Ok guys, so I finally watched Sinners. I’m someone who doesn’t typically watch movies immediately it’s released except it a movie I’ve been expecting, I like to wait for the buzz to cool down. Like others I waited for the buzz of this to finish too. That didn’t reduce my expectations though.

When Sinners was first announced, the buzz was a lot. I kept hearing about it both from people around me and the internet. Naturally, I went into this movie with a pretty high expectations.

Unfortunately, I left disappointed. I’ve been asked by a few people why I found it disappointing, now this is my own opinion you’re free to have yours. I don’t really like giving bad reviews about things especially things that I know no better in or about but I think as a viewer I just had the urge to do this.
Before I go into why, let me set the scene for the movie.

The movie is basically about identical twins Smoke and Stack Moore, World War I veterans who’ve spent years running with the Chicago Outfit during Prohibition. When they return home to Clarksdale, Mississippi, they use stolen mob money to buy an abandoned sawmill from a racist landowner named Hogwood. Their dream was to turn it into a juke joint for the Black community.

With the help of their cousin Sammie, a young guitarist and singer with big dreams, along with his old longtime friends they were able to make an opening quickly.

It moves on to introducing an unknowingly dangerous outsider into the plot, Remmick, an Irish vampire hiding from vampire hunters. He finds shelter from the hunters and seeks to increase his flock, so the juke joint is his stop. His arrival brings a lot of bloodshed and gore, what was supposed to be a moment of celebration turns out to have a sad and tragic ending.

I know from this you might not see my point but I still feel it could have been more. Here’s why:
First, for a horror movie, Sinners never really kept me on my toes or the edge of my seat. I mean there were tensed moments but it was really thrilling and they felt predictable. I love horror movies that make hold your breathing wait for what might happen next, catches you off guard and stuffs like that. It had the vibes of a horror movie but didn’t give the impact it was supposed to.

Second, the scenes were nice and all but the pace of everything felt rushed, the tense moments came and went just as quickly. What kept going throw my mind was “this could have lasted at least more than one evening” I feel that would have a lot of things to settle in.

That’s not to say there weren’t parts I enjoyed. The blues performances were very lovely. Sammie’s ability to summon spirits through his music gave the movie a unique touch.

But overall, I saw Sinners as a movie that had a lot of potential but wasn’t cooked long enough.
So I’ll give this movie a rating of 3/5. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this movie too.

Thank you for giving your thought. I totally agree that giving the movie a longer time would have made it better.
