Firstly, I will comment on the writer of this movie, she deserves her flower and she nailed it. Sit tight this Nigerian movie is no other but “To kill a Monkey”
If you're a Mafia lover, not really dark romance, a fan though. This movie is for you and firstly let me show you what to expect, betrayal, greed, revenge, love, lust, family.
The movie starts with Efemini who struggles to make ends meet just to provide for his family, he borrows loans to settle his family issues yet he barely earns much to feed his family and talk more of settling his debt.
Life rode on him, he was insulted, taken advantage of and even pushed to his limit by his mother in-law until he met Oboz, a cold heartless Mafia boss who makes rational decisions without thinking of the outcome.
Oboz recognizes Efemini at the restaurant he works and barely earned enough, Efemini saved Oboz life while they were still in school and felt indebted to him, cleared his debt, offered to help him but Efemini declined at first because it was going to threaten his reputation, his values, his principles.
He has the brains, is a good software developer and wants to earn money legally but life puts him in such a situation he has to make a life threatening decision.
Choose to fade away in abject poverty or choose to do the wrong things to give his family a good life.
Like they always say, money is the root of all problems and every decision requires critical thinking. Life was good so good for Efemini, he doesn't just provide for his family now but has landed property and businesses around. He was doing well for himself before the first hit.
The teacher, the most gullible, evil and wicked character. A very greedy one. He made his move by attacking Oboz firstly and in retaliation Oboz killed his grandchildren right In front of him, a very traumatic experience.
Inspector MO Ogunlesi, a nosy character who wants to always prove herself, dedicated to her work even ignored her family just because of work not until the tragedy happened. She lost herself when she lost her family to an accident. A very traumatic experience for her and she's left to go for therapy in order to bounce back to her career but her best friend has already taken her position and she's demoted to an inspector. But does the end justify the means.
Nosa, another interesting character. The wife of Efemini. I must say she nailed her role so much. Her daughter's life was threatened and she's left to make a harsh decision. From a precious lovely wife to a drunk. She drinks to feel relief, her husband's attention was denied from her and she feels alone which caused a rift between her and her husband, coupled with the security of her family she's left to protect the people she dearly loved but then things got more sour.
Efemini, I must comment on this character. He nailed it but then his betrayal was a blow and a hit. There is a saying “If you want to dine with the devil then you have to use a long spoon”
Giving a better life for his family, he had to betray his friend and brother but then he never thought about what comes next, his family now see him as a monster, his daughter doesn't want anything to do with him and his mistress didn't think twice before trashing him.
The movie comes with a backstory of each character and the twist is a banger. When life forces you to make a difficult choice. Will you choose the good, the bad or the ugly?
People don't recognize the extent of damage till it's too late.
I will rate this movie 10/10. A good moral lesson for all.
