Hello everyone, dear Movies and TV Shows community, I hope you're all doing great. This time, I want to talk a little about a really good movie that ended up surprising me. I'm talking about Air... yes, the movie... about a shoe. I know what you're thinking: A movie about how they made the Air Jordan? I swear I thought exactly the same thing. When they told me what it was about, I got really lazy, but suddenly I saw two names: Ben Affleck is directing, Matt Damon is acting... there, friends, things changed. I have blind faith in Affleck as a director, the guy is a genius, so I went in, expecting something decent, but if I got what I wanted... what I found was great. First, Ben Affleck... at this point, doubting the guy as a director is silly, what a way to tell a story... he took a subject that on paper sounds like a boring business documentary and transformed it into a super entertaining, fun, and truly inspiring film. You instantly feel like you're in 1984, and not just because of the hairstyles or the clothes... the way it's shot, the music, the whole atmosphere feels real.

And Affleck throws in bits of archival footage from the time in such a clever way that you feel right there in the middle of it all, you get the '80s vibe, and that's key to understanding what was at stake... the plot is about how Nike, which at the time wasn't the monster it is today—in fact, it was third in line, far behind Converse and Adidas—bet all the money from its basketball division on a single player: a rookie named Michael Jordan. At the heart of it all is Sonny Vaccaro, a spectacular Matt Damon. His character is a slightly scruffy, paunchy guy who lives and breathes basketball and has an almost religious faith in what Jordan can become. You see him fighting against his own company, against everyone who doesn't believe him, and it's impossible not to root for him. His passion is contagious... it's the classic story of someone who comes from underdogs, but seen from an angle we hardly ever explore: the corporate side. Here we don't see the small team winning the finals, we see a bunch of executives trying to score a half-court goal that could save them or sink them forever.

Hola a todos, querida comunidad de Movies and TV Shows, espero que estén super bien, en esta ocasión, les quiero hablar un poco de una película muy buena, que acabó sorprendiéndome, hablo de Air.. sí, la película… sobre un zapato, ya sé qué están pensando: ¿Una película de cómo hicieron los Air Jordan? les juro que yo pensé exactamente lo mismo.. cuando me contaron de qué iba, me dio una flojera tremenda, pero de repente vi dos nombres: Ben Affleck dirige, Matt Damon actúa.. ahí, amigos, la cosa cambió, yo a Affleck como director le tengo una fe ciega, el tipo es un crack, así que le entré, esperando algo decente, si bien me iba.. lo que me encontré fue, genial. Primero, Ben Affleck.. a estas alturas, dudar del tipo como director ya es una tontería, qué manera de contar una historia.. agarró un tema que en papel suena a documental aburridísimo de negocios y lo transformó en una película súper entretenida, divertida y que de verdad te inspira, te sientes en 1984 al instante, y no solo por los peinados o la ropa.. la forma en que está grabada, la música, todo el ambiente se siente real.

Y Affleck mete pedazos de videos de archivo de la época de una forma tan inteligente que te sientes ahí, en medio de todo, sientes la onda de los 80, y eso es clave para entender lo que se estaban jugando.. la trama va de cómo Nike, que en ese momento no era el monstruo que es hoy —de hecho, era el tercero en la fila, muy por debajo de Converse y Adidas—, le apostó toda la plata de su división de básquet a un solo jugador: un novato llamado Michael Jordan. El corazón de todo esto es Sonny Vaccaro, un Matt Damon que está espectacular, su personaje es un tipo medio descuidado, con pancita, que vive y respira básquet y que tiene una fe casi religiosa en lo que Jordan puede llegar a ser, lo ves peleando contra su propia empresa, contra todo el mundo que no le cree, y es imposible no ponerse de su lado. Su pasión se contagia.. es la clásica historia del que viene de abajo, pero vista desde un ángulo que casi nunca exploramos: el lado corporativo, aquí no vemos al equipo chico ganando la final, vemos a un montón de ejecutivos intentando meter un gol de media cancha que podría salvarlos o hundirlos para siempre.

And this is where the film really shines... because, look, we all know how the story ends. I mean, who doesn't know Air Jordans? But Affleck, somehow, manages to create a brutal tension. I swear there were moments, especially at the end, when my heart was in my mouth. There's a phone call near the end that's a lesson in how to create suspense... you already know the outcome, but the film makes you doubt, it gets you so deep into the characters' skin that you feel their anguish. That, people, that's filmmaking... the cast... my goodness!

A great cast where everyone shines. Jason Bateman is perfect as the marketing head, Rob Strasser, with that dry humor of his, but here he adds a vulnerable side that reaches out to you. Chris Tucker... what a joy to see him again in a film like this! He gives it an energy and a spark that the film needed yes or yes... then there's Chris Messina as Jordan's agent, David Falk, his scenes, especially when he's on the phone with Matt Damon, are gold, they're explosive, the guy doesn't stop swearing, you die of laughter but at the same time you feel a tension that you can almost touch. You really felt like Messina was going to jump out of the phone to strangle Damon, every argument between them is a great moment.

But if there's someone who steals the movie every time she appears, it's Viola Davis as Michael's mother, Deloris Jordan... what a powerful performance! With just one look, with a silence, she tells you everything, she's the lioness mother who protects her cub, but at the same time she's an incredibly intelligent and cunning negotiator, she's the one who understands what her son is truly worth, not only as an athlete, but as a brand... here comes a great detail, a decision that I loved: we never see Michael Jordan's face.

Y aquí es donde la película se pone brillante.. porque a ver, todos sabemos cómo termina la historia, o sea, ¿quién no conoce los Air Jordan? Pero Affleck, no sé cómo, logra crear una tensión brutal, les juro que había momentos, sobre todo al final, que yo estaba con el corazón en la boca, hay una llamada por teléfono casi al final que es una clase de cómo crear suspenso.. tú ya sabes el resultado, pero la película te hace dudar, te mete tanto en la piel de los personajes que sientes su angustia, eso, gente, eso es saber hacer cine.. el reparto… ¡mamita querida! Un elencazo donde todos se lucen. Jason Bateman está perfecto como el jefe de marketing, Rob Strasser, con ese humor seco que tiene, pero aquí le mete un lado vulnerable que te llega. Chris Tucker… ¡qué alegría volver a verlo en una película así!

Le pone una energía y una chispa que la película necesitaba sí o sí.. luego está Chris Messina como el agente de Jordan, David Falk, sus escenas, sobre todo cuando habla por teléfono con Matt Damon, son oro, son explosivas, el tipo no para de soltar groserías, te mueres de risa pero al mismo tiempo sientes una tensión que casi puedes tocar. De verdad sentías que Messina iba a salir del teléfono para ahorcar a Damon, cada pleito entre ellos es un momentazo.

Pero si hay alguien que se roba la película cada vez que aparece, es Viola Davis como la mamá de Michael, Deloris Jordan.. qué actuación tan poderosa! Con una sola mirada, con un silencio, te lo dice todo, es la mamá leona que protege a su cachorro, pero al mismo tiempo es una negociadora increíblemente inteligente y astuta, es ella la que entiende lo que su hijo vale de verdad, no solo como deportista, sino como una marca.. aquí viene un detallazo, una decisión que me encantó: a Michael Jordan nunca le vemos la cara.

We see him from behind, like a silhouette, an almost legendary figure, that was a stroke of genius, because the film is not about him, the athlete, but about the legend that was built around him and the people who made it possible... by not showing it, the attention stays on Sonny, on Nike and, above all, on his mother... it is she, Viola's character, who throws in one of the most important twists and the one that changed history: when she stands firm and demands that athletes take a piece of the pie from the profits from the products bearing her name. An idea that changed the sports business forever, and the film gives that moment the importance it deserves, the connection that is built between her and Matt Damon's character is the true heart of the entire film... but what really blew my mind is how funny it is.

I mean, you’re watching a drama about contracts and marketing, and you’re laughing. The script is full of super sharp dialogue, moments that make you laugh out loud and feel super natural, nothing feels forced... the movie flies by, it’s almost two hours long and you don’t even notice. I was also amazed by how they use graphics to give you context. There’s a scene where Affleck’s character, the boss of Nike, wonders how much money they could make from those shoes… “like, three million?”… out of nowhere, BAM!, a text appears on the screen telling you that Air Jordans have generated over 150 million dollars A YEAR, every year. It’s a brilliant way of colliding what they were thinking at the time with the craziness that we know happened next, and it gives incredible weight to everything they decide... in the end, people, you really feel inspired.

Lo vemos de espaldas, como una silueta, una figura casi de leyenda, esa fue una movida de genio, porque es que la peli no se trata de él, del atleta, sino de la leyenda que se armó a su alrededor y de la gente que lo hizo posible.. al no mostrarlo, la atención se queda en Sonny, en Nike y, sobre todo, en su mamá.. es ella, el personaje de Viola, la que mete uno de los giros más importantes y que cambiaron la historia: cuando se pone firme y pide que los deportistas se lleven un pedazo del pastel por las ganancias de los productos con su nombre. Una idea que cambió para siempre el negocio del deporte, y la película le da a ese momento la importancia que se merece, la conexión que se arma entre ella y el personaje de Matt Damon es el verdadero corazón de toda la película.. pero lo que de verdad me voló la cabeza es lo divertida que es.

O sea, estás viendo un drama sobre contratos y marketing, y te estás riendo, el guion está lleno de diálogos súper filosos, de momentos que te sacan una carcajada y que se sienten súper naturales, nada se siente a la fuerza.. la película se te va volando, dura casi dos horas y ni cuenta te das, también me mató cómo usan los gráficos para darte contexto. Hay una escena donde el personaje de Affleck, el jefe de Nike, se pregunta cuánta plata podrían ganar con esos zapatos… “¿unos tres millones, quizás?”.. de la nada, ¡PUM!, te aparece un texto en la pantalla que te dice que los Air Jordan han generado más de 150 millones de dólares AL AÑO, cada año, es una forma genial de chocar lo que ellos pensaban en ese momento con la locura que sabemos que pasó después, y eso le da un peso increíble a cada cosa que deciden.. al final, gente, de verdad te sientes inspirado.

For me, who really doesn't care much about sports, this movie managed to hook me, but seriously, I cared a lot. It's not just about sports, it's about believing in something to the death, so much so that you're willing to bet it all on it... it's about having instinct, having hunger, believing in what someone can become, whether it's your child, an employee, or yourself. It's the story of how a single idea changed culture forever... so my verdict? I give it an easy 9/10, it is directed in an incredible way, the performances are crazy and the script is one of those intelligent ones that also entertains you every time... maybe it is not one of those movies that I am going to see a thousand times, it happens to me a bit like with Argo, which is a great movie but I see it once and that's it, if you are a fan of Affleck, if you like the stories of those who start from the bottom and make it big, or if you simply want to see a movie that makes you feel good and inspires you, you have to see it... it is one of those rare gems that entertains you and makes you believe in yourself... and well, that's it for today's review, take care! A mí, que los deportes la verdad me dan un poco igual, esta película logró engancharme, pero en serio, me importó un montón, es que no va solo de deportes, va de creer en algo a muerte, tanto que estás dispuesto a apostarlo todo.. va de tener instinto, de tener hambre, de creer en lo que alguien puede llegar a ser, ya sea tu hijo, un empleado o tú mismo. Es la historia de cómo una sola idea cambió la cultura para siempre.. entonces, ¿mi veredicto? Le pongo un 9/10 fácil, está dirigida de una forma increíble, las actuaciones son una locura y el guion es de esos inteligentes que además te entretienen a cada rato.. tal vez no es de esas pelis que voy a ver mil veces, me pasa un poco como con Argo, que es un peliculón pero la veo una vez y ya está, si son fans de Affleck, si les laten las historias de los que empiezan de abajo y la rompen, o si simplemente quieren ver una película que los haga sentir bien y los inspire, tienen que verla.. es de esas joyitas raras que te divierten y te hacen creer en ti mismo.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, cuidense mucho!
