[Movie] Disclosure Day

Spielberg fans are going to hate me for this, but the last film of his that truly lived up to my expectations was Bridge of Spies. After that, I haven't been satisfied, although I did like West Side Story. I didn't like The Fabulous. When they announced Disclosure Day, I thought maybe this one would excite me again, but it was a total flop.

Ah, Spielberg is a legend. A wonderful filmmaker who has created countless immortal works, films that will forever be part of cinematic history. He's a filmmaker who has nothing left to prove, because he's already done it all, and done it very well. I don't doubt it, it's just that his latest films have left me wanting more, they didn't meet my expectations, and this latest one is a complete disappointment.

Well, I remember being very disappointed with A.I. Artificial Intelligence, especially the last half hour. But then there were films like Munich that captivated me. The problem with The Day of Revelation is that, if you take away a couple of action and chase sequences, what you're left with is a load of garbage.

Those few sequences, which include some adventure, jumps over dangerous obstacles, chases, shootouts, trains, etc., are the parts I could salvage from the extensive footage. But there are others that just don't look good anymore, especially today. There are scenes that struck me as completely ridiculous. Times change, and so do audiences. What worked 20 years ago might not work today, but as much as I enjoy watching movies with a more classic style, like the ones from back in the day, here it seems like little effort was made to give the story coherence.

The agents of the story's evil corporation, which is even above the government, with the most advanced technology and special agents who should be the best, are actually a group of extras playing the role of idiots. Completely useless people who spend the entire movie chasing the protagonists from one place to another.

When I saw the animals in the trailer, I already felt a bit creeped out. I didn't like the CGI, and the whole story—what our heroes have to do to complete the mission—could have been established from the beginning, without so much dragging. But of course, they had to fill the script with all those chases and create pretty images that try to shock the viewer and thus give depth where there is none.

I kept watching the movie to see what nonsense they would come up with at the end, and I wasn't wrong. That final sequence made me laugh and even feel repulsed. But that's because Spielberg thinks that modern viewers will have that sentimentality from his films of other decades. The ending was the worst part for me. You have to see it to realize that the whole movie has been nonsense. Watch it without the eyes of an exaggerated Spielberg fan. As I said at the beginning, he is one of the best filmmakers of all time, but that doesn't mean he can't do things like this.

Perhaps I'm wrong, and for you it might be the science fiction masterpiece that will mark a before and after in the history of cinema (You know that's not the case, okay?!). But that's why I hope you watch it and give me your opinion in the comments.

Los fans de Spielberg me van a odiar por esto, pero la última película suya que realmente cumplió mis expectativas fue El puente de los espías. Después de eso, no he quedado satisfecho, aunque me gustó West Side Story. No me gustó Los fabulosos. Cuando anunciaron Disclosure Day, pensé que tal vez esta me emocionaría de nuevo, pero fue un fiasco total.

Ah, Spielberg es una leyenda. Un cineasta maravilloso que ha creado multitud de obras inmortales, películas que formarán parte para siempre de la historia del cine. Es un cineasta que ya no tiene nada que demostrar, porque ya lo ha hecho todo, y lo ha hecho muy bien. No lo dudo, es solo que sus últimas películas me han dejado con ganas de más, no cumplieron mis expectativas, y esta última es una completa decepción.

Bueno, recuerdo haber quedado muy decepcionado con Inteligencia artificial, especialmente con la última media hora. Pero después, hubo películas como Munich que me fascinaron. El problema con El Día de la Revelación es que, si le quitamos un par de secuencias de acción y persecución, lo que nos queda es un montón de basura.

Esas pocas secuencias, que incluyen algo de aventura, saltos sobre obstáculos peligrosos, persecuciones, tiroteos, trenes, etc., son las partes que pude rescatar del extenso metraje. Pero hay otras que ya no se ven bien, especialmente hoy en día. Hay escenas que me parecieron completamente ridículas. Los tiempos cambian, y el público también. Lo que funcionaba hace 20 años puede que no funcione hoy, pero por mucho que disfrute viendo películas con un estilo más clásico, como las de antes, aquí parece que se ha hecho poco esfuerzo por darle coherencia a la historia.

Los agentes de la malvada corporación de la historia, que está incluso por encima del gobierno, con la tecnología más avanzada y agentes especiales que deberían ser los mejores, en realidad son un grupo de extras que hacen el papel de idiotas. Gente completamente inútil que se pasa toda la película persiguiendo a los protagonistas de un lado a otro.

Cuando vi los animales en el tráiler, ya me dio un poco de repelús. No me gustó el CGI, y toda la historia, lo que nuestros héroes tienen que hacer para completar la misión, podría haberse planteado desde el principio, sin tanta lentitud. Pero claro, tenían que llenar el guion con todas esas persecuciones y crear imágenes bonitas que intentan impactar al espectador y así dar profundidad donde no la hay.

Seguí viendo la película para ver qué disparate se les ocurriría al final, y no me equivoqué. Esa secuencia final me hizo reír y hasta sentir repelús. Pero es porque Spielberg cree que el espectador moderno tendrá ese sentimentalismo de sus películas de otras décadas. El final fue lo peor para mí. Hay que verlo para darse cuenta de que toda la película ha sido un sinsentido. Mírenla sin la mirada de un fanático exagerado de Spielberg. Como dije al principio, es uno de los mejores cineastas de todos los tiempos, pero eso no significa que no pueda hacer cosas como esta.

Quizás me equivoque, y para ti sea la obra maestra de la ciencia ficción que marcará un antes y un después en la historia del cine (¡Sabes que no es así, ¿vale?!). Pero por eso espero que la veas y me des tu opinión en los comentarios.
