Watching the first three episodes of Privileges was enough to captivate me with this new HBO original series, filmed and set in France. The HBO brand is synonymous with quality, and that's why I gave this new production a chance, despite knowing absolutely nothing about it.

In this series, we delve into La Cité, one of those exclusive hotels, only for millionaires, only for extremely wealthy people with demands that would be a dream for mere mortals. This would be the ideal hotel for those who embezzle funds intended for projects to live in the lap of luxury.

The world of luxury hotels is shown to us through a character who enters this ecosystem for the first time. The character is named Adèle Charkis, a young woman about to be released on parole, but one of the requirements is finding a job, and the only place left as an option is this hotel, which has already hired prisoners who have little time left before their release.

From her perspective, we enter a world of luxury, but also one rife with intrigue and power struggles. Adèle must not only learn the rules of the place, becoming invisible, but also be prepared to serve the guests regardless of these millionaires' extravagances. She soon finds herself embroiled in an internal power struggle between the hotel owners, the manager, and other ambitious subordinates who are always looking to climb the ladder, no matter who they step on; morality is conspicuously absent. Any resemblance to what we see in Hive is not coincidental; it is simply the reality of human nature.

The first episode fulfills its purpose as a hook, with a frenetic pace and the introduction of numerous characters. This can be somewhat overwhelming, and we will feel like Adèle: dazed and disoriented in the bowels of a luxury hotel, where there is so much to do and where one must be very careful not to make mistakes, as they can be very costly, especially for her. She needs to keep this job to obtain parole.

Her experience, which led to her serving her sentence and stems from a world closely linked to crime, will be very useful to Adele as she learns and gains the trust of the hotel manager, who needs people like her to do the dirty work. Although not entirely trustworthy, he's another scoundrel who only thinks about his future and feels threatened by a possible change of ownership. We soon discover that he, too, is a self-made man who has earned everything without hesitating to do whatever it takes.

It's a very interesting series with a lot of potential, set in that luxurious hotel, with multiple characters who must constantly walk the tightrope of amorality. This is a trend in many current series: amoral characters who can even come across as unlikeable. This ambiguity is appealing to the viewer.

El primer episodio cumple su función como gancho, con un ritmo frenético y la presentación de numerosos personajes. Necesita conservar este trabajo para obtener la libertad condicional.

Su experiencia, que la llevó a cumplir su condena y proviene de un mundo estrechamente vinculado al crimen, le será muy útil a Adele mientras aprende y se gana la confianza del gerente del hotel, quien necesita gente como ella para hacer el trabajo sucio. Aunque no es muy confiable, es otro sinvergüenza que solo piensa en su futuro y se siente amenazado por un posible cambio de dueño del hotel. Pronto descubrimos que él también es un hombre que empezó de la nada y se lo ha ganado todo sin dudar en hacer lo que sea necesario.

Es una serie muy interesante con mucho potencial, ambientada en ese lujoso hotel, con múltiples personajes que deben caminar constantemente por la cuerda floja de la amoralidad. Esta es una tendencia en muchas series actuales: personajes amorales que incluso pueden resultar antipáticos. Esta ambigüedad resulta atractiva para el espectador.
