Well, The Fall Guy is exactly that. The first thing to understand is that this movie is a love letter, a giant, sincere hug to the entire stunt industry. And who better to direct this tribute than David Leitch, a guy who, before directing blockbusters like Atomic Blonde or Bullet Train, did just that: he was a stuntman. His experience, folks, shows in every second. You can tell he knows what he's talking about, that he has enormous respect for this job, and that he wanted to pay them the tribute they deserve. There's a scene in the movie where Ryan Gosling's character is asked if stunts win Oscars, and he says not at all. And it's crazy, because they really should have their own category. This movie makes it crystal clear: they are the glue that holds the industry together, the unsung heroes who risk their necks to make the stars look spectacular. Speaking of stars, let's talk about Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

Look, if science doesn't exist in this movie, they more than make up for it with chemistry! It's incredible; they act so relaxed, so natural, that you completely believe their story. He's Colt Seavers, a top-tier stuntman who, after an accident that almost costs him his career, steps away from everything, including Jody Moreno (Blunt), a camera operator he had a thing with. Now, a year later, Jody is directing her first big movie, a massive sci-fi flick, and the main actor, played by a brilliant Aaron Taylor Johnson, has disappeared. The producer, in a desperate move, calls Colt to get him back on set and, while he's at it, find the missing star. So there you have it: our stuntman has to juggle working with his ex, trying to win her back, and, on top of all that, solving a criminal mystery.

Hola, espero que esten super bien hoy, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, en esta ocasion, les quiero hablar un poco de una peli genial, la ví de nuevo recientemente y quería contarles que me pareció, se trata de The Fall Guy y tengo que serles honesto, iba con las expectativas medio bajas, más que nada porque creo que vi el tráiler como 800 veces antes de poder ver la bendita película.. pero, de verdad, necesitaba una peli así. Antes de clavarme de lleno, quiero sincerarme con ustedes.. en un mundo lleno de universos cinematográficos, secuelas interminables y películas que se toman a sí mismas demasiado en serio, a veces a uno se le olvida lo que es ir al cine nomás a pasarla bien.. a salir con esa sonrisa de menso en la cara, sintiendo que acabas de ver algo hecho con puro, puro amor al cine.

Pues bueno, The Fall Guy es exactamente eso, lo primero que hay que entender es que esta película es una carta de amor, un abrazo gigante y bien sincero para toda la industria de los dobles de riesgo, los stunts.. quién mejor para dirigir este homenaje que David Leitch, un tipo que antes de dirigir peliculones como Atomic Blonde o Bullet Train, a eso se dedicaba: era un doble de riesgo.. su experiencia, gente, se nota en cada segundo. Se nota que sabe de lo que está hablando, que le tiene un respeto enorme a esta chamba y que quería rendirles el tributo que se merecen, hay una escena en la película donde al personaje de Ryan Gosling le preguntan si los stunts ganan un Oscar, y él contesta que para nada. Y es una locura, porque de verdad deberían tener su propia categoría.. esta película te lo deja clarísimo, son el pegamento que mantiene unida a la industria, los héroes anónimos que se juegan el pellejo para que las estrellas se vean espectaculares.. hablando de estrellas, hablemos de Ryan Gosling y Emily Blunt.

Miren, si la ciencia no existe en esta película, ¡la química les sobra! Es que es increíble, actúan tan relajados, tan naturales, que te crees por completo su historia.. él es Colt Seavers, un doble de riesgo súper pro que, después de un accidente que casi le cuesta la carrera, se aleja de todo, incluida Jody Moreno (Blunt), una operadora de cámara con la que tuvo su onda. Ahora, un año después, Jody está dirigiendo su primera gran película, una de ciencia ficción a lo grande, y el actor principal, interpretado por un genial Aaron Taylor Johnson, desapareció. La productora, en una jugada desesperada, le habla a Colt para que vuelva al set y, de paso, encuentre a la estrella perdida.. así que ahí lo tienen: nuestro doble de riesgo tiene que hacer malabares para volver a trabajar con su ex, intentar reconquistarla y, encima de todo, resolver un misterio criminal.

And that mix, folks, is the heart of the movie. At its core, it's a romantic comedy, but bathed in tons of spectacular action with a mystery plot woven in. Gosling and Blunt's relationship is what drives everything. That push and pull they have, their little fights, their glances... you believe it completely. There's a scene where they're arguing with megaphones in the middle of the set, with extras dressed as aliens in the background... you just burst out laughing, it's brilliant. The movie knows when to get serious with the romance and when to poke fun at the craziness of a film shoot.

You buy into their story, you want them to end up together, and that's key to getting you hooked on the whole ride. And what a ride it is, my friends. Being an 87North production, Leitch's company, you can already imagine that the action scenes are on another level. There are a ton of stunts, and they all look brutal. Car jumps, hand-to-hand combat, falls from dizzying heights... it has it all. The best part is that Ryan Gosling himself does a good portion of his own stunts, and that gives it incredible authenticity. The movie is also super smart in how it weaves Colt's skills as a stuntman into the plot.

It's not just that he knows how to fight; it's that he knows how a set works, how a stunt is prepared, how to anticipate a punch. One of my favorite scenes, which shows you how clever the script is, is when he runs into a former scene partner who turns out to be a dog, a Belgian Malinois trained for stunts. Since Colt has worked with him before, he knows exactly what commands to give to have the dog help him out of a really nasty jam. The idea is fantastic and the execution is hilarious and brilliant. The film is also super meta, constantly winking at itself. It’s a movie about people making a movie, and it's full of filmmaking terms and Hollywood inside jokes. For someone like me, this was a delight. Maybe some will find it a bit much, but for me, that's part of the magic.

Y es que esa mezcla, gente, es el corazón de la película.. en el fondo, es una comedia romántica, pero bañada en un montón de acción espectacular y con una trama de misterio por ahí, la relación de Gosling y Blunt es lo que mueve todo. Ese tire y afloje que tienen, sus peleítas, sus miradas... te la crees completita, hay una escena donde se están peleando con megáfonos en medio de todo el set, con extras vestidos de aliens atrás... es que te partes de la risa, es genial. La peli sabe cuándo ponerse seria con el romance y cuándo burlarse de las locuras que se viven en un rodaje.. compras su historia, quieres que terminen juntos, y eso es clave para que te enganches con todo el viaje.

Y qué viaje, amigos.. siendo una producción de 87 North, la compañía de Leitch, ya se pueden imaginar que las escenas de acción están a otro nivel, hay un montón de acrobacias, y todas se ven brutales. Saltos en coche, peleas cuerpo a cuerpo, caídas de alturas que te dan vértigo... tiene de todo.. lo mejor de todo es que el mismo Ryan Gosling hace buena parte de sus acrobacias, y eso le da una autenticidad increíble, la película, además, es súper inteligente en cómo mete las habilidades de Colt, el doble de riesgo, en la trama.

No es solo que sepa pelear; es que sabe cómo funciona un set, cómo se prepara una acrobacia, cómo anticipar un golpe.. una de mis escenas favoritas, que te demuestra lo ingenioso que es el guion, es cuando se topa con un antiguo compañero de escena que resulta ser un perro, un pastor belga entrenado para hacer acrobacias.. como Colt ya ha trabajado con él, sabe exactamente qué órdenes darle para que el perrito lo ayude a salir de un problemón bien feo. La idea es fantástica y la ejecución es divertidísima y brillante, la película también es súper meta, se la pasa haciéndose guiños a sí misma. Es una película sobre gente haciendo una película, y está llena de términos de rodaje y chistes internos de Hollywood.. para alguien como yo, esto fue una delicia.. a lo mejor a algunos se les hace un poco pesado, pero para mí, eso es parte de la magia.

The opening scene, for example, is one of my favorite opening scenes ever. It's a long take, a single, continuous shot that follows Gosling as he prepares for an epic stunt. The camera doesn't leave his side for a second as he checks every safety measure and talks to his team, all while communicating via walkie-talkie with Emily Blunt's character. It's a brilliant way to introduce us to the characters, the vibe between them, and the tone of the whole movie. Now, let's be honest. Is it perfect? Well, not entirely. The missing actor plot, especially at the beginning, can be a bit confusing. You jump from one situation to another, and at first, I had a little trouble connecting with that part of the story. Sometimes, the movie seems so focused on the on-set comedy and romance that the mystery part feels a bit forced.

In the first half, there are moments where the characters face life-or-death situations, but they don't seem to take them very seriously, and that lowers the tension a bit. I caught myself thinking, "Hey, buddy, they just tried to kill you, shouldn't you be a little more scared?" However, and this is where the movie's magic lies, from the halfway point on, the plot really picks up steam and everything starts to fit together more naturally. The humor, action, and charisma of the leads are so brutal that they make you forgive these minor details. The movie is a little over two hours long, but I swear the pacing is so good that it flies by; you don't even feel it.

La escena con la que arranca, por ejemplo, es de mis escenas de inicio favoritas.. un plano secuencia, o sea, una sola toma larguísima que sigue a Gosling mientras se prepara para una acrobacia épica, la cámara no se le despega ni un segundo mientras él checa cada medida de seguridad y habla con su equipo, todo mientras se comunica por el walkie-talkie con el personaje de Emily Blunt. Es una forma genial de presentarnos a los personajes, la onda que se traen entre ellos y el tono de toda la película.. ahora, seamos sinceros. ¿Es perfecta? Pues no, no del todo. La trama del actor desaparecido, sobre todo al principio, puede ser medio confusa, saltas de una situación a otra y al inicio me costó un poco conectarme con esa parte de la historia, a veces, la película parece tan clavada en la comedia y el romance en el set, que la parte del misterio se siente un poco metida a la fuerza.

En la primera mitad, hay momentos en los que los personajes se enfrentan a situaciones de vida o muerte, pero como que no se lo toman muy en serio, y eso le baja un poco a la tensión.. me caché pensando: "oye, compadre, te acaban de intentar matar, ¿no deberías estar un poquito más asustado?". Sin embargo, y aquí está la magia de la película, a partir de la mitad, la trama agarra muchísimo ritmo y todo empieza a encajar de una forma más natural.. el humor, la acción y el carisma de los protagonistas son tan brutales que te hacen perdonarle estos pequeños detallitos. La película dura un poco más de dos horas, pero les juro que el ritmo es tan bueno que se te pasa volando, ni la sientes.

Oh, and an important tip: stay until the very end of the credits. It's not just a post-credits scene; it's a beautiful tribute to the entire stunt team that made the movie. It's something you have to see and respect. In the end, The Fall Guy is one of those rare gems you hardly see anymore. Yes, it's based on an 80s series, but let's be honest, most young people don't even know it, so in many ways, it feels like a super original idea. It's a big-budget movie that doesn't seem concerned with building a franchise or a universe.

It's a well-rounded, fun, and spectacular story. It feels like a return to those action movies of the 80s and 90s, like Lethal Weapon or Rush Hour, which knew how to perfectly blend action, comedy, and the charisma of their leads. Even though it's set in the present day, with cell phones and modern technology, it has that classic vibe, that feeling of cinema meant for you to disconnect and just enjoy on a giant screen. It's a feel-good movie that excites you and makes you laugh in equal measure. My entire theater applauded at the end. My final rating would be an 8.5/10. It loses that half point because the mystery plot takes a little while to get going, but everything else—the chemistry, the action, the humor, the clever script, and above all, the heart it has—is done to perfection. Ah, y un dato importante: quédense hasta el final de los créditos.. no es solo una escena post-créditos, es un homenaje precioso para todo el equipo de dobles de riesgo que hizo la película.. es algo que tienen que ver y respetar. Al final, The Fall Guy es una de esas joyitas raras que ya casi no se ven.. sí, está basada en una serie de los 80, pero seamos sinceros, la mayoría de la gente joven ni la topa, así que en muchos sentidos se siente como una idea súper original, es una película con un montón de presupuesto que no parece preocupada por armar una franquicia o un universo.

Es una historia redondita, divertida y espectacular.. se siente como un regreso a esas películas de acción de los 80 y 90, como Arma Mortal o Una Pareja Explosiva, que sabían mezclar perfecto la acción, la comedia y el carisma de sus protas.. aunque pasa en la actualidad, con celulares y tecnología moderna, tiene esa vibra clásica, esa sensación de cine para desconectarte y solo disfrutar en una pantalla gigante.. Es una película que te hace sentir bien, que te emociona y te hace reír a partes iguales, toda mi sala aplaudió al final, mi calificación final sería un 8.5/10. Pierde ese medio punto porque la trama del misterio tarda un poquito en arrancar, pero todo lo demás —la química, la acción, el humor, el guion inteligente y, sobre todo, ese corazón que tiene— está hecho a la perfección.. quiero ver más películas así.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, nos vemos en las próximas reseñas, byebye!
