Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing great, this time I want to share with you a new review, I want to talk honestly about the movie: "Green Book" Do you remember that it won the Oscar for Best Picture? Well, I had never seen it haha, and not only that, it also won Best Original Screenplay and Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor... I'll be honest, I went to see it with... let's say, zero expectations, but I ended up completely captivated, at first, I thought it was going to be kind of boring, one of those that you feel you have to see out of obligation, but, seriously, thank goodness I gave it a chance! The craziest thing is that it's a true story... it's about the incredible friendship that arose between Dr. Don Shirley, a classical pianist, but like, super elegant, and African-American, and Tony Lip, a tough guy, Italian-American, I mean, total opposites.

The movie starts in the 60s, and Dr. Shirley is about to start a concert tour through the Deep South of the United States, he needs a driver, someone to also look after him a bit, and that’s where Tony comes in. He’s… let’s say, mildly… interesting… the movie plays a lot with that clash between the two, I read somewhere that they are described as the “gay scholar” versus the “Italian-American beast”, Tony has a New York accent that hooks you, he eats constantly, he folds pizzas in half as if they were sandwiches – and it seems that Viggo Mortensen learned that from the real Tony Lip! – and he’s… well, like very rough… whereas Dr. Shirley is pure class, sophistication, and he talks as if he’s eaten an entire dictionary.

Hola a todos, espero que estén súper bien, en esta ocasión quiero compartir con todos ustedes una nueva reseña, les quiero hablar honestamente dea película: "Green Book" ¿Se acuerdan de que ganó el Oscar a Mejor Película? pues nunca la había visto jaja, y no solo eso, también se llevó el de Mejor Guion Original y Mahershala Ali se ganó el de Mejor Actor de Reparto.. Les soy sincero, entré a verla con... digamos, cero expectativas, pero terminé completamente cautivado, al principio, pensaba que iba a ser medio aburrida, de esas que uno siente que tiene que ver por obligación, pero, en serio, ¡menos mal que le di una oportunidad! lo más loco, que es una historia real.. va de la amistad increíble que surgió entre el Dr. Don Shirley, un pianista clásico, pero así, súper elegante, y afroamericano, y Tony Lip, un tipo rudo, italoamericano, o sea, polos opuestos total.

La película arranca en los años 60, y el Dr. Shirley está por empezar una gira de conciertos por el sur profundo de Estados Unidos, necesita un chofer, alguien que también lo cuide un poco, y ahí es donde aparece Tony él es... digamos, suavemente.. interesante.. la película juega mucho con ese choque entre los dos, por ahí leí que los describen como el "erudito gay" contra el "italoamericano bestia", Tony tiene un acento de Nueva York que te engancha, vive comiendo, dobla las pizzas a la mitad como si fueran sánguches – ¡y parece que eso lo aprendió Viggo Mortensen del Tony Lip de verdad! – y es... así, como muy tosco.. mientras que el Dr. Shirley es pura clase, sofisticación, y habla como si se hubiera comido un diccionario entero.

The acting is out of this world... Viggo Mortensen got into Tony's skin, totally! Then there's Mahershala Ali, who is pure elegance, a great actor... he gives Dr. Shirley a dignity and vulnerability that touches your soul, I swear, you feel the weight of the world on his shoulders, the loneliness he carries, even though he's a successful guy. Viggo did great, his physical transformation was crazy, thank goodness I saw it with subtitles, because his way of imitating the New York accent, mixed with Italian... brutal! The best of all is that the movie is not a heavy and boring drama, one of those that give you lessons... It's super funny! A lot of the laughter comes from the contrast between Tony and Dr. Shirley, their different ways of seeing life, their constant fights and jokes, there's a scene where Tony wants to teach Dr. Shirley about "real" Italian food, and it's pure gold!

But, in the midst of the laughter, the film brings you face to face with the brutal reality of racism in the American South in the 60s. I thought the film was going to be melodramatic, one of those that talks about serious issues and that's it, but nothing like that, that's where the title, "Green Book" comes in. It refers to a real guide that African-American travelers used at that time. It listed the hotels, restaurants and businesses that did serve black people. It's a hard blow to remember how segregated and full of prejudices things were, it's infuriating. You have this whole issue of racism in the background, but at its core, excuse the redundancy, it's a story of friendship. It's about these two guys, who are different, learning to put aside their prejudices, their preconceived ideas, and truly connecting as human beings. And that their friendship lasted more than 50 years in real life? That gives another perspective to the film.

Las actuaciones son de otro planeta.. Viggo Mortensen, se metió en la piel de Tony, ¡totalmente! después está Mahershala Ali, que es pura elegancia, un señor actorazo.. le da al Dr. Shirley una dignidad y una vulnerabilidad que te llegan al alma, te lo juro, sientes el peso del mundo en sus hombros, la soledad que carga, aunque sea un tipo exitoso.Viggo lo hizo genial, su transformación física fue una locura, menos mal que la vi con subtítulos, porque su forma de imitar el acento neoyorquino, mezclado con italiano... ¡brutal! lo mejor de todo es que la película no es un drama pesado y aburrido, de esos que te dan lecciones.. Es súper divertida! gran parte de la risa viene del contraste entre Tony y el Dr. Shirley, sus formas distintas de ver la vida, sus peleas y bromas constantes, hay una escena donde Tony le quiere enseñar al Dr. Shirley sobre la comida italiana "de verdad", ¡y es oro puro!

Pero, en medio de la risa, la película te pone de frente a la realidad brutal del racismo en el sur de Estados Unidos en los años 60.. yo pensé que la película iba a ser melodramática, de esas que te hablan de temas serios y ya, pero nada que ver, aahí es donde entra el título, "Green Book". Se refiere a una guía real que usaban los viajeros afroamericanos en esa época.. ahí aparecían los hoteles, restaurantes y negocios que sí atendían a gente negra. Es un golpe duro para recordar lo segregadas y llenas de prejuicios que eran las cosas, da rabia.. tienes todo este tema del racismo como fondo, pero en el fondo, valga la redundancia, es una historia de amistad.. se trata de estos dos tipos, que son diferentes, aprendiendo a dejar de lado sus prejuicios, sus ideas preconcebidas, y conectando de verdad como seres humanos. ¿Y que su amistad duró más de 50 años en la vida real? Eso da otra perspectiva a la película.

The film does touch on the subject of racism, yes, but with an honesty that I thought was ideal. It's not like they're giving you a sermon or rubbing it in your face all the time... it shows you how things were, but what matters most is how the characters evolve. What I really liked about the script is that it lets the actors and the characters they play create funny, interesting moments that let you see how they change. One thing I really appreciated is that the film doesn't hide the ugliest truth... it shows you discrimination just like that, the humiliating situations that Dr. Shirley had to go through, just for being black. There were times when I really clenched my fists in rage, feeling a mix of indignation and shame that such hatred existed, and that in a way, it still exists... it's hard, it makes you feel angry and sorry at the same time, knowing that such racism really happened.

But, like I was saying, the movie balances that darkness with a lot of warmth and humor. It never feels like you're being lectured or anything forced, all thanks to the incredible performances. You really get attached to these two guys, you care about what happens to them and you want to see them do well. Now, to be honest, there were a couple of things that didn't quite add up for me. There were some scenes that were a little fake and unnecessary, maybe a little over the top, yeah, I get that. There's one scene, in particular, with Mahershala Ali, in the rain, where he's basically screaming all his frustration, all his pain, I get what they were trying to achieve, it's supposed to be like an emotional explosion, but to me it just felt a little... forced? I don't know, maybe that's just me. I watched it, and I thought "oh, they went a little too far here." But hey, that's just my opinion.

La película toca el tema del racismo, sí, pero con una honestidad que me pareció ideal, no es que te estén dando un sermón ni restregándotelo en la cara a cada rato.. te muestra cómo eran las cosas, pero lo que más importa es cómo evolucionan los personajes. lo que sí me gustó mucho del guion es que deja que los actores y los personajes que hacen, creen momentos cómicos, interesantes, que te dejan ver cómo van cambiando. Una cosa que de verdad valoré es que la película no oculta la verdad más fea.. te muestra la discriminación así, tal cual, las situaciones humillantes que el Dr. Shirley tuvo que pasar, solo por ser negro. Hubo momentos en los que de verdad apretaba los puños de rabia, sintiendo una mezcla de indignación y vergüenza de que ese odio existiera, y que en cierta forma, todavía existe.. es duro, te da como rabia y lástima a la vez, saber que ese racismo pasó de verdad.

Pero, como les decía, la película equilibra esa oscuridad con un montón de calidez y humor.. nunca se siente como que te están dando una lección ni nada forzado, todo eso, gracias a las actuaciones increíbles. Uno de verdad se encariña con estos dos tipos, te importa lo que les pasa y quieres que les vaya bien.. ahora, siendo sinceros, hubo un par de cositas que no me cuadraron del todo. Hay algunas escenas eran un poco falsas e innecesarias, quizás un toque exageradas, sí, la verdad es que lo entiendo. Hay una escena, en particular, con Mahershala Ali, bajo la lluvia, donde básicamente está gritando toda su frustración, todo su dolor, entiendo lo que querían lograr, se supone que es como una explosión emocional, pero a mí se me hizo un poco… ¿forzado? No sé, tal vez y soy yo nomás.. yo la vi, y pensé "uy, acá se les fue un poquito la mano". Pero bueno, esa es solo mi opinión.

The ending feels kind of predictable, too perfect, like everything ended up very nicely... and maybe it's not the most original ending in the world, but to me, the truth is, it didn't seem bad, it does feel weird... but I just wanted to see them happy, you know what I mean? In the end, the movie is more about how things are done, than about the things that happen themselves... "Green Book" is a movie that gives you hope, it reminds you that even when there is hatred and prejudice everywhere, friendship and understanding can get through. It's a message about overcoming our differences, seeing ourselves as people, and believing that we can build a better world, it leaves you with that rich, cool feeling, but it also makes you think a little bit... It depends a lot on each perception, and how you connect with the topics discussed here... I give "Green Book" an 8.5/10, it's incredibly emotional, funny, and in the end, it lifts your spirits... It surprised me a lot, it killed me with laughter and touched my heart, I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it! El final se siente medio predecible, demasiado perfecto, como que todo cerró muy bonito.. y puede ser, no es el final más original del mundo, pero a mí, la verdad, no me resultó malo, si se siente raro.. pero yo solo quería verlos felices, ¿me entienden? Al final, la película se trata más de cómo se hacen las cosas, que de las cosas que pasan en sí.. "Green Book" es una película que te da esperanza, te recuerda que incluso cuando hay odio y prejuicios por todos lados, la amistad y el entendimiento pueden salir adelante. Es un mensaje sobre superar nuestras diferencias, vernos como personas, y creer que podemos construir un mundo mejor, te deja con esa sensación rica, chévere, pero también te pone a pensar un poquito.. Depende mucho de cada percepción, y de cómo conectes con les temas que se tratan aqui.. le doy a "Green Book" un 8.5/10, es increíblemente emotiva, divertida, y al final, te levanta el ánimo.. A mí me sorprendió un montón, me mató de risa y me tocó el corazón, se más recomiendo si no la han visto!
