"Take a good look at all this dark stuff and how incredibly well done every little bit of it is!"... from the start, the atmosphere envelops you, plunging you headfirst into a strange, kind of creepy, but at the same time fascinating world, which feels magical and a little dangerous, as well as both scary and drawn in. Let's be honest, that combination is the best! I remember the first time I saw it as a kid; I was scared to death, but at the same time fascinated, a brutal mix of emotions... with each rewatch, it feels even stronger. There's something timeless about Coraline, mixing fantasy with the hard things about growing up, and that's why it touches your heart no matter how old you are. It's incredible!

And speaking of incredible things, what level of stop-motion animation Laika does! Have you ever stopped to think about the amount of work and courage it takes to bring these characters to life? It's crazy, when you find out that the film has more than 52 sets designed down to the last detail, each one like a separate mini universe, you begin to appreciate the genius that lies behind the cameras, and there is something almost magical about stop-motion, don't you think? Every movement is made by hand, with impressive care... it's a process that requires infinite patience, creativity and the precision of a surgeon. For many, this technique competes head-to-head with the dream worlds of Hayao Miyazaki. Like Miyazaki's heroines, Coraline's journey is a beautiful and challenging adventure that brings you face to face with life's difficulties, but with an elegance that only craftsmanship can achieve, a true gem.

Hola a todos, gran comunidad de Hive, espero que estén genial en el día de hoy, hoy quiero hablarles de una película que se ha convertido en un clásico de culto, es todo lo que está bien y perfecta para verla en Halloween.. díganme si a ustedes no les pasa, pero a mí, después de 15 años, Coraline me sigue atrapando como la primera vez.. es que tiene algo, no sé, como un imán. Esta película sigue dando de qué hablar, es como un acertijo que a los fans como nosotros nos encanta desarmar y volver a armar una y otra vez, cada vez que la veo, ¡pum!, encuentro cositas nuevas, detalles escondidos, simbolismos que nunca terminan de revelarte todos sus secretos.. es como si la peli te dijera “¡Ey, pon atención! ¡Mira bien todo este rollo oscuro y lo increíblemente bien hecho que está cada pedacito!”.. desde que arranca, la atmósfera te envuelve, te mete de cabeza en un mundo raro, medio creepy, pero a la vez fascinante, que se siente mágico y un poco peligroso, así como que te da miedo y te atrae, seamos sinceros, ¡esa combinación es lo máximo! Yo me acuerdo la primera vez que la vi de niño; estaba muerto de miedo, pero al mismo tiempo fascinado, una mezcla de emociones brutal.. con cada vez que la vuelvo a ver, se siente aún más fuerte, es que Coraline tiene algo atemporal, mezcla la fantasía con las cosas duras de crecer, y por eso te llega al corazón sin importar la edad que tengas, es increíble!

Y hablando de cosas increíbles, qué nivel de animación stop-motion se manda Laika! ¿Se han puesto a pensar la cantidad de trabajo y la valentía que se necesita para darle vida a estos personajes? Es una locura, cuando te enteras que la película tiene más de 52 sets diseñados hasta el último detalle, cada uno como un mini universo aparte, empiezas a valorar la genialidad que hay detrás de cámaras, y es que el stop-motion tiene algo casi mágico, ¿no creen? Cada movimiento está hecho a mano, con un cuidado impresionante.. es un proceso que requiere una paciencia infinita, creatividad y una precisión de cirujano. Para muchos, esta técnica le compite de tú a tú a los mundos de ensueño de Hayao Miyazaki, al igual que las heroínas de Miyazaki, el viaje de Coraline es una aventura hermosa y desafiante que te pone de frente a las dificultades de la vida, pero con una elegancia que solo el trabajo artesanal puede lograr, una verdadera joya.

Let's talk about Coraline's visuals, because they're insane. Seriously, I sometimes have to pause the movie just to take in the little details, like the shadows moving across the incredibly carefully designed sets, or the super-subtle expressions on Coraline's face as she goes from astonished to cautious and brave... and not to mention her hair. That detail is top-notch... originally brown, boom!, it turns vibrant blue in the Other World... it's a seemingly small change, but it's a powerful symbol that she wants to be different, that she wants to escape the boring. It's not just an aesthetic whim, no, it's a well-thought-out metaphor for that desire we all have for a life that's more exciting than normal, even if that promise comes with a hidden danger.

But what blows my mind the most about Coraline is that it doesn't allow itself to be pigeonholed into a single genre. It's not a terrifying horror film, although it leaves you with that strange vibe in every scene, like something isn't right... more like a mix of many things: it has a soundtrack that hypnotizes you, ranging from enchantment to melancholy, a story that plays with light and darkness, and that feeling that everything has two sides, which leaves you both uneasy and moved, it's brilliant. There are moments when the film makes you uncomfortable on purpose, with long silences and dialogue measured to create tension. It's as if each strange silence is telling you "Come closer, listen carefully to the secrets that are hidden!"... then there's the depth of the story.

Coraline touches on themes that touch us all: the desire to have something more than what we have, that constant dissatisfaction with what surrounds us. Hablemos de los visuales de Coraline, ¡porque son una locura, en serio, me pasa que a veces tengo que pausar la película solo para quedarme viendo los detallitos, como las sombras que se mueven en los escenarios que están diseñados con un cuidado increíble, o las expresiones súper sutiles en la cara de Coraline, cuando pasa del asombro a estar así como cautelosa y valiente.. y ni hablar del pelo, ¡Lese detalle es top.. originalmente castaño, ¡pum!, se le vuelve azul vibrante en el Otro Mundo.. es un cambio que parece pequeño, pero es un símbolo potente de que ella quiere ser diferente, de que quiere escapar de lo aburrido. No es solo un capricho estético, no, es una metáfora bien pensada sobre ese deseo que todos tenemos de una vida que sea más emocionante que lo normal, aunque esa promesa venga con un peligro escondido.

Pero lo que más me vuela la cabeza de Coraline es que no se deja encasillar en un solo género, no es una película de terror terrorífica, aunque te deja con esa vibra rara en cada escena, como que algo no anda bien.. más bien es como una mezcla de muchas cosas: tiene una banda sonora que te hipnotiza, que va del encanto a la melancolía, una historia que juega con la luz y la oscuridad, y esa sensación de que todo tiene dos caras, que te deja a la vez inquieto y conmovido, es una genial, hay momentos en que la película te incomoda a propósito, con silencios largos y diálogos medidos para crear tensión. Es como si cada silencio raro te dijera “¡Acércate más, escucha con atención los secretos que están escondidos!”.. ddespués está la profundidad de la historia, ¡uff!

Coraline toca temas que nos llegan a todos: las ganas de tener algo más de lo que tenemos, esa insatisfacción constante con lo que nos rodea. ¿Quién no ha soñado alguna vez con escaparse a una vida que parece más mágica, más cercana a lo que realmente deseamos? Pero la película nos recuerda, así suavecito, que no siempre lo de afuera es mejor.. el viaje de Coraline es, al final, sobre crecer, sobre pasar de ser una niña genial pero inmadura a alguien más sabia, más vivida y que se da cuenta de lo valiosa que es la realidad, aunque no sea perfecta.. es un recordatorio agridulce de que, aunque la fantasía puede ser tentadora para escapar, hay belleza en aceptar la vida con todo y sus fallas.

And well, we have to talk about The Other Mother! What a character! Seriously, this villain gets a standing ovation. She's not your typical fairy tale villain; she's like a colorful nightmare, but super enigmatic, you know what I mean? A figure that confuses you because on the outside she's all cute and cheerful, but on the inside she's manipulative and sinister. Her design, with those details that are kind of cute but also creepy, adds another layer of depth to the story. She's a character that makes you wonder what's up with comfort and control. It's like you wonder if it's worth being promised a perfect life if you're going to have to pay with your own soul. Seriously! And just when you think you've got her figured out, she surprises you with something new, keeping you on edge.

And another thing I like about the movie is how they handle the family theme. At the beginning, Coraline is fed up with her parents. Who hasn't been there? That wave of rebellion typical of when you're young and feel like your life at home is hell, that you're not enough... but then, you find yourself in a situation where you have to search for your real parents in the middle of danger. It's a powerful reminder, almost painful, that no matter how weird or flawed our relatives may be, true human connection is priceless. The film focuses on showing you how normality can be a bit boring, but it shouldn't be underestimated.

Y bueno, hay que hablar de La Otra Madre! ¡qué personaje! en serio, esta villana se lleva aplausos, no es la típica mala de cuento, es como una pesadilla a todo color, pero súper enigmática, ¿me entienden? Una figura que te confunde porque por fuera es toda linda y alegre, pero por dentro es manipuladora y siniestra, su diseño, con esos detalles que son como bonitos pero a la vez te dan cosita, le añade otra capa de profundidad a la historia.. es un personaje que te hace pensar en qué onda con la comodidad y el control, como que te preguntas si vale la pena que te prometan una vida perfecta si vas a tener que pagar con tu propia alma, ¡fuerte! Y justo cuando crees que ya la entendiste, te sorprende con algo nuevo, así te mantiene siempre con los pelos de punta..

Y otra cosa que me gusta de la película es cómo manejan el tema de la familia.. al principio, Coraline está harta de sus papás, ¿a quién no le ha pasado? Esa onda de rebeldía típica de cuando eres joven y sientes que tu vida en casa es un infierno, que no es suficiente.. pero luego, se encuentra en una situación donde tiene que buscar a sus papás de verdad en medio del peligro. Es un recordatorio potente, casi te duele, de que por más que nuestros familiares sean medio raritos o tengan sus fallas, la conexión humana verdadera no tiene precio, la peli se enfoca en mostrarte como la normalidad si puede ser algo aburrida, pero no hay que menospreciarla.

Did you know Coraline was going to be more of a musical? Imagine a version with They Might Be Giants songs! Even though they ended up cutting them, the idea alone makes the movie more interesting. And speaking of things we didn’t see, the post-credits scene they cut! It showed the animation process! Seeing a little bit of the behind-the-scenes magic – like the animation of the mice dance, which took months of craftsmanship! – makes you realize the dedication and passion that went into this movie. It’s crazy. It’s a hidden detail that not only tells you something new, but makes you appreciate the art of stop-motion even more. Thinking back on my own story with Coraline, I realize how much my viewing experience has changed over the years… the first time I saw it, I loved how different it was: a dark fairy tale, nothing like the cartoons from my childhood!

Looking at it with adult eyes, I appreciate Coraline much more. You understand all the layers it has and how it touches that fiber we all have of wanting to escape from reality, you see? It's a movie that grows on you, you know, that every time you see it you get a new reading out of it, like those books you adore and always come back to. So, what grade do I give Coraline? Aunque al final las quitaron, solo la idea ya le da un toque más interesante a la peli, y hablando de cosas que no vimos, ¡la escena post-créditos que eliminaron! ¡Mostraban el proceso de animación! Ver un pedacito de la magia detrás de cámaras – como la animación del baile de los ratones, ¡que tomó meses de trabajo artesanal! – te hace darte cuenta de la dedicación y la pasión que le metieron a esta película, una locura, es un detalle escondido que no solo te informa algo nuevo, sino que te hace apreciar aún más el arte del stop-motion, pensando en mi propia historia con Coraline, me doy cuenta de cómo ha cambiado mi forma de verla con los años.. la primera vez que la vi, me gustó lo diferente que era, un cuento de hadas oscuro, ¡nada que ver con los dibujitos animados de mi infancia!

Ahora, viéndola de adulto, aprecio todas las capas de significado y cómo habla de ese deseo que tenemos de escapar de la realidad.. es una película que crece contigo, que te da nuevas interpretaciones cada vez que la ves, como un libro que amas y al que siempre vuelves.. entonces, ¿qué nota le pongo a Coraline? ¡Fácil! ¡Un 9.8/10 bien merecido! Y no solo por lo increíble que se ve o por la historia tan original, sino porque captura esa onda rara y agridulce de crecer.. nos recuerda que aunque la idea de una vida perfecta sea tentadora, la belleza real está en aceptar nuestra vida imperfecta, tal como es.. y siendo sinceros, en el mundo de hoy, ¡este mensaje es más importante que nunca!
