The Brief Life | Mini Serie Review
You are born, you reign, and you die.
This miniseries caught my attention because it deals with a historical topic, but I didn't have much faith that it would be any good because they added humorous touches. So I started watching it thinking I wouldn't like it, but I ended up hooked and delighted by this daring adventure.
There are several elements worth highlighting in this production. The first is the beautiful costumes. They have invested a lot of money in the production, and the costumes and sets are the kind that make you want to pause the scene and admire them as if they were a painting. It's the kind of series that makes you want to watch it just to enjoy that aspect.
The other thing is the tone they have decided to give it. They draw inspiration from a historical moment in Spain to tell the story from a very entertaining point of view. The first episode is titled La Marrana, and you can already feel that touch of humor in the first sequence. This isn't really new; there are recent historical series that have also done this with good results. One series I've watched for two seasons is La reina serpiente, which also has some dark humor.
Like the series I just mentioned, this one also uses anachronism, adding modern music to a centuries-old story. In episode five, there is a dance that ends up being very entertaining. I watched that part three times because I liked it, although there may be people who would like to see something more dramatic that faithfully reflects everything like a history book, but this is different; its intention is to entertain.
Esta miniserie me llamó la atención porque trata un tema histórico, pero no tenía mucha fe que fuese buena porque lo hicieran con toques humorísticos. Así que empecé a verla pensando que no me gustaría, pero terminé enganchado y encantado con esta atrevida aventura.
Hay varios elementos que vale la pena destacar en esta producción. El primero es el hermoso vestuario. Han invertido mucho dinero en la producción, y el vestuario y los decorados son de esos que dan ganas de pausar la escena y admirarlos como si fueran un cuadro. Es el tipo de serie que te dan ganas de ver para deleitarte con ese aspecto.
Lo otro es el tono que han decidido darle. Se inspiran en un momento histórico de España para contar la historia desde un punto de vista muy entretenido. El primer episodio se titula La Marrana, y en la primera secuencia ya se puede sentir ese toque de humor. Esto no es realmente nuevo; hay series históricas recientes que también lo han hecho con buenos resultados. Una serie que he visto durante dos temporadas es La reina serpiente, que también tiene algo de humor negro.
Al igual que la serie que acabo de mencionar, aquí se recurre al anacronismo, añadiendo música moderna a una historia de hace siglos. En el episodio cinco hay un baile que acaba siendo muy entretenido. Yo vi esa parte tres veces porque me gustó, aunque puede que haya gente que quisiera ver algo más dramático que reflejara fielmente todo como un libro de historia, pero esto es diferente; su intención es entretener.
The story is about one of the kings of Spain who seems to be very little known, and that is because his reign lasted only six months. Luis El Breve (Louis the Brief) was the nickname given to this king. In reality, he was just a child; I don't think he had even reached the age of majority when his father, King Felipe V, abdicated because he was going mad, and his son was crowned.
The charm of the story lies in the way it is told. Real historical facts are taken, but presented in an entertaining way. For example, Louis I's wife was the French Louise Isabelle d'Orléans, who, according to records, was also not quite right in the head. It is said that these people of the nobility married among relatives, so genetically that would have consequences in each generation. The actual facts say that she was a dirty queen who farted, smelled bad, and even exposed her private parts in the palace. The miniseries shows all of this, but without any dramatic weight; on the contrary, they do it in a humorous way.
Similarly, Felipe V is portrayed as a king who loves to fuck, is addicted to it, and we see what happened to his first wife, the mother of Luis I. There are some pretty crazy scenes that make you laugh. He was another one with a screw loose. Intrigue, opportunists, corruption, and even references to current events, because they even use more modern language that is not typical of the period, but I repeat myself. It works wonderfully.
Finally, a remarkable cast. Everyone, from the protagonists to the supporting characters. Here, they all shine. I got to episode six and didn't want it to end, plus I grew fond of the characters. I loved the miniseries. I saw that it's nominated for the Feroz Awards and I think it has a good chance of winning as a comedy.

La historia trata sobre uno de los reyes de España que parece ser muy poco conocido, y eso se debe a que su reinado duró solo seis meses. Luis El Breve fue el apodo que se le dio a este rey. En realidad, era solo un niño, creo que ni siquiera había alcanzado la mayoría de edad cuando su padre, el rey Felipe V, abdicó porque se estaba volviendo loco y su hijo fue coronado.
El encanto de la historia reside en la forma en que se cuenta. Se toman hechos históricos reales, pero se presentan de una manera entretenida. Por ejemplo, la esposa de Luis I era la francesa Luisa Isabel de Orleans, quien, según los registros, tampoco estaba del todo bien de la cabeza. Se dice que estas personas de la nobleza se casaban entre parientes, por lo que genéticamente eso tendría consecuencias en cada generación. Los datos reales dicen que era una reina sucia, que se tiraba pedos, olía mal e incluso mostraba sus partes íntimas en el palacio. La miniserie muestra todo esto, pero sin ningún peso dramático; al contrario, lo hacen de forma humorística.
Del mismo modo, la representación de Felipe V es la de un rey al que le encanta follar, es adicto a ello, y veremos lo que pasó con su primera esposa, la madre de Luis I. Hay algunas escenas bastante locas que te hacen reír. Era otro que tenía un tornillo suelto. Intrigas, oportunistas, corrupción e incluso referencias a temas de actualidad, porque incluso utilizan un lenguaje más moderno que no es típico de la época, pero me repito. Funciona de maravilla.
Por último, un reparto notable. Todos, desde los protagonistas hasta los secundarios. Aquí, todos brillan. Llegué al episodio seis y no quería que terminara, además me encariñé con los personajes. Me encantó la miniserie. Vi que está nominada a los Premios Feroz y creo que tiene muchas posibilidades de ganar como comedia.

Me encanta el punto de vista con que se ha tomado esta parte de la historia para crear la miniserie, humor y eso lo cambia todo y hace entretenido algo que muchos no verían. Coincido en el tema del vestuario y la decoración. Realmente ni yo sabía que existía esta parte de la historia... ese rey si que no duró nada y que todos estaban medios locos y les faltaban varios tornillos... sería la mezcla entre ellos?👀

Me sorprendió para bien esta mini serie, es bastante divertida y en acierta en loso detalles, es muy agradable visualmente por las locaciones naturales, el vestuario, hubo investigación de la época. Me ha encantado!
