The first thing I can say about this film is: What a beautiful film! It's one of those productions that touches the sensitive chord you sometimes need. Even for me, a confirmed pessimist, these stories revitalize me and, for a brief moment, fill me with joy.

Set in a Galician village, the film deals with the rondalla, a tradition deeply rooted in some parts of Spain, although in Latin America, due to the same Spanish influence, it's known in many countries, some more than others, though it doesn't reach the same level of tradition as in Spain, at least not in my country.

That this film wasn't nominated for Best Film at the Goya Awards seems like a crime to me. It only received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. And for me, this film is superior to a couple of those that were nominated in the main categories. It seems crazy to me, but of course, there's no progressive message here, and perhaps it didn't meet the progressive requirements and quotas of Spanish cinema.

The story centers on a Galician village where, two years ago, a tragedy occurred: seven people died in a boating accident, including the captain of the village's rondalla (a traditional Spanish folk music group). Only two survived. The investigation continues as they try to locate the wreckage of the vessel.

Luis, one of the survivors and the deceased captain's best friend, decides it's time to reform the rondalla for the next competition. If they win, they can share the prize with the victims' families. Of course, this is where the conflicts begin: recovering everything—faith, hope, and the will to live. Especially since he's now dating the captain's wife, who has two daughters. The eldest, named Andrea, is initially reluctant to play with the rondalla again.

The film explores collective grief and how, by doing something the deceased would have been proud of, they can overcome that loss. Likewise, Andrea's mother has the right to rebuild her life. Although everyone is affected and sadness permeates the atmosphere, reviving the rondalla serves as a catharsis for their grief.

All of this is handled with good humor, featuring endearing characters, imperfect like everyone else, but with big hearts. It's the kind of comedy that guarantees success, and I think the film has been well-received by most people. If I liked it, and I'm completely unfamiliar with Galician culture and folk songs, I imagine Galicians must like it even more.

There are stories that, however local or indigenous they may seem, have a universal message. Tragedy, love, sacrifice: all of that is universal, and when you tell a good story with charming characters, you get products like this. Films that deserve wider distribution and to be seen by a larger audience.

Look for it; you won't regret it. It's a beautiful film.

Lo primero que puedo decir de esta película es: ¡Qué película tan hermosa! Es una de esas producciones que tocan la fibra sensible que a veces se necesita. Incluso para mí, un pesimista empedernido, estas historias me revitalizan y, por un breve instante, me llenan de alegría.

Ambientada en un pueblo gallego, la película trata sobre la rondalla, una tradición muy arraigada en algunas zonas de España, aunque en Latinoamérica, debido a la misma influencia española, es conocida en muchos países, algunos más que otros, si bien no alcanza el mismo nivel de tradición que en España, al menos no en mi país.

Que esta película no haya sido nominada a Mejor Película en los Premios Goya me parece un crimen. Solo recibió una nominación a Mejor Actor de Reparto. Y para mí, esta película es superior a un par de las que sí estuvieron en las categorías principales.
La historia se centra en un pueblo gallego donde, hace dos años, ocurrió una tragedia: siete personas murieron en un accidente náutico, entre ellas el capitán de la rondalla del pueblo (un grupo de música folclórica tradicional española). Solo dos sobrevivieron. La investigación continúa mientras intentan encontrar los restos de la embarcación.

Luis, uno de los supervivientes y mejor amigo del capitán fallecido, decide que es hora de reformar la rondalla para el próximo concurso. Si ganan, podrán compartir el premio con las familias de las víctimas. Por supuesto, aquí es donde comienzan los conflictos: recuperar todo: la fe, la esperanza y las ganas de vivir. Sobre todo porque ya sale con la esposa del capitán, que tiene dos hijas. La mayor, llamada Andrea, se muestra inicialmente reacia a volver a tocar en la rondalla.

La película explora el duelo colectivo y cómo, al hacer algo de lo que los fallecidos se sentirían orgullosos, pueden superar ese luto. De igual modo, la madre de Andrea tiene derecho a reconstruir su vida. Aunque todos se ven afectados y la tristeza impregna el ambiente, reactivar la rondalla sirve como catarsis para el dolor.

Todo esto se aborda con buen humor, con personajes entrañables, imperfectos como todos, pero de gran corazón. Es el tipo de comedia que garantiza el éxito, y creo que la película ha gustado a la mayoría. Si a mí me gustó, y desconozco por completo la cultura y las canciones folclóricas gallegas, imagino que a los gallegos les debe gustar aún más.

Hay historias que, por muy locales o indígenas que parezcan, tienen un mensaje universal. Tragedia, amor, sacrificio: todo eso es universal, y cuando se cuenta una buena historia con personajes encantadores, se obtienen productos como este. Películas que merecen una mayor distribución y ser vistas por más público.

Búscala; no te arrepentirás. Es una película preciosa.
