Lidya Tár is the character that will earn Cate Blanchett her third Oscar (the second for Best Actress in a Leading Role) and she will have it well deserved, because the whole film is her, almost three hours of a masterful performance.

I wanted to wait for the Oscar nominations to be announced before writing about the film, why? I needed to see in which categories it would be nominated by Academy members. It is indisputable that Blanchett would be nominated, besides, she will be the winner, as much as I want Ana de Armas to take the award, it is Cate Blanchett's year. Now, in the rest of the categories in which the film is nominated, I have doubts that it will win.
Its passage through Festivals and presence in other awards shows has gone well, but I have the feeling that the film has not received the attention it should from a wide sector of the audience. I dare say that, within the progressive trend in Hollywood, the film has not gone down so well.
I'm sure that if the film were starring a male character, it would be being hyped and used by feminist groups as a banner to show the world toxic masculinity (Fuck, how I hate that phrase). It would have more exposure, to emphasize the evilness of us men, would have won more awards at other ceremonies and would be the absolute favorite to win the Oscar.
I think many have not put up with the fact that the protagonist is a gay woman, who is in a position of privilege, self-centered, lying, selfish, taking advantage of her position for benefits that are not shown, but we quickly intuit what it is all about. I appreciate the filmmaker's gallantry in dealing with these topics that generate discussion, but with a female protagonist.
The filmmaker, like an orchestra conductor, controls the rhythm, the tempo, but trusting that we are intelligent spectators, who will draw our own conclusion, he leaves us the power to judge the character, according to the moral principles of each one.
De lo bueno, poco. Eso parece pensar el cineasta Todd Field, que ha tardado más de quince años en volver a digerir una película (también ha producido y escrito el guión). Recuerdo su demoledora primera película In the Bedroom, que le colocó en la cima de inmediato, y luego consolidó su talento tras las cámaras con Little Children. Pero ¡demonios! ha tardado demasiado tiempo. ¿Va a desaparecer de nuevo durante una década? Espero que no, y que se ponga pronto a hacer más películas porque tiene casi 60 años.

Estoy seguro de que si la película estuviera protagonizada por un personaje masculino, estaría siendo exaltada y utilizada por los grupos feministas como bandera para mostrar al mundo la masculinidad tóxica (Joder, cómo odio esa frase). Tendría más exposición, para enfatizar la maldad de nosotros los hombres, habría ganado más premios en otras ceremonias y sería la favorita absoluta para ganar el Oscar.
Creo que muchos no han soportado el hecho de que la protagonista sea una mujer gay, que está en una posición de privilegio, egocéntrica, mentirosa, egoísta, que se aprovecha de su posición para obtener beneficios que no se muestran, pero intuimos rápidamente de qué se trata. Agradezco la gallardía del cineasta al tratar estos temas que generan discusión, pero con una protagonista femenina.
El cineasta, como un director de orquesta, controla el ritmo, el tempo, pero confiando en que somos espectadores inteligentes, que sacaremos nuestra propia conclusión, nos deja la potestad de juzgar al personaje, según los principios morales de cada uno.

It is a reality that the cases of greater impact in real life, have been men abusing their position, that does not mean that there are no women who act in the same way. Bad actions are not only of one gender, men and women are human beings, with virtues and defects, with goodness and evil.
The opening sequence is not only the presentation of the character Lidya Tár, it serves to make very clear the prestige and position of this character within the world of classical music, who directs one of the most important philharmonic orchestras in the world. She is a respected, successful, cultured woman, with a preparation that has allowed her to be now at the top of her professional career, living inside her own bubble.
Is Lidya bad? It is not a film about good and evil differentiated in a simple way, as a film of another genre would do. Lidya is a complex character, like all of us flesh and blood beings. It is clear that she has done things she shouldn't have, she has done it consciously, we see her acting in a premeditated way, so from my point of view, I can't say she is a good person, but she is not a villain either.

Es una realidad que los casos de mayor impacto en la vida real, han sido hombres abusando de su posición, eso no quiere decir que no existan mujeres que actúen de la misma manera. Las malas acciones no son solo de un género, hombres y mujeres son seres humanos, con virtudes y defectos, con bondad y maldad.
La secuencia inicial no es sólo la presentación del personaje Lidya Tár, sirve para dejar muy claro el prestigio y la posición de este personaje dentro del mundo de la música clásica, que dirige una de las orquestas filarmónicas más importantes del mundo. Es una mujer respetada, de éxito, culta, con una preparación que le ha permitido estar ahora en la cima de su carrera profesional, viviendo dentro de su propia burbuja.
¿Es Lidya mala? No es una película sobre el bien y el mal diferenciados de forma simple, como lo haría una película de otro género. Lidya es un personaje complejo, como todos nosotros, seres de carne y hueso. Es evidente que ha hecho cosas que no debía, lo ha hecho conscientemente, la vemos actuar de forma premeditada, así que desde mi punto de vista, no puedo decir que sea una buena persona, pero tampoco es una villana.
The artist and the work. Should we separate the work from the artist? I think so, and it is something I put into practice. He may not be the best person in the world because he broke the law, although he has even been pardoned by the one who was his victim. I do not defend what he did, but I do defend his work as an artist, I will not stop watching his excellent films and list him as one of the best filmmakers .
Those who do not separate artists from their works, are really hypocrites, because they should not admire any kind of art. All arts have influences from artists of the past, who have inspired generation after generation, so we should not consume any kind of art, in the case of the film's story, it would be classical music, since they all have influences from great musicians of the past who surely did bad things, committed some kind of abuse, were racist, etc.
There is a scene in the film, developed in a magnificent sequence shot where a character does not like some masters of classical music and refuses to play their music, because they are pieces composed by cisheteros, really? and the guy wants to be one of the greats in the future? Does it have coherence? That it's Lidya's character, a gay woman, who tells it like it is, I thought was wonderful. It's one of the sequences in the film that I enjoyed the most. What Lidya tells him is the truth. Even I consume art created by people who follow a political ideology that I detest. For God's sake!
Guilt and remorse his is what brings a greater dimension to the main character. Lidya is someone who all her life has done something that benefits her, she always expects to get something from someone else. She is even indifferent when she is informed that her mother has tried to communicate with her. Lidya is inside her own glass bubble and there is only one thing that takes her out of that place and makes her step into the real world for a few moments: her daughter Petra.
On the other hand, her creative process is fed by those feelings of guilt that torment her, she is human, she feels and suffers, she has emotions. The noises, not being able to sleep well, some nightmares, it is her mind sending her signals, it is the remorse that accumulates tension, because at any moment she will fall into the well that she herself has dug with the bad actions and mistakes of her life.
The culture of annulment These are the times we live in, where condemnation comes from the grand jury of social networks, regardless of whether it is true or false, regardless of the context in which some statements are given. All that matters is that you are famous enough to make the outrage worse. Forget about being innocent until proven guilty, now you are guilty just because someone says something in a tweet. That's the way the world is today. In some cases guilt is proven, but in others there are doubts, but that doesn't matter, today you can be on top of the world and tomorrow buried in the depths. The only thing that matters is the destruction, the mockery, the memes, the clickbait.
El artista y la obra ¿Debemos separar la obra del artista? Yo creo que sí, y es algo que pongo en práctica. La historia nos ha dado grandes artistas, ya sea en la literatura, el arte pictórico, el cine y por supuesto, la música. La vida privada de esos artistas, sus ideas políticas, sus prejuicios, pertenecen a su esfera personal. Un artista puede disgustarme por sus ideas, pero eso no me impedirá admirar y disfrutar de su obra como profesional.
Mientras veía la película, me vino a la mente el nombre de Roman Polanski, a quien muchos de ustedes ya conocen o han visto alguna de sus películas. Evadiendo la justicia americana durante décadas, hizo algo moralmente cuestionable y un crimen. Puede que no sea la mejor persona del mundo porque infringió la ley, aunque incluso ha sido perdonado por la que fue su víctima. No defiendo lo que hizo, pero si defiendo su trabajo como artista, no dejaré de ver sus excelentes películas y catalogarlo como uno de los mejores cineastas .
Los que no separan a los artistas de sus obras, son realmente hipócritas, porque no deberían admirar ningún tipo de arte. Todas las artes tienen influencias de artistas del pasado, que han inspirado generación tras generación, por lo que no deberíamos consumir ningún tipo de arte, en el caso de la historia del film, seria la música clásica, ya que todas tienen influencias de grandes músicos del pasado que seguramente hicieron cosas malas, cometieron algún tipo de abuso, fueron racistas, etc.
Hay una escena en la película, desarrollada en un magnífico plano secuencia donde a un personaje no le gustan unos maestros de la música clásica y se niega a tocar su música, porque son piezas compuestas por cisheteros, ¿en serio? y el tipo quiere ser uno de los grandes en el futuro? ¿Tiene coherencia? Que sea el personaje de Lidya, una mujer gay, quien le diga las cosas como son, me pareció maravilloso. Es una de las secuencias del film que mas disfrute. Lo que Lidya le dice es la verdad. Incluso yo, consumo arte creado por personas que siguen una ideología política que detesto. ¡Por el amor de Dios!
Culpa y remordimiento. Esto es lo que aporta una mayor dimensión al personaje principal. Lidya es alguien que toda su vida ha hecho algo que le beneficia, siempre espera obtener algo de otra persona. Incluso se muestra indiferente cuando le informan de que su madre ha intentado comunicarse con ella. Lidya está dentro de su propia burbuja de cristal y sólo hay una cosa que la saca de ese lugar y la hace pisar el mundo real por unos instantes: su hija Petra.
Por otro lado, su proceso creativo se alimenta de esos sentimientos de culpa que la atormentan, es humana, siente y padece, tiene emociones. Los ruidos, no poder dormir bien, algunas pesadillas, es su mente enviándole señales, son los remordimientos que acumulan tensión, porque en cualquier momento caerá en el pozo que ella misma ha cavado con las malas acciones y errores de su vida.
La cultura de la anulación. Son los tiempos que corren, donde la condena llega desde el gran jurado de las redes sociales, sin importar si es verdad o mentira, sin importar el contexto en el que se dan unas declaraciones. Sólo importa que seas lo suficientemente famoso para que la indignación sea mayor. Olvídate de ser inocente hasta que se demuestre lo contrario, ahora eres culpable sólo porque alguien diga algo en un tuit. Así está el mundo hoy. En algunos casos se demuestra la culpabilidad, pero en otros hay dudas, pero eso no importa, hoy puedes estar en la cima del mundo y mañana enterrado en las profundidades. Lo único que importa es la destrucción, la burla, los memes, el clickbait.
What is the plot of the film?
The acclaimed Lydia Tár is in Berlin to perform and record with the Philharmonic Orchestra one of Gustav Mahler's symphonies, whose music was banned during the Nazi era. Tár is one of the best films of the past year dealing with current acute issues, but unfortunately it is not being talked about much. I have already said what I suspect the reasons are. I just wanted to comment on some of the points you highlight in your post.
I totally agree with you that intoxication by power (and money as well) is gender-free. We are all humans in the end, and although a lot of proofs are against the male gender historically, this doesn't mean that this kind of behavior is exclusive. In my view more than a difference in gender, it is a difference in social classes, of course, the ones that are intoxicated by power are of course the ones that have it, and this is a small percentage of humanity, and always has been like this... then of course, as I was saying, history has thought us that this small percentage has mostly composed by man, but this is changing slowly.
Of course, I am not saying this to exonerate anyone for their responsibility, since everyone is always free (more or less depending on the historical time you live) to take a decision...

La Artista y la Obra: estoy de acuerdo con evaluarlos separadamente, cada aspecto del ser humano, actitudes y aptitudes pienso se evalúan separadamente. Según leo la muchachona es una gran artista que hace todo y sacrifica lo necesario para su obra.
La parte de Lydia mala o buena: pienso es humana, lo que nombraste al principio, toma decisiones que al ser humana habrán buenas y malas porque no somos perfectos, ahora pienso tiende a buena porque tiene remordimiento y eso indica que existe conciencia, su yo interno castigándola.
Poder: si, definitivamente conoces totalmente a una persona cuando tiene el poder, ahí es cuando sabes que tan manipuladora es a mal o bien para lograr sus objetivos, la meta sacrificando todo o no, amigos o no, familia o no etc porque esa persona en el caso de que Si lo haga sabe que no hay retaliación, no hay contraparte, solo hay sumisos que siguen la orden. Ahora esto depende del extremo de Lydia que noto aplastara, masacrara lo que se oponga y sacrificara lo que le convenga, acá pienso es malo porque no lo veo necesario.

La muchachona Blanchett tiene el premio asegurado. Aunque todo puede pasar, no creo que se vuelvan locos los de la academia.
El personaje tiene capas, no es un personaje plan, es profundo, creíble , aunque es una persona egocéntrica, pedante, egoísta, infiel, etc cae bien, aunque intuimos que ha cometido abusos, es la magia de la actriz, otorgarle dimensiones a personaje.
Dicen que el poder corrompe, pero en realidad es la persona que ejerce el poder que ya esta podrida, solo que al tener el poder saca su verdadera cara.

Antes de los Oscar honestamente no la tenía en mi radar, no obstante, tiene varios elementos que llaman muchísimo mi atención, empezando por el performance de Cate Blanchett.
Blanchett ha ganado todos los premios, así que muy difícil que ocurra lo contario con e Oscar. Mi favorita sentimental es Ana de Armas, pero lamentablemente para ella, Blanchett hace un trabajo superior.

La tengo en la lista, siempre antes de los Oscar hago lo mismo con aquellas películas que aún no me ha dado chance de ver.
Bueno, ya se ganó el Globo de Oro, es de esperarse que se lleve el Oscar pero cuidado con Michelle Yeoh, su película está haciendo mucho ruido y no se yo si la academia al final decida dárselo para ganarse un poco a las nuevas generaciones con un film totalmente nuevo y fresco. Si hay algo en lo que no confío son en los premios hoy en día, sin quitarle merito a nadie.
Habrá que verla pero siendo Cate es difícil esperarse una poca cosa.
Si, puede que la academia haga una jugada, seria una sorpresa, pero ya Blanchett ha ganado todos los otros premios, es muy difícil que que decidan lo contrario, además, realmente Blanchett esta increíble.
A mi me falta por ver son la película belga, la de India y una película donde nominaron a una de as actrices que si fue una sorpresa su nominación. De las nominadas a mejor film y a las vi todas.

Sabía que te iba a gustar, es una gran película con una actuación suprema por parte de Cate. Lo mejor es que no intentan convencer a nadie de nada, cada quien se hace sus propios juicios.
Sobre lo de que no se habla mucho, no lo creo, yo vi un montón de noticias sobre cómo Cate prácticamente traicionó a todas las mujeres del mundo por haber aceptado un papel así, sobre cómo la misma mujer que hizo Carol pudo atreverse a hacer algo como Tár, además de otra sarta de estupideces que ya no recuerdo.
De verdad fue una película que incomodó mucho, como dices, si hubiera sido un protagonista masculino quizás hubiera tenido mayor proyección, pero cómo se atreven a poner a una mujer lesbiana con actitudes reprobables. Ni hablar sobre la "cancelación", es un crimen decir algo contra de ese movimiento horrible. Yo estoy segura de que la película no cayó en el olvido por el excelente trabajo de Cate y del director, si hubieran sido otros ocupando ese lugar, sin duda ni se hablaría de ella, a pesar de su mensaje tan importante.
A mí me pareció maravilloso que mostraran las cosas como son, no todas las mujeres ni todas las lesbianas son perfectas, hay gente horrible en todos los sexos y orientaciones sexuales, eso me lleva al otro tema de la película, separar el arte del artista, los que no puedan hacer eso que se retiren de la vida, que jamás vuelvan a ver una película, escuchar una canción, leer un libro, ni nada, porque los seres humanos somos imperfectos y todos hemos hecho cosas "malas" en algún momento de nuestras vidas.

Estaba esperando las nominaciones al Oscar, para ver cuantas le darían el film. La busque una semana después que tu hiciste tu review 😆 no podía aguantarme esperar mucho tiempo, por eso bien merecido los premios que Blanchett ha ganado, porque esta increíble, sabes que me gusta Ana de Armas, pero lamentablemente este es el año de Blanchett. no creo que la academia vaya contra la corriente, se ha llevado todos los otros premios.
es un film que aborda el tema del abuso sexual, el abuso de poder, por supuesto que esta influenciada proel movimiento metoo, pero me encanta que el escritor y director hiciera el personaje femenino, creo que lo escribió pensando exactamente en Blanchett. Pero al ser la protagonista y posible abusadora una mujer, le da la vuelta al asunto para hacernos pensar. Hay, una mujer también puede cometer abuso, no solo los hombres.
La escena con el chico que se niega a tocar a bach ( creo que así se escribe) me encanto.

Lamento que no se haya ganado el Oscar. Pero bueno, a los que apreciamos la actuación, sabemos que Cate es una de las fuertes. Al igual que tú, me pareció acertado que usaran una mujer, gay, para demostrar que cualquiera que tenga una poco de poder, puede verse corrompido por él. Pero así como subes rápido como la espuma, y puedes ser súper talentoso. Puedes caer derribado por la misma sociedad. Lamente mucho el final de la película, por como termina una persona tan talentosa debido a sus malas decisiones. Pero así es la vida. Cómo el hoyo. Un día estás arriba, pero otro puede que estés abajo.

Me encanto Tár . Cate Blanchett creo que era la que debía ganar. Meses atrás había dicho que las principales contendientes eran Blanchett y De Armas, pero que Blanchett maneja mas matices con su personaje y era superior. Luego, hice mis predicciones después que se entregaron los premios SAG y en el post dije que Michelle Yeoh se metió en la pelea con muchas posibilidades.

Hace poco el director declaro que parece que no volverá a hacer otro film, se tardo como 16 años en volver a dirigir. Quizás hay un poco del personaje Lidya Tár en el, escribió el guion. No ganar seguro le hirió, todos los artistas pro muy humildes que digan sr, les afecta el ego. Tu eres artista, sabes que es así.
