I was disappointed by Yorgos Lanthimos' last two films. I didn't like Poor Creatures at all, and Kinds of Kindness didn't impress me. That's why I had put off watching Bugonia, which stars Emma Stone again and also features Jesse Plemons. I think I was reluctant to be disappointed again by a director whose early films I found brilliant.

This time, I felt something of the Lanthimos that captivated me in the past. Although this film is a remake, the original is Korean and I've never seen it, but when I looked it up, I saw that it was quite a successful film and I think this one has been well received because the original material was already good. If any of you have seen the original Asian film, I'd like to hear your opinion or comparison with this remake.

There is quite a bit of satire in this story, which I like, and it doesn't shy away from showing some pretty gory scenes that are also loaded with uncomfortable humor. It's true that it seeks to make a visual impact, but I found it more justified and appropriate than in his two previous films. That's my perception, besides the fact that the cast is great, but especially Plemons.

Jesse Plemons is the star of the show, playing Teddy. A completely deranged being. Just by looking at him, we can see that he is very disturbed. Something has happened in his past and with his mother that has driven him completely mad. He works packing products at Auxolith, a large pharmaceutical company, and also spends time beekeeping with his cousin Don, another young man who is not normal. These two are like a version of Dumb and Dumber, but in a horror version.

This pair of idiots believe that the president of the pharmaceutical company is an alien from Andromeda who has come to destroy the planet, and that they will be the saviors. So they kidnap Michelle to force her to confess and arrange a meeting with the emperor of Andromeda. They have it all planned out, and that's where the story gets even more deranged.

I loved seeing Emma Stone with her head shaved and covered in body cream. The kidnapping and crazy interrogations make us hate Teddy and his cousin. There's a lot of torture and physical violence, which increases the tension at certain moments. While the police search for the missing businesswoman, they hope to force her to take them to their mothership on the day of the next eclipse. Absorbed in what they believe to be reality, they are two first-class morons.

There is a clear satire of the conspiracy theories that are currently spreading around the world via the Internet. Let's remember that there are still people who say that the Earth is flat, so why not believe that there are crazy people like the ones in this movie who believe that aliens are about to destroy the world? Although, come to think of it, what if the crazy people aren't so crazy? What if some of it could be real? What do you think about that? I don't know, better watch the movie and wait for the ending.

I enjoyed watching it. It also takes aim at the pharmaceutical industry with its experimental treatments and drugs, and although I found it a bit long, I had a good time.

Las dos últimas películas de Yorgos Lanthimos me decepcionaron. No me gustó nada Poor Creatures, y Kinds of Kindness no me impresionó. Por eso había pospuesto ver Bugonia, que vuelve a estar protagonizada por Emma Stone y en la que también participa Jesse Plemons. Creo que me resistía a volver a sentirme decepcionado por un director cuyas primeras películas me parecieron brillantes.

Esta vez, sentí algo de ese Lanthimos que me cautivó en el pasado. Aunque esta película es un remake, la original es coreana y nunca la he visto, pero cuando busqué informacion, vi que fue una película bastante exitosa y creo que esta ha tenido buena acogida porque el material original ya era bueno. Si alguno de ustedes ha visto la película asiática original, me gustaría saber su opinión o comparación con este remake.

Hay bastante sátira en esta historia, algo que me gusta, y no rehúye mostrar algunas escenas bastante sangrientas que también están cargadas de humor incómodo. Es cierto que busca causar un impacto visual, pero me pareció más justificado y apropiado que en sus dos películas anteriores. Esa es mi percepción, además del hecho de que el elenco es genial, pero especialmente Plemons.

Jesse Plemons es la estrella del espectáculo, interpretando a Teddy. Un ser completamente trastornado. Solo con su mirada nos muestra que está muy perturbado. Algo ha sucedido en su pasado y con su madre que lo ha vuelto completamente loco. Trabaja empaquetando productos en Auxolith, una gran empresa farmacéutica, y también dedica tiempo a la apicultura con su primo Don, otro joven que no es normal. Estos dos son como una versión de Dumb and Dumber, pero en versión de terror.

Este par de idiotas creen que la presidente de la empresa farmacéutica es un extraterrestre de Andrómeda que ha venido a destruir el planeta, y que ellos serán los salvadores. Así que secuestran a Michelle para obligarla a confesar y concertar una reunión con el emperador de Andrómeda. Lo tienen todo planeado, y ahí es donde la historia se vuelve mas desquiciada.

Me encantó ver a Emma Stone con la cabeza rapada y cubierta de crema corporal. El secuestro y los interrogatorios descabellados nos hacen detestar a Teddy y a su primo. Habrá mucha tortura y violencia física, lo que aumentará la tensión en ciertos momentos. Mientras la policía busca a la empresaria desaparecida, ellos esperan obligarla a llevarlos a su nave nodriza el día del próximo eclipse. Absortos en lo que creen que es la realidad, son dos subnormales de primera.

Hay una clara sátira de las teorías conspirativas que actualmente se están difundiendo por todo el mundo a través de Internet. Recordemos que todavía hay gente que dice que la Tierra es plana, así que ¿por qué no creer que hay locos como los de esta película que creen que hay extraterrestres a punto de destruir el mundo? Aunque pensándolo bien, ¿y si los locos no están tan locos? ¿Y si algo de eso pudiera ser real? ¿Qué opinas al respecto? No lo sé, mejor ve la película y espera al final.

Disfruté viéndola. También apunta a la industria farmacéutica con sus tratamientos y medicamentos experimentales, y aunque me pareció un poco larga, la pasé bien.
