Waking Up by MJ Cole & Freya Ridings | Jessica Ossom Cover | Week 39

It's week 39 in the Vibes Web3 Music Competition and the theme for the week is soundtrack from legendary movies. This theme has been one that I have been hoping we would have for the longest time, and I'm glad that we are finally on it this week.

I watched a Netflix thriller titled Behind Her Eyes. It was a very interesting watch that captured my attention. It’s one of those stories where you think there’s going to be a happy ending, but then it turns out there’s a huge twist.

In the end, a single mother and her son were travelling somewhere new with her new lover after their wedding — but the man didn’t know that the soul inside her body wasn’t actually hers anymore. In the movie, they practiced something called astral projection, where a person’s spirit can leave their body and even take over someone else’s. By the final scene, we realize that the woman he married is not truly the woman he fell in love with — her body has been taken over by another soul entirely.

The part where the soundtrack was played was one of the scenes where the single mother and her new lover were having a nice time together. The song really caught my attention — so much that I immediately opened my Google app to search for its title and the artist. Ever since then, it has been on my playlist. And when this theme finally came out, I didn’t even think twice. I just decided to sing that particular song without looking any further.

I added my own twist to the song, layering in harmonies that made it sound fuller and richer. I’m so happy with how the final result turned out, and I truly enjoyed bringing my own style into this beautiful piece.
