Hello everyone, dear friends of Hive, fans of good stories, I hope you're doing great today. On this occasion, I want to share a new review with you. I'll be talking a bit about the movie: The Outrun and... wow... I watched it for one reason, and I think it's the same reason as almost everyone else: Saoirse Ronan... I mean, come on, she's one of those actresses who NEVER lets you down. It's like when you see Cate Blanchett on the poster, you already know that, at the very least, the acting is going to be incredible... but what she does in this film... is on another level... seriously, forget everything you've seen her in before. This is, by far, her rawest performance; this is a much denser, more adult role that I honestly don't think she could have pulled off before. You can feel how her entire career, since she was a child, has prepared her for this moment, for this devastating character... because the film, at its core, is about addiction and sobriety. Ronan plays Rona, a young woman struggling with alcoholism... yeah, I know, it sounds like the typical story we've seen a thousand times, right?

But the way they tell it here feels... ugh, super personal, super raw. The movie doesn't pull any punches in showing you the ugliest parts of the disease. There are scenes where Rona is the life of the party, magnetic, charismatic... and from one second to the next, boom!, a switch flips and she becomes violent, a danger to herself and others... I swear, it's uncomfortable to watch because it feels too real. But what really got to me was the script's honesty about recovery... it perfectly shows you how exhausting that journey is. It's not the classic story of 'you hit rock bottom and then everything gets better'... not at all. It's a vicious cycle of falling and getting up, and falling again and getting up again, over and over. There are lines of dialogue that stuck with me... in a group therapy session, Rona admits she misses how alcohol made her feel, that euphoria, that false joy. And another character drops a line that is... brutally honest: "This never gets easy, it just gets less difficult." That line gave me goosebumps because it feels real, it feels like something you'd hear in a real conversation, not something out of a screenwriter's handbook. It's an unfiltered portrait of what it's like to fight to stay sober every single damn day.

Hola a todos, queridos amigos de Hive, fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén super bien hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les hablaré un poco de la película: The Outrun y... wow.. la ví por un razón, y creo que es la misma razón de casi todos: Saoirse Ronan.. es que, a ver, ella es de esas actrices que no te fallan NUNCA. Es como cuando ves en el póster a Cate Blanchett, ya sabes que, como mínimo, la actuación va a estar increíble.. pero lo que hace en esta película... es otro nivel.. o sea, olvídense de todo lo que le han visto antes. De lejos, es la actuación más cruda, este es un papel mucho más denso, más adulto, que honestamente no creo que hubiera podido hacer antes. Sientes cómo toda su carrera, desde que era una niña, la preparó para este momento, para este personaje tan devastador.. porque la película, en el fondo, va de la adicción y la sobriedad, Ronan hace de Rona, una chica que lucha contra el alcoholismo.. sí, ya sé, suena a la típica historia que hemos visto mil veces, ¿no?

Pero la manera en que lo cuentan aquí se siente... ufff, súper personal, súper cruda. La película no se anda con rodeos para mostrarte lo más feo de la enfermedad, hay escenas donde Rona es el alma de la fiesta, magnética, carismática... y de un segundo a otro, ¡pum!, se prende un switch y se vuelve violenta, un peligro para ella y para los demás.. te juro que es incómodo de ver, porque se siente demasiado real. Pero lo que de verdad me mató fue la honestidad del guion sobre la recuperación.. te muestra perfecto lo agotador que es ese viaje, no es la clásica historia de ‘tocas fondo y luego todo mejora’.. para nada. Es un círculo vicioso, es caerte y levantarte, y volver a caer y volverte a levantar, una y otra vez, hay diálogos que se me quedaron grabados.. en una terapia de grupo, Rona admite que extraña cómo la hacía sentir el alcohol, esa euforia, esa alegría falsa. Y otro personaje le suelta una frase que es... brutalmente honesta: "esto nunca se vuelve fácil, solo se vuelve menos difícil".. se me puso la piel de gallina con esa línea, porque se siente real, se siente como algo que escucharías en una conversación de verdad, no algo sacado de un manual para guionistas, es un retrato sin filtros de lo que es pelear por mantenerse sobrio cada maldito día.

Okay, and check this out, because the way the story is told is insane, but it might throw you off at first. It's not told in order, not at all... we're constantly jumping between Rona's present as she tries to recover; flashbacks to her childhood; and the darkest days of her addiction in London. At first, it's a bit like, "what's happening?", but the film gives you a super, super smart visual cue so you know what moment you're in: Rona's hair color. It's a subtle but brilliant detail. If it's blue, a deep blue, you know she's sunk in her addiction. If she only has blue tips and her roots have grown out, she's in a period of sobriety, putting in the effort... if she's blonde, it's another stage of her life. This small detail trusts you to pay attention and follow her on her journey through her performance and this clue... it's literally telling a story in full color. And then there's the setting. Oh my God, the setting!

The film takes place in the Orkney Islands, north of Scotland, and the place is a character in itself... it's not just a pretty backdrop, it's a wild, harsh, unforgiving landscape, but with a brutal, dramatic beauty. Rona has an almost spiritual connection to this place... the way she stands on the cliffs, feeling the full force of nature, is a perfect reflection of her own internal storm. And the sound design here is key; the howling wind and the crashing waves aren't just noise; they're the gauge of her mood and her struggle... when she is at peace, nature seems calm.

When she's in crisis, the wind and the sea roar with her. It's a super powerful visual and auditory combination that completely immerses you in her journey... sometimes you feel like you're on another planet, a place as beautiful as it is harsh. Even the title, The Outrun, has a ton of layers, and that fascinated me... an "outrun" is literally a grazing area, which connects to the rural environment of the Orkneys... but, obviously, it also refers to Rona trying to leave her past behind, like "outrunning" her demons. I did a little research and discovered that "Outrun" is also a type of music, and there are moments when Rona puts on her headphones and gets lost in it to find herself, to carve out her own space in the world... everything comes together in a super poetic way.

A ver, y ojo con esto, porque la forma en que está contada la historia es una locura, pero al principio te puede sacar de onda, no te la cuentan en orden, para nada.. vamos saltando todo el tiempo entre el presente de Rona, cuando intenta recuperarse; flashbacks a su niñez; y los días más oscuros de su adicción en Londres. Al principio es un poco como, ¿qué está pasando?, pero la película te da una clave visual súper, súper inteligente para que sepas en qué momento estás: el color de pelo de Rona.. es un detalle sutil pero brillante, si lo tiene azul, un azul intenso, sabes que está hundida en la adicción. Si solo tiene las puntas azules y la raíz ya le creció, está en un período de sobriedad, echándole ganas.. si es rubia, es otra etapa de su vida, este pequeño detalle confía en que tú pongas atención y la sigas en su viaje a través de su actuación y esta pista.. es, literal, contarte una historia a todo color. Y luego está el escenario. ¡Dios mío, el escenario!

La película se desarrolla en las Islas Orcadas, al norte de Escocia, y el lugar es un personaje más.. no es solo un fondo bonito, es un paisaje salvaje, rudo, que no perdona, pero con una belleza dramática brutal, Rona tiene una conexión casi espiritual con este lugar.. la forma en que se para en los acantilados, sintiendo toda la fuerza de la naturaleza, es un reflejo perfecto de su propia tormenta interna. Y aquí el diseño de sonido es clave, el aullido del viento y el golpe de las olas no son solo ruido; son el medidor de su estado de ánimo y su lucha.. cuando ella está en paz, la naturaleza parece tranquila.

Cuando está en crisis, el viento y el mar rugen con ella, es una combinación visual y auditiva súper poderosa que te sumerge por completo en su viaje.. a veces sientes que estás en otro planeta, un lugar tan hermoso como duro. Hasta el título, The Outrun, tiene un montón de capas, y eso me fascinó.. un "outrun" es, literalmente, una zona de pastoreo, lo que conecta con el ambiente rural de las Orcadas.. pero, obvio, también se refiere a que Rona está intentando dejar atrás su pasado, como "correr más rápido" que sus demonios, me puse a investigar un poco y descubrí que "Outrun" también es un tipo de música, y hay momentos en que Rona se pone los audífonos y se pierde en ella para encontrarse, para hacerse su propio espacio en el mundo.. todo cierra de una manera súper poética.

And check this out, which I thought was brilliant: the way Rona tries to recover... she has a scientific mind, with a master's degree in biology and everything, something you find out and you're like, what!? And she uses it; she tries to use her "scientific brain" to analyze herself, to fix herself, as if she were a problem that can be solved with a method. She uses nature, the birds, the marine life, as a map to understand herself and to find meaning in everything... it's a super original way to see a character in a recovery story. And the relationships in the film... ugh, they break your heart with how real they are... her boyfriend, played incredibly by Paapa Essiedu, desperately wants to be there for her, but she herself makes it impossible. You feel his pain, his frustration... you also get glimpses of her family: her dad's mental illness, her super religious mom...

The film doesn't throw it in your face, but it subtly weaves in how this family history of alcoholism has affected her, adding a layer of intergenerational trauma that gives it a brutal depth... it's not very well-known... that might put it at a bit of a disadvantage, but the performance is so, so good that I think it could become a favorite for many... The Outrun is an intense film, difficult to watch at times, but one that leaves you with a lot in the end. It's dark, yes, but it also has its moments of humor and a breathtaking beauty... everything is held up by one of the best performances of the year, one that I swear makes you feel Rona's alcohol-laced breath through the screen and breaks your heart while you're rooting for her to find peace.

I'm giving it a 9/10. Look, it's not an "easy" film, it's not something to watch to just pass the time, and its slow pace and density might not appeal to some... but for me, the mix of Nora Fingscheidt's poetic direction, the stunning cinematography, and, above all, the MONUMENTAL performance by Saoirse Ronan, elevates it to another level. If you're a fan of Ronan, it's a must-see. If you like deep, unfiltered character stories, I recommend it wholeheartedly... and well, that's it for today's review, I hope you liked it! Y ojo con esto, que me pareció genial: la forma en que Rona intenta recuperarse.. ella tiene una mente científica, con un máster en biología y todo, algo que te enteras y dices ¿¡qué!? Y lo usa, intenta usar su "cerebro científico" para analizarse, para arreglarse, como si fuera un problema que puede resolver con un método, usa la naturaleza, los pájaros, la vida marina, como un mapa para entenderse a sí misma y encontrarle un sentido a todo.. es una forma súper original de ver a un personaje en una historia de recuperación. Y las relaciones en la película… uff, te rompen el corazón de lo reales que son.. su novio, que lo hace increíble Papa Essiedu, de verdad, desesperadamente quiere estar ahí para ella, pero ella misma se lo hace imposible, sientes su dolor, su frustración.. también te dan pinceladas de su familia: la enfermedad mental de su papá, la mamá súper religiosa…

La película no te lo avienta en la cara, pero va tejiendo muy fino cómo toda esa historia de alcoholismo en su familia la ha afectado a ella, metiéndole una capa de trauma que pasa de generación en generación que le da una profundidad brutal.. no es muy popular.. eso la puede dejar un poco en desventaja, pero la actuación es tan, pero tan buena, que yo creo que puede convertirse en la favorita de muchos.. The Outrun es una película intensa, a ratos difícil de ver, pero que al final te deja muchísimo, es oscura, sí, pero también tiene sus momentos de humor y una belleza que te deja sin aire.. todo se sostiene en una de las mejores actuaciones del año, una que te juro que te hace sentir el aliento a alcohol de Rona a través de la pantalla y te rompe el corazón mientras le echas porras para que encuentre paz.

Le voy a dar un 9/10. A ver, no es una película "fácil", no es para ir a pasar el rato, y su ritmo lento y lo densa que es puede que a algunos no les guste.. pero para mí, la mezcla de la dirección poética de Nora Fingscheidt, la fotografía impresionante y, sobre todo, la actuación MONUMENTAL de Saoirse Ronan, la elevan a otro nivel, si son fans de Ronan, es obligatoria, si les gustan las historias de personajes profundas, sin filtros, se las recomiendo con los ojos cerrados.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, espero que les haya gustado!
