[Movie] Luger

One of the best Spanish films of last year, which I finally found available in my area after a long wait, and I enjoyed it very much. This film participated in the Sitges Film Festival last year and was extremely well received; Both the public and critics were delighted. It's a shame it wasn't considered for any major awards. Perhaps because it is more of an independent film and does not meet the progressive standards that the Spanish film industry demands to be taken seriously.

A police thriller with touches of black humor, lots of action and blood. Luger is pure entertainment, but very well done. Nothing is superfluous. From the first scene, even before the titles and opening credits appear, you can sense that the action is not going to stop. That was a good sign for me; It hooked me instantly and met my expectations. Lately, a lot of movies bore me; I've seen a lot that I don't even feel like recommending. But with this one, it's quite the opposite. It is a film that deserves to be shared because it is really good and never boring.

The director is Bruno Martin. I have seen his work as an actor in other productions, and I think this is the first time I have seen one of his works as a director, and I was certainly satisfied. It is evident that it is inspired by American thrillers, but, of course, with its own Iberian touch. There is a lot of cruelty throughout the film, and I like that it doesn't have any moralizing messages. Here there is violence, action, beatings, deaths, and even the female characters are not spared from receiving beatings.

Rafa and Tony, the protagonists, are dedicated to beating people and collecting debts, jobs that require toughness. Most of these jobs are done for a lawyer, who sends them to recover a vehicle stolen from one of her clients. The recovery of this car, and what they find in the trunk, will trigger a series of increasingly intense events.

A Luger P08 from the Nazi era will be the coveted object for which blood will flow, and our characters will have to manage to survive the madness that is unleashed. What's so special about this Luger? That is something that the protagonists will discover, and in a very unpleasant way.

One of the things I liked about the film is that it is set in an industrial estate on the outskirts of Madrid, where the characters wander, encountering the dark side of those places. Here you will find petty criminals, shady businesses, a criminal underworld far removed from luxury. There is a lot of anger and unpleasant characters.

It is not a film that addresses deep themes or tries to teach lessons, but it is more entertaining than all the great films nominated for the Goya Awards. This one keeps you in suspense, it flies by, and when the end approaches, you don't want it to end.

One of the best Spanish films of last year, very little known. I recommend it. Look for it on the streaming platforms in your country to see where it is available so you can enjoy it.

Una de las mejores películas españolas del año pasado, que por fin encontré disponible en mi zona tras una larga espera, y la disfruté muchísimo. Esta película participó en el Festival de Cine de Sitges el año pasado y tuvo una excelente acogida; tanto el público como la crítica quedaron encantados. Es una pena que no fuera considerada para ningún premio importante. Quizás porque es más bien una película independiente y no cumple con los estándares progresistas que exige la industria cinematográfica española para ser tomada en serio.

Un thriller policíaco con toques de humor negro, mucha acción y sangre. Luger es puro entretenimiento, pero muy bien realizado. Nada es superfluo. Desde la primera escena, incluso antes de que aparezcan los títulos y los créditos iniciales, se percibe que la acción no va a parar. Eso fue una buena señal para mí; me enganchó al instante y cumplió con mis expectativas. Últimamente, muchas películas me aburren; he visto un montón que ni siquiera me apetece recomendar. Pero con esta, es todo lo contrario. Es una película que merece ser compartida porque es realmente buena y nunca aburre.

El director es Bruno Martin. He visto su trabajo como actor en otras producciones, y creo que esta es la primera vez que veo una de sus obras como director, y sin duda quedé satisfecho. Es evidente que se inspira en los thrillers estadounidenses, pero, por supuesto, con su propio toque ibérico. Hay mucha crueldad a lo largo de la película, y me gusta que no tenga ningún mensaje moralizante. Aquí hay violencia, acción, golpes, muertes, e incluso los personajes femeninos no se libran de recibir palizas.

Rafa y Tony, los protagonistas, se dedican a golpear gente y cobrar deudas, trabajos que requieren dureza. La mayoría de estos trabajos los realizan para una abogada, que los envía a recuperar un vehículo robado a uno de sus clientes. La recuperación de este coche, y lo que encuentran en el maletero, desencadenará una serie de acontecimientos cada vez más intensos.

Una Luger P08 de la época nazi será el objeto codiciado por el que correrá sangre, y nuestros personajes tendrán que ingeniárselas para sobrevivir a la locura que se desata. ¿Qué tiene de especial esta Luger? Eso es algo que los protagonistas descubrirán, y de una forma muy desagradable.

Una de las cosas que me gustó de la película es que está ambientada en un polígono industrial en las afueras de Madrid, donde los personajes deambulan, encontrándose con el lado oscuro de esos lugares. Aquí encontrarás pequeños delincuentes, negocios turbios, un submundo criminal muy alejado del lujo. Hay mucha furia y personajes desagradables.

No es una película que aborde temas profundos ni que intente dar lecciones, pero es más entretenida que todas las grandes películas nominadas a los Premios Goya. Esta te mantiene en vilo, se pasa volando, y cuando se acerca el final, no quieres que acabe.

Una de las mejores películas españolas del año pasado, muy poco conocida. La recomiendo. Búscala en las plataformas de streaming de tu país para ver dónde está disponible y así poder disfrutarla.
