Love in Cold War Times
I continue to be put off by recently released movies. Movie I watch, movie I forget all at once. I don't know what the hell is going on, but I have a hard time finding something that motivates me to talk or write about their story. An awful lot of crap that comes out, some I don't even finish watching.
So I resort to re-watching movies I loved, from a few years ago, some are not that old, but they captivated me. Cold War I saw quite a while ago. I had to check my blog to make sure I hadn't written about it. I distinctly remembered that I had posted about IDA, another Paweł Pawlikowski film, but I wasn't sure if I had ever posted about Cold War. Anyway, I highly recommend this film, another gem from this Polish filmmaker.
As the English title of the film says, it is set during the cold war. The events narrated take place at the end of the forties and during the whole decade of the fifties. When Europe was divided among the victors, taking the worst part those who remained under the yoke of communism, that ideology that is the worst plague that exists. Neither the black plague, nor covid. The worst pandemic that humanity has suffered is the shit of leftism.
The director returns to tell us a chronicle of that Eastern Europe in a period in which they had to heal the wounds left by the war and suffer the onslaught of ideologies and policies that continued to make the majority suffer. Especially in Poland, where the former Soviet Union took control.
Me siguen desanimando las películas estrenadas recientemente. Película que veo, película que olvido de una vez. No sé qué demonios pasa, pero me cuesta encontrar algo que me motive a hablar o escribir sobre su historia. Una cantidad ingente de mierda que sale, algunas ni las termino de ver.
Por eso recurro a volver a ver películas que me han encantado, de hace unos años, algunas no son tan antiguas, pero me han cautivado. Cold War la vi hace bastante tiempo. Tuve que revisar mi blog para asegurarme de que no había escrito sobre ella. Recordaba perfectamente que había posteado sobre IDA, otra película de Paweł Pawlikowski, pero no estaba seguro de si alguna vez había posteado sobre Cold War. En fin, recomiendo esta película, otra joya de este cineasta polaco.
Como dice el título en inglés de la película, está ambientada durante la guerra fría. Los acontecimientos que se nos narran tienen lugar a finales de los años cuarenta y durante toda la década de los cincuenta. Cuando Europa se repartió entre los vencedores, llevándose la peor parte los que permanecieron bajo el yugo del comunismo, esa ideología que es la peor plaga que existe. Ni la peste negra, ni el covid. La peor pandemia que ha sufrido la humanidad es la mierda del izquierdismo.
El director vuelve a contarnos una crónica de aquella Europa del Este en un periodo en el que tuvieron que cicatrizar las heridas dejadas por la guerra y sufrir los embates de ideologías y políticas que seguían haciendo sufrir a la mayoría. Especialmente en Polonia, donde la extinta Unión Soviética tomó el control.

There is passion, but also disillusionment. It is a film that hits us emotionally. For how unfair life can be, for the bad decisions its characters can make, and for a love that seems doomed from the beginning.
As in Ida, the filmmaker opts for black and white. He uses the same technique as in his other film, a beautiful black and white, which is a pleasure to watch. This may not please many. Unfortunately, the beauty of black and white does not seem to appeal to younger viewers, and even some not so young. The black and white in this film seems to me to bring more strength and toughness, plus the actress's eyes are beautiful.
Joanna Kulig plays Zula and Tomasz Kot plays Wiktor, and both are fabulous. Their commitment to the story is fantastic. Elal is fascinating, he is captivating. Excellent acting work. In addition, the music is also provided by the protagonists, from the Polish folk songs to the jazz melody used in one of the songs on the soundtrack. In short, authentic cinema.
If you want to see a movie that moves you and is a work of art, this is the one to look for. I don't know what platform it's on, look for it. I read them in the comments.
La historia de amor entre Zula, una joven eslava del centro de Polonia, maltratada desde niña por su padre, lo que la lleva a delinquir, y Wiktor, director de la orquesta, profesor del grupo de canto y baile folclóricos donde encuentra refugio y sigue adelante con su vida.
Me fascinan las historias de amor que se hacen añicos. Me fascinan las historias de amor que me hacen sufrir y les aseguro que este romance los dejará destrozados. Es un amor hermoso, pero tóxico. Hay pasión, pero también desilusión. Es una película que nos golpea emocionalmente. Por lo injusta que puede ser la vida, por las malas decisiones que pueden tomar sus personajes y por un amor que parece condenado desde el principio.
Como en Ida, el cineasta opta por el blanco y negro. Utiliza la misma técnica que en su otra película, un hermoso blanco y negro, que es un placer ver. Esto puede no gustar a muchos. Por desgracia, la belleza del blanco y negro no parece gustar a los espectadores más jóvenes, e incluso a algunos no tan jóvenes. El blanco y negro de esta película me parece que aporta más fuerza y dureza, además de que los ojos de la actriz son preciosos.
Joanna Kulig interpreta a Zula y Tomasz Kot a Wiktor, y ambos están fabulosos. Su compromiso con la historia es fantástico. Elal es fascinante, es cautivador. Excelente trabajo actoral. Además, la música también corre a cargo de los protagonistas, desde las canciones folclóricas polacas hasta la melodía de jazz utilizada en una de las canciones de la banda sonora. En definitiva, auténtico cine.
Si quieres ver una película que te emocione y sea una obra de arte, ésta es la que debes buscar. No sé en qué plataforma está, búscala. Los leo en los comentarios.

Antes no me interesaba por las películas europeas... sólo miraba lo que era comercial, lo que llegaba a Argentina, y ahora mi visión ha cambiado y también el tipo de películas que me interesan. El estilo blanco y negro es especial, genera sensaciones en el espectador y parece ser una película romántica, intensa y fuerte para el corazón. Debe ser hermosa y va con el estado de ánimo muchas veces que uno tenga.

I think I want to watch this Cold War, sound like deep movie. I like story when love is strong but sad. For me it look more serious. I will try to find this movie.
