. Introduction :

And Just Like That... is an American comedy-drama streaming television limited series developed by Michael Patrick King for HBO Max. It is a 10-episode revival of the HBO television series Sex and the City created by Darren Star, which is based on Candace Bushnell's newspaper column and 1996 book anthology of the same name. Set 11 years after the events of the 2010 film Sex and the City 2, the series stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Willie Garson, Evan Handler, and Chris Noth, with all reprising roles from the original series, and Sara Ramirez and Sarita Choudhury as new characters.

Development for the series began in December 2020, following the cancellation of a third film adaptation. It was given a straight-to-series order in January 2021 by HBO Max. Casting announcements were made throughout 2021 and filming started in July 2021 in New York City.

And Just Like That... premiered on HBO Max on December 9, 2021, with mixed-to-negative reviews. The series finale was released on February 3, 2022.

Critical response:
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 49% approval rating with an average rating of 5.50/10 based on 74 critic reviews. The website's critics consensus reads, "And Just Like That... fails to recapture Sex and the City's heady fizz, but like a fine wine, these characters have developed subtler depths with age."Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 55 out of 100 based on 33 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

The New York Times review, while stating that the show "in moments is very good," described it as "painful" and "part dramedy about heartbreak, part awkward bid at relevance," writing "when you are [reviving] a series there is the fatal danger of losing your touch. And there you have 'And Just Like That'."

The themes of diversity and social justice were criticized. The Telegraph described it as "tediously woke", and the Radio Times wrote: "The main three's newfound social and cultural awareness is shoe-horned in to such a degree the whole endeavour feels often cloying.'' Deadline Hollywood wrote that "far too many 2021 cultural touchstones and new characters are awkwardly parachuted into [the show] ... as if to check a box". EmpireOnline added: "the attempts to paint a rich, real, diverse world are ham-fisted, inauthentic and riddled with self-consciousness, awkwardness and moments of self-congratulation. Specifically, the character of Che Díaz was derided heavily online and has been considered to be one of the worst characters on television with Buzzfeed claiming the character has ruined the show. Kristin Corry of Vice Media criticized the tokenization of black characters, writing "The ‘Sex and the City’ reboot wants to undo its colorblind legacy by including Black characters. Unfortunately, they’re treated as luxury accessories." 🔗
. My Opinion :
I was anxious to see the premiere of this series which, incidentally is the only one in history that after being a series, went to the movies and is back on TV again. And although obviously after 25 years of watching the series... The death of Carrie's husband, the main character, affected and impressed me, I love the series. Since before the premiere it wasn't normal the articles about how much the main characters have changed (aged) and I thought "my God but how misogynistic" is it a crime to age? Or is it a fear that the series presents us as a mirror and we don't like the reflection?

"With this theme in mind, there have been unnecessary criticisms such as the age that the main characters are now. Before the premiere of the show, Sarah Jessica Parker commented on this situation, making it clear that these comments are pure misogyny. Now it's the turn of the show's other star, Kristin Davis.
In an interview with The Times, the actress who plays Charlotte showed her anger at the new wave of comments about the age of the cast.

"Everyone wants to comment, pro or con or whatever, about our hair and our faces and our this and our that. I feel angry and I don't want to feel angry all the time, so I don't look at it, I just know it's there," the actress stressed. "I also feel, I'm going to be frank, I feel like, 'For you, screw you, people, come over here and make it better.' You know what I mean? Like, what are you doing?" she added angrily.Vogue interviewed Sarah Jessica Parker about And Just Like That and the actress didn't hold back any words. "There's a lot of misogynistic talk about us that we would never hear about a man," Parker wielded. "He's got gray hair, he's got gray hair. I'm sitting with Andy Cohen (American presenter), he's got a full head of gray hair and he's perfect. Why is it validating for him? I don't know what to tell people" exemplified the actress."🔗🔗

And the misogyny doesn't end there from a campaign for "poor Steve" who is treated like a fool by his wife (Cynthia Nixon) to the relentless push for the return of the hypersexual Samantha Jones character played by actress Kim. Catral who is currently 62 years old... I can just imagine the outpouring of derision if she doesn't appear looking 15 on screen.

They have criticized everything: the inclusion of characters of color, when previously the problem was that the show was "too white", they also don't seem to like the open approach to the current lgbtq+ issues, like the "so who understands them? In the midst of 2022.

And yet the ratings didn't disappoint, people seem to comment.... But they don't stop watching. morbid?. As for me, with my 42 years, this series has made me realize how young I am! Me and digest better painful issues such as death and loneliness so common in recent years with the pandemic.

I also think it is beautiful the progression and maturity, childishness and all the nuances of these women that show that YES there is life after 50,60 and as long as we breathe.

I then decided to investigate if there is something called "fear of aging" in (or simply as a society we are banal and superficial) and I found this: > "Gerascophobia is the irrational fear of aging. In its development, the current negative image of what it means to be an elderly person is involved. The passage of time has always been a concern for human beings.
In this way, a cultural factor based on the current negative conception of what it means to be an elderly person is involved in the development of gerascophobia. In this regard, Santamaría explains that "any biased information is likely to increase an anxious condition of this type. The unknown makes our mind anticipate all the dangers that this reality may hide. Therefore, if the only information we receive is negative, it will reaffirm our fears and irrational thoughts".🔗

However no one seems to mind that Mr. No Big is much fatter or that Steve is 60% in real life or that Charlotte's husband is super skinny which makes him look sick and on top of that, bald. The criticisms I've read are where did the hot girls of the 90's go? And I wonder, whoever is writing that has looked in the mirror lately? Because I'm sure age hasn't passed them by. I'm looking forward to the second season for now!
