Train Dreams | Film Review
Deep down, she knows it, even if she doesn't know it, she already knows it.
There are stories that are so beautiful and simple. They are the ones that move me deeply. From beginning to end, I wasn't distracted or did I get up from my seat. This is something difficult to do nowadays, with so many distractions around when you watch a movie at home. It was impossible not to be enchanted by what I was watching. Train Dreams is one of those movies that moves me.
I'll be frank, even though movies aspiring to be nominated for Golden Globes and Oscars will be released in the coming weeks. For me, this movie is, at this moment, my favorite for the upcoming awards season. Screw Anderson and his propaganda movie. Screw Kathryn Bigelow too, with her House of Dynamite and her worried faces. Not even Ari Aster with his social satire Eddington. Train Dreams is a worthwhile and moving film.
Perhaps you've asked yourself this question one day: Is my life worth telling? And perhaps you've thought no, that your life isn't interesting enough to turn into a story. Perhaps you are wrong, because behind the simplest things lie real stories that fill the soul. Because life is a constant battle and many of us seek meaning in everything.
The film focuses on the life of the character Robert Grainier, who has not had an easy life since childhood. A man of few words, he finds his soul mate, the love of his life, Gladys. Together they start a family, build their house by the river, and he has to spend a lot of time away because he works cutting down trees for the railroad companies. A simple, uncomplicated life. Like many, he is a man who seeks to provide for his family.
Hay historias que son tan hermosas y sencillas. Son las que me conmueven profundamente. Desde el principio hasta el final, no me distraje ni me levanté de mi asiento. Esto es algo difícil de hacer hoy en día, con tantas distracciones alrededor cuando ves una película en casa. Era imposible no quedar encantado con lo que estaba viendo. Train Dreams es una de esas películas que me emocionan.
Voy a ser franco, aunque en las próximas semanas se estrenarán películas que aspiran a ser nominadas a los Globos de Oro y los Óscar. Para mí, esta película es, en este momento, mi favorita para la próxima temporada de premios. Que se joda Anderson y su película propagandística. Que le den también a Kathryn Bigelow con su House of Dynamite y sus caras preocupadas. Ni siquiera Ari Aster con su sátira social Eddington. Train Dreams es una película que vale la pena y que nos conmueve.
Quizás te hayas hecho esta pregunta algún día: ¿Mi vida merece ser contada? Y quizás hayas pensado que no, que tu vida no es lo suficientemente interesante como para convertirla en una historia. Quizás te equivoques, porque detrás de las cosas más simples se esconden historias reales que llenan el alma. Porque la vida es una batalla constante y muchos de nosotros buscamos un significado en todo.
La película se centra en la vida del personaje Robert Grainier, que no ha tenido una vida fácil desde su infancia. Hombre de pocas palabras, encuentra a su alma gemela, el amor de su vida, Gladys. Juntos forman una familia, construyen su casa junto al río, y él tiene que pasar mucho tiempo fuera porque trabaja talando árboles para las compañías ferroviarias. Una vida sencilla y sin complicaciones. Como muchos, es un hombre que busca mantener a su familia.
I don't understand why the film hasn't been promoted more. The director has done a great job adapting a novel by American writer Denis Johnson. The filmmaker's work is sublime. He has made a beautiful film, not only visually, credit for which must also go to the director of photography. I haven't had time to find out who was responsible for the photography, but their work is fantastic.
I can't say more about the plot, because it would reveal important moments. I want you to enjoy the film as it should be enjoyed and to feel it. I was moved and captivated by its beauty, but it also had a profound impact on me, breaking me down once again with its story. It's impossible not to feel anything, and I'm not an insensitive person, quite the contrary. When stories deal with such close-to-home issues, it's impossible not to feel the pain.
I should add that the cast is perfect. It's a film made to win awards. Joel Edgerton plays Robert. His character may not talk much, but his expressive restraint suits him perfectly. An excellent actor who deserves to be on the list of nominees.
Another character who stands out is Arn Peeples, another lumberjack, played by William H. Macy. His character has some lines and moments that make you think. Felicity Jones plays Gladys, Robert's wife, his rock, his support, the woman who chose him to start a family. She is an actress who always delivers and stands out, and this is no exception.
I have nothing more to add, except that you should watch it, it's worth it. It's on Netflix, and I hope it will be considered for next year's big awards. I'll read your comments.
No entiendo por qué no se ha promocionado más la película. El director ha hecho un gran trabajo adaptando una novela del escritor estadounidense Denis Johnson. El trabajo del cineasta es sublime. Ha hecho una película preciosa, no solo visualmente, mérito que también hay que atribuir al director de fotografía. No he tenido tiempo de averiguar quién se encargó de la fotografía, pero su trabajo es fantástico.
No puedo decir más sobre la trama, porque revelaría momentos importantes. Quiero que disfrutes de la película como se debe disfrutar y que la sientas. Me conmovió y cautivó su belleza, pero también me impactó mucho, haciendo que volviera a quebrarme ante una historia. Es imposible no sentir nada, y no soy una persona insensible, sino todo lo contrario. Cuando las historias tratan temas de la vida tan cercanos, es imposible no sentir el dolor.
Debo añadir que el reparto es perfecto. Es una película hecha para ganar premios. Joel Edgerton interpreta a Robert. Su personaje puede que no hable mucho, pero su expresiva contención le va como anillo al dedo. Un actor excelente que merece estar en la lista de nominados.
Otro personaje que destaca es Arn Peeples, otro leñador, interpretado por William H. Macy. Su personaje tiene algunas frases y momentos que te hacen pensar. Felicity Jones interpreta a Gladys, la esposa de Robert, su roca, su apoyo, la mujer que lo eligió para formar una familia. Es una actriz que siempre cumple y destaca, y esta no es una excepción.

Hay algo que el trailer no destripa, es la parte donde el sufrimiento se hace presente de forma desgarradora. Eso fue lo que mas me llego. hasta ahora es la película americana de este año que me calado mas. Es la gran apuesta de Netflix para los grandes premios, aunque me extraña que se estreno sin gran promoción. Te la recomiendo.

El sufrimiento es parte del aprendizaje, muchos no aprenden si no sufren, es una de las formas, pero no la única, siempre aparece alguien en el camino que puede ayudar, sólo hay que dejarse ayudar.

The marketing side of film at the moment is truly terrible. It's like they're just pumping out films one after the other and not giving any of them a chance to actually get seen. No marketing, no space, not even consideration around when they can release alongside holidays. I think they're just banking on going straight to streaming and slowly generating enough money to earn back the budget from the royalties on that end. But the problem of course being so many films getting released and all competing on streaming just means most don't get seen at all.
Very true. So many platforms, all releasing movies and series en masse. It even overwhelms the viewer, who, after so much channel surfing trying to decide what to watch, gets tired and ends up watching nothing. This film deserved more promotion, but perhaps they're focusing on promoting Stranger Things, which has more hype and a larger audience. Sometimes I come across things that went unnoticed and are actually quite good.
Claro que merece ser contada, uno de los enfoques lo titularia "The Lonely Burguer" que abarcaria los generos economico y fantasia, el protagonista (yo) emprende un viaje de aprendizajes economicos mientras lidia con conflictos sentimentales al ser un Gigolo Burguer al cual muchas mujeres explotan economica.... y sexualmente (esto ultimo es la parte de fantasia 😜)
Justo hoy alquilo Netflix para estar al dia con Stranger Things y aprovechare de ver Train Dreams el fin de semana porque tengo tiempo que no suelto una buena lagrima al ver una historia centrada y bien ejecutada en las vivencias de vida
De hecho las vivencias exitosas pueden llamar la atencion, la victoria del HEROE siempre, pero en realidad lo que si sucede siempre es que hay fracaso en muchos ambitos de lo que vamos viviendo, de amor, de familia, economicos porque siempre la sociedad voraz esta alli presionando y aplastando a todos donde sufren los mas debiles que no son de luchar etc

Stranger Things nunca le he visto. Tampoco pienso verla. Nunca me llamo la atención. preferí a Dark que Stranger Things.
La realidad la vida es una mierda, solo son problemas y viendo como sobrevivir. En medio de eso solo quedan pequeños placeres. Comer y follar. peor son cosas momentaneas.
