente, al menos en mi experiencia. Algunos de ustedes pueden no estar de acuerdo y decir que han vivido historias de amor de cuento de hadas, y esa es la imagen que han creado del amor. Por muy bonitas que hayan sido sus relaciones amorosas, nada es como en las películas, porque eso es ficción. Lo que queda después de la pasión, la intensidad y el deseo de tener sexo todo el tiempo es amor, pero de otro tipo, solo que ahora estás jodido, casado, con un montón de hijos, gordo, viejo y con miedo a empezar de nuevo.
All of You es una de esas historias que nos conmueven y nos hacen sufrir. Como digo cada vez que escribo sobre una historia romántica, necesito que sean historias dolorosas, porque el amor y el dolor están vinculados. Cuanto más amas, más sufres. Eso ocurre con cualquier tipo de amor. La película cuenta una historia de amor en la que las decisiones de los protagonistas serán los principales obstáculos. Las personas pueden acabar con alguien a quien no aman por completo, pero tener una vida establecida, una familia y vínculos les impide romper con todo eso, condenándoles a vivir una vida de mentiras, infidelidad y la tristeza de no haber tomado la decisión correcta.

Laura is played by Imogen Poots. A beautiful actress. Both protagonists are attractive. That's how cinema and television are, there are no ugly people, just men and women who make us want to be as attractive as they are. That's why I repeat, love in our real life is not like in the movies. The actress gives a convincing performance. How can you not fall in love with her? Even her imperfections are beautiful. It makes me angry that her character is an idiot. How can she not realize that her friend is in love with her?
Brett Goldstein plays Simon. He is Laura's best friend, but he is actually crazy about her. He is truly in love with this woman. It's pretty obvious that he has been putting up with her since they were friends. He even pays for the test so she can find the love of her life. That's right, men even prostitute themselves for these things when they are blinded by love. This actor is best known for his comedic roles, but here he excels in a more romantic performance, and there is quite a bit of chemistry between the two actors.
The story follows the lives of these characters over several years, so we understand what each one is feeling. This will make us feel their joy and also suffer with them, with the pain of not being able to be happy, love each other freely, and be together for the rest of their lives. Those reunions they will have, that passion between the sheets. Love at its finest, the film applies a formula that works. I loved it, and that's why I recommend it. I don't watch just any romantic story, and this one may not be completely original or particularly innovative, but it made me feel (love and pain) when I saw it.

Laura es interpretada por Imogen Poots. Una actriz preciosa. Ambos protagonistas son atractivos. Así son el cine y la televisión, no hay gente fea, solo hombres y mujeres que nos hacen desear ser tan atractivos como ellos. Por eso repito, el amor en nuestra vida real no es como en las películas. La actriz ofrece una interpretación convincente. ¿Cómo no enamorarse de ella? Incluso sus imperfecciones son hermosas. Me enfada que su personaje sea una idiota. ¿Cómo no se da cuenta de que su amigo está enamorado de ella?
Brett Goldstein interpreta a Simon. Es el mejor amigo de Laura, pero en realidad está loco por ella. Está verdaderamente enamorado de esta mujer. Es bastante obvio que la ha estado aguantando desde que eran amigos. Incluso paga la prueba para que ella pueda encontrar el amor de su vida. Esos reencuentros que tendrán, esa pasión entre las sábanas. El amor en su máxima expresión, la película aplica una fórmula que funciona. Me encantó, y por eso la recomiendo. No veo cualquier historia romántica, y puede que esta no sea completamente original ni especialmente innovadora, pero me hizo sentir (amor y dolor) cuando la vi.
