I debut writing about Contest #40, I love the theme of the contest about our favorite movie of the actor Tom Hanks.

Writing about a movie of this actor is very satisfying, since all his movies I consider to be excellent. It is true that the selection is complicated because with so many years of great performances and so many good films in his career to choose a favorite movie is not easy, and although in the contest we can write about several of his films I wanted to focus in only one to explain better all that this film represents for me.
When the excellent work of this actor is combined with the genius of a good director, the film is a success, and I mean director Steven Spilberg. It is impossible not to enjoy them, and one of my favorite movies is: Bridges of Spies.

Bridges of Spies.

I comment a little about the storyline. The film takes place in the most critical moment of the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union, where James Donovan ( interpreted by Tom Hanks) is the appointed lawyer in the defense of the Russian spy Rudolf Abel ( interpreted by Mark Rylance) as established by the laws of the United States, all defendants have the right to a defense. James Donovan plays his role correctly, avoiding the death penalty for the spy, who is sentenced to several years in prison.

Some time later an American pilot Francys Gary Powers ( interpreted by Austin Stowell), who was flying his spy plane over the territory of the USSR is shot down and captured, so the CIA asks Donovan to be in charge of representing the exchange and negotiation of the American pilot by the Russian spy.

For this interchange James Donovan has to travel to the former East Germany, and there he was witnesses all the fear, uncertainty and despair that is lived in the city of Berlin in those days, when the Wall that would divide the city is still under construction.

In this exchange the lawyer also includes a student named Frederic Pryor who is detained by the German police and is trapped on the wrong side of the wall. A student who is not of interest to the CIA but who Donovan insists be part of the exchange showing his quality as a person.

One of the things I liked about the film is that the prisoner Rudolf Abel at any moment transmits an attitude of acceptance, calmness and serenity, a way of acting that makes his defense attorney and the viewer reflect. One of my favorite parts is when in the trial the lawyer asks him if he is worried, and he responds, "Would it help? For me this is an attitude to emulate in life, because sometimes we go through difficult times and our attitude is to despair and anguish and that prevents us from thinking about the right way to act, which of course does not help because to despair does not solve anything.

The film is full of good values. The lawyer has to suffer the rejection of his colleagues and people in general when he to deals with the defense of the Russian spy, even his family does not support him, but he is still firm in his convictions and his belief in justice and that all human beings deserve the same right to be defended. The film also teaches values such as integrity and honesty. The lawyer at no time breaks the confidentiality agreement with his client even when pressured by the CIA; his work as a lawyer is over the interests of the CIA. Also is moving the importance he gives to human life, which for him is above the conflicts that nations may have. No matter if it is that of a Russian spy, a pilot or a simple student, every life counts as valuable, so every man has the right to be respected. As alluded to in the film, all lives matter.

I always love Tom Hanks's performance, when you see a movie of his, he leaves no doubt that he is the right actor for the role, he is an actor who can play anything in my opinion, and this movie is no exception.

It is a captivating film that you can't stop watching for a second and that keeps the tension until the end. I was impressed by the scene of the construction of the Berlin Wall, to see how people were in the same city, but separated from each other by a wall still under construction that prevented their passage, and how they tried to cross over it and the desperation they felt for not being trapped on the Russian side. Another of the passages I enjoyed for being one of the most tense was the interchange on the bridge, the tension and expectation generated when they don't know if they are going to hand over the student (Pryor), and how Abel (the Russian spy) refuses to move until they confirm that the student is safe.

It is definitely a movie that is worth watching more than once and that I would like to enjoy again.

A curiosity and something that attracted me about the story is, that it is based on real events, all the characters really existed, as well as the events that are told.

I really enjoyed participating in this contest and I hope to be able to repeat it

Me estreno escribiendo acerca del Contest #40, me encanta el tema del concurso acerca de nuestra película favorita del actor Tom Hanks.

Escribir sobre una película de este actor es muy satisfactorio, ya que todas sus películas según mi criterio son excelentes. Es verdad que la selección se hace complicada porque con tantos años de grandes actuaciones y tan buenos filmes en su carrera escoger una película favorita no es sencillo, y aunque en el concurso se puede escribir de varios de sus filmes, quise centrarme solo en uno para así poder explicar mejor todo lo que representa esta película para mí.
Cuando se une el excelente trabajo de este actor con la genialidad de un buen director la película es todo un éxito, y me refiero al director Steven Spilberg. ¡Es imposible no disfrutarlas!, y una de mis películas favoritas es: Puente de Espías.

Puente de Espias

Comento un poco sobre la trama. El filme transcurre en el momento más crítico de la guerra fría entre Estados Unidos y la Unión Soviética, donde James Donovan (interpretado por Tom Hanks) es el abogado designado en la defensa del espía ruso Rudolf Abel (interpretado por Mark Rylance) como establecen las leyes de Estados Unidos, todos los acusados tienen derecho a una defensa. James Donovan representa su papel correctamente, evitando la pena de muerte del espía, que es condenado a varios años cárcel.

Tiempo después un piloto norteamericano Francys Gary Powers (interpretado por Austin Stowell), que volaba su avión de espionaje por encima del territorio de la URSS es derribado y apresado, por lo que la CIA le pide a Donovan que sea el encargado de representar el intercambio y la negociación del piloto americano por el espía ruso.

Para este intercambio James Donovan tiene que viajar a la antigua Alemania Oriental, y allí es testigo de todo el temor, la incertidumbre y la desesperación que se vive en la ciudad de Berlín en esos días, cuando está aún en construcción el Muro que dividiría la ciudad.

En este intercambio el abogado también incluye a un estudiante llamado Frederic Pryor que está detenido por la policía alemana y que queda atrapado en el lado equivocado del muro. Un estudiante que no es de interés para la CIA pero que Donovan insiste en que sea parte del intercambio mostrando así su calidad como persona.

Una de las cosas que me gustaron de la película es que el prisionero Rudolf Abel en todo momento transmite una actitud de aceptación, de calma y serenidad, una manera de actuar que hace reflexionar tanto a su abogado defensor, como al espectador. Una de mis partes favoritas es cuando en el juicio el abogado le pregunta si está preocupado, y el responde ¿Ayudaría? Para mi esta es una actitud a emular en la vida, ya que a veces pasamos momentos difíciles y nuestra actitud es desesperarnos y angustiarnos y eso nos impide pensar en la manera adecuada de actuar, lo que por supuesto no ayuda ya que desesperarse no soluciona nada.

La película está repleta de buenos valores. El abogado tiene que sufrir el rechazo de sus colegas y las personas en general al ocuparse de la defensa del espía ruso, incluso su familia no lo apoya, pero aun así es firme en sus convicciones y su creencia en la justicia y en que todos los seres humanos merecen el mismo derecho a ser defendidos. El filme enseña valores como la integridad y la honradez. El abogado en ningún momento rompe el acuerdo de confidencialidad con su cliente aun cuando la CIA lo presiona; su labor como abogado está por encima de los intereses de la CIA. También es conmovedora la importancia que éste le da a la vida humana que para él está por encima de los conflictos que puedan tener las naciones. No importa si es la de un espía ruso, un piloto o un simple estudiante, toda vida cuenta como valiosa, por lo que todo hombre tiene el derecho a que se le respete. Como se hace alusión en el filme, todas las vidas importan.

Me encanta la interpretación de Tom Hanks siempre, cuando ves una película suya no te deja lugar a dudas que es el actor indicado para el papel, es un actor que puede interpretar según mi criterio lo que sea, y esta película no es una excepción.

Es un filme cautivador que no puedes dejar de mirar un segundo y que mantiene la tensión hasta el final. Me impresionó la escena de la construcción del Muro de Berlín, ver como las personas estaban en la misma ciudad, pero separadas unas de otras por un muro aún en construcción que impedía su paso, y como trataban de cruzar sobre él y la desesperación que sentían por no querer quedar atrapados en el lado ruso. Otro de los pasajes que disfruté por ser de los más tensos fue el intercambio en el puente, la tensión y la expectativa que se genera cuando no se sabe si van a entregar el estudiante (Pryor), y como Abel (el espía ruso) se niega a moverse hasta que no confirman que el estudiante está a salvo.

Definitivamente es una película que vale la pena ver en más de una ocasión y que quisiera poder disfrutar nuevamente.

Una curiosidad y una de las cosas que más me atrajo de la historia, es que es basada en hechos reales, todos los personajes existieron realmente, así como los hechos que se cuentan.
