Monster: The Ed Gein Story | Mini Serie Review
Only a mother could love you
Ryan Murphy returns with the third season of his anthology series about American serial killers, and this time it's the turn of a figure who had a huge impact in his day. Murphy is also back with his colleague Ian Brennan. In many previous posts, I have discussed Murphy's work, which always elicits mixed opinions from me due to its excessive narration. This series is no exception to those excesses, which sometimes work and sometimes don't. For example, the series Ratched is my least favorite of all the ones he has created.
With the series about Ed Gein, I knew I had to mentally prepare myself for the fact that it was Ryan Murphy's and be ready for his delusions. The trailer made a very good impression on me, although there is one scene in it that would have had a greater impact if it hadn't been shown. Something I did notice in the trailer is that they would play a lot with Gein's mental state and the things he imagined in his mind. I also think that was the way they came up with to make it more entertaining for the audience. Of course, they make up a lot of things in the series; it's not a faithful representation of the notes, chronicles, and archives about Gein, but I let it slide because they used the device of many of those things happening in Gein's mind.
I liked both Dhamer and the Melendez brothers' season. When I saw that Gein was the new story, I hoped they would tell the creepiest parts, and they didn't disappoint. I applaud them for having the courage to show many disturbing and disgusting parts, well, disgusting and repulsive to most of the audience, but in my case, those are the scenes I like to see. The scenes that shock others but satisfy me are like an elixir for my mind. No, I'm not a psychopath, I just know that what I'm watching is fiction, and I enjoy seeing the artistic way in which the darkest parts of our minds can be filmed.
There are eight episodes that make up this story, and I was afraid they would drag it out too long. To fill the minutes, at least they had several ideas that worked perfectly. One of them was to include the Gein case, which had such an impact that it became part of popular culture and was a source of inspiration for literary and cinematic stories. The book on which the film Psycho was based, the character of Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the killer from The Silence of the Lambs, and even, in the final part, there is a meta-reference to the series Mindhunter. These are the best known and the ones that appear in the series, although there are other films inspired by Gein, but they are less well known and were not referenced here.

Murphy también vuelve a ello con su colega Ian Brennan. En muchas entradas anteriores, he hablado del trabajo de Murphy, que siempre me genera opiniones encontradas debido a su excesiva narración. Esta serie no es una excepción a esos excesos, que a veces funcionan y otras no. Por ejemplo, la serie Ratched es la que menos me gusta de todas las que ha creado.
Con la serie sobre Ed Gein, sabía que tenía que prepararme mentalmente para el hecho de que era de Ryan Murphy y tenía que estar listo para sus delirios. El tráiler me causó muy buena impresión, aunque hay una escena en él que habría tenido un mayor impacto si no se hubiera mostrado. Algo que sí noté en el tráiler es que jugarían mucho con el estado mental de Gein y las cosas que imaginaba en su mente. También creo que esa fue la forma que se les ocurrió para que fuera más entretenido para el público. Por supuesto, inventan muchas cosas en la serie; no es una representación fiel de las notas, crónicas y archivos sobre Gein, pero lo dejé pasar porque utilizaron el recurso de que muchas de esas cosas sucedieran en la mente de Gein.
Me gustaron tanto Dhamer como la temporada de los hermanos Melendez. Cuando vi que Gein era la nueva historia, esperaba que contaran las partes más espeluznantes, y no me decepcionaron. Hay que aplaudir que tuvieran el valor de mostrar muchas partes perturbadoras y repugnantes, bueno, repugnantes y repulsivas para la mayoría del público, pero en mi caso, esas son las escenas que me gusta ver. Las escenas que impactan a otros pero que a mí me satisfacen son como un elixir para mi mente. No, no soy un psicópata, solo sé que lo que estoy viendo es ficción y disfruto viendo la forma artística en que se pueden filmar las partes más oscuras de nuestra mente.
Hay ocho episodios que componen esta historia, y me ttenia miedo que la alargarán demasiado. Para llenar los minutos, al menos tuvieron varias ideas que funcionaron a la perfección. Una de ellas fue incluir como caso Gein, que tuvo tal impacto que pasó a formar parte de la cultura popular y fue fuente de inspiración para historias literarias y cinematográficas. El libro en el que se basó la película Psicosis, el personaje de Leatherface de La matanza de Texas, el asesino de El silencio de los corderos e incluso, en la parte final, hay una metareferencia a la serie Mindhunter. Estas son las más conocidas y las que aparecen en la serie, aunque hay otras películas inspiradas en Gein, pero son menos conocidas y aqui no fueron referenciadas.
For me, everything worked well on screen. Although seeing Gein with a chainsaw, when there is no official record of this, made me laugh, but it's something that adds dynamism and appeals to the audience. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorite horror scenes, it's a masterpiece, so I really liked those scenes in parallel with Gein's story. The same goes for The Silence of the Lambs, although very little of it is shown here. It's another gem of the genre and one of my favorites. Obviously, Psycho too. I remember when I saw it for the first time, the bathtub scene with the haunting music had quite an impact on me.
The woke part couldn't be left out, and that really bothered me. It's the scene where the transgender character talks to Gein on the radio. The transsexual tells him that they are not alike at all, because transsexuals don't hurt anyone, on the contrary, they have always been oppressed, etc. Don't fuck with me with that shitty message! Pure transsexual propaganda. They paint themselves as good, when in reality there is a lot of violence within that community. I laughed at that scene, what a load of crap, but I understand that the creators are from the LGBTQ community and don't want their community to look bad, even though what they themselves have portrayed are murderers who are basically gay.
Now, I have to praise Charlie Hunnam's performance. Phänomenal! It's a role that will surely earn him a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination next year. This actor is excellent, although he's too handsome to be Ed Gein. He manages to make us believe in the character, he changed his voice, and I loved his performance. I found the scene in the first episode where he appears naked in front of his mother funny. The real Ed Gein would surely have wanted to have Charlie Hunnam's body, but girls and gay fans will love that scene. By the way, I understand the message that Murphy and his partner want to convey about how society glorifies these types of murderers because society is morbid and likes that, but in order to convey the message, they also end up glorifying the story of these evil beings.
I recommend this story. Despite its excesses, I really liked it and have already added it to my favorites of the year. Of course, I also suggest that if you want to know the truth about Ed Gein, you look for a documentary or material on the Internet on websites specializing in that niche, where you will find his real story.

Para mí, todo funcionó bien en la pantalla. Aunque ver a Gein con una motosierra, cuando no hay constancia oficial de ello, me hizo reír, pero es algo que le da dinamismo y agrada al público. La matanza de Texas es una de mis escenas de terror favoritas, es una obra maestra, así que me gustaron mucho esas escenas en paralelo con la historia de Gein. Lo mismo ocurre con El silencio de los corderos, aunque aquí se muestra muy poco, es otra joya del género y una de mis favoritas. Obviamente, Psicosis también. Recuerdo que cuando la vi por primera vez, la escena de la bañera con la música penetrante me impacto bastante.
No podía faltar la parte woke, y eso me molestó mucho. Es la escena en la que el personaje transgénero habla con Gein por la radio. El transexual le dice que no se parecen en nada, porque los transexuales no hacen daño a nadie, al contrario, siempre han sido oprimidos, etc. ¡No me jodas con ese mensaje de mierda! Pura propaganda transexual. Se pintan a sí mismos como buenos, cuando en realidad hay mucha violencia dentro de esa comunidad. Me reí de esa escena, qué mierda, pero entiendo que los creadores son de la comunidad LGBTQ y no quieren que su comunidad quede mal, aunque lo que ellos mismos han retratado son asesinos que son básicamente gays.
Ahora, tengo que elogiar la actuación de Charlie Hunnam. ¡Fenomenal! Es el papel que seguramente le valdrá una nominación a los Globos de Oro y a los Emmy el año que viene. Este actor es excelente, aunque es demasiado guapo para ser Ed Gein. Consigue hacernos creer en el personaje, cambió su voz y me encantó su actuación. Me pareció divertida la escena del primer episodio en la que aparece desnudo delante de su madre. El verdadero Ed Gein seguro hubiese deseado tener el cuerpo de Charlie Hunnam, pero a las chicas y a los fans gays les encantará esa escena. Por cierto, entiendo el mensaje que Murphy y su socio quieren transmitir sobre cómo la sociedad glorifica a este tipo de asesinos porque la sociedad es morbosa y le gusta eso, pero para transmitir el mensaje, también terminan glorificando la historia de estos seres malvados.
Recomiendo esta historia. A pesar de sus excesos, me ha gustado mucho y ya la he añadido a mis favoritas del año. Por supuesto, también sugiero que si quieres saber la verdad sobre Ed Gein, busques un documental o material en Internet en sitios web especializados en ese nicho, donde encontrarás su historia real.

Recuerdo que Dhamer comencé a verla y no pude continuar, es muy fuerte. Ahora Mindhunter me fascinó, lástima que dejaron la serie a medias pero me encantaba. Esta también parece fuerte y con mucho que pensar en que pasa dentro de esa mente loca y escalofriante. Pero parece que el actor hace muy buen trabajo, me intriga la serie y ya la vi en la plataforma como recomendada.... tal vez le de una oportunidad si no me mata del susto!!!

Esta es bastante fuerte para muchos que la han visto. Quizás pro las escenas de necrofilia, aunque para mi no son tan fuertes.
El actor esa genial. Nominado seguro a algún premio. Me gusto la historia. ya comenzaron a rodar la próxima temporada la cual será sobre la asesina Lizzie Borden.

Salvando las distancias me hizo recordar a la película La casa de cera... no se porque. Busque la historia de Lizzie Borden, mato a su padre y madrastra aunque no pago por ese crimen. Interesante la gente que ha habido en la historia. Que mentes!

Justo anoche estaba viendo un documental de anatomia y Netflix me lanzo la portada de este buen muchachon 😅😅, tenia dudas de ver porque he visto muchos contenidos de crimenes policiacos en youtube ultimamente y quede saturado pero veo que esta potente la historia de este amiguito, me animare a agregarla en lista para verla en familia jajaja 😂😂
En mi caso no me quiero preparar mentalmente porque estoy haciendo memoria y no me suena el nombre para el topico de esta temporada, entonces Ed Gein Story pues tengo cero expectativas y asi es mejor porque cuando lo vea se nota me impactara, una lastima ayer no le di click, me fuese llevado una muy grata sorpresa al ver la historia de este muchachon
jajjaa demasiado guapo para ser Ed Gein, pues pienso que hay que vender esa carne a las mujeres y vaya que hay mujeres que les gustan peligrosos y asesino serial 😂😂, entonces pienso es un plus positivo colocar un actor guapeton para ellas, para esa audiencia femenina que le gustan los chicos malos, de verdad no se que pasa en el cerebro de esas mujeres que quedan encantadas con tipos como Charles Manson y enviandole cartas etc a la carcel 😐😐.... le dire tambien a gatita Ivana para que se anime a ver 😃😃
También te recomiendo después de ver la serie, buscar documentales sobre el caso real. Muchas historias se basaron o tomaron algo de este caso , las mas famosas son referenciadas en la serie y me gusto eso.

Si, este Eddie de la serie es muy guapo y tiene tremendo físico, nada que ver con el original, pero las creadores son Gays y saben que en la pantalla los guapos son los que venden.
