Meet the Khumalos | Movies Review
Greetings, today I have an entertaining recommendation for you. It's a bit exaggerated, but it's something different. I like watching films from different countries and not always sticking to the same thing. Fortunately, Netflix has a lot of variety.
"Meet the Khumalos" is a South African film, supposedly a romantic comedy, but I'd rate it more as a family film.
Saludos, hoy les traigo una recomendación entretenida, es un poco exagerada pero es algo diferente. A mi me gusta ver películas de diferentes países y no siempre quedarme con lo mismo, afortunadamente en Netflix hqy variedad.
“Meet the Khumalos” es una película de origen sudafricana, supuestamente de comedia romántica pero yo la pondría mas como familiar.

At first, I didn't know who the main characters were because it's about two families, and I think they both are. However, the title also gives them away a bit, I suppose.
The story begins when a family moves into a seemingly exclusive neighborhood. They move right next door to the Khumalo family, but everything quickly turns disastrous when Grace Khumalo and her family go to welcome the new neighbors. She then learns that the person who moved in was her former friend, now an enemy.
Al principio no sabía quienes eran los protagonistas porque trata de dos familias y creo que ambas lo son. Sin embargo, el título también los delata un poco, supongo.
La historia comienza cuando una familia se muda a un vecindario que parece ser exclusivo, justamente se mudan al frente de la familia Khumalo pero todo rápidamente se vuelve un desastre cuando Grace Khumalo va a darle la bienvenida con su familia a los nuevos vecinos porque en ese momento se entera que quien se mudó era su antigua amiga y ahora enemiga.

Both women seem to hate each other, but the story gets even funnier when they discover that Grace's son and Bongi's daughter are in love and secretly dating. From here, a truly entertaining story between the two women begins.
Ambas mujeres parecen odiarse entre ellas, la historia se vuelve más divertida cuando descubren que el hijo de Grace y la hija de Bongi están enamorados y salen en secreto. A partir de aquí empieza realmente una historia divertida entre ambas mujeres.

On the other hand, what I like about these movies, and what people don't seem to appreciate, are the lessons they teach because everything has a purpose. They tell a funny story, but in the end, it leads to a message. Starting with these friends, one of the things they show us is that despite the passage of time, they held grudges. Furthermore, those wounds from the past hadn't healed due to a lack of communication. In fact, there was no communication at all. Where this part leads us is that when we talk and understand the context, many things begin to heal and we forgive. We also have the children. Both mothers had created a plan to influence their children's relationship, and that's not right, since they weren't allowing them to make their own decisions. Children shouldn't be burdened with their parents' mistakes. And just like those, another thing I liked was getting a glimpse into South African culture, as we're presented with different environments.
I certainly wouldn't say it's the best film, but it's good for entertainment and worth watching for something different.
En la película hay muchas situaciones graciosas y malentendidos, es cierto que se siente como un exagerado pero así es la comedia en las películas. Más adelante también muestran una parte humana y el motivo por el cual estas mujeres ahora ya no son amigas, sin embargo más adelante buscaran la forma de ver si existe una reconciliación.
Por otro lado, lo que me gustan de estas películas y que la gente parece no apreciar son las enseñanzas porque todo tiene un propósito, hacen una historia graciosa pero que al final te lleva a una mensaje. Empezando con estas amigas, una de las cosas que nos muestran es que a pesar del tiempo guardaban rencor, además de que esas heridas del pasado no habían sanado debido a la falta de comunicación, de hecho, no hubo comunicación en absoluto y a donde nos lleva esta parte es que cuando hablamos y entendemos el contexto muchas cosas empiezan a sanar y a perdonar. También tenemos a los hijos, ambas madres habían creado un plan para condicionar la relación de sus hijos y eso no está bien, ya que no les estaban permitiendo a ellos mismos poder tomar sus propias decisiones, los hijos no deben cargar con los errores de sus padres. Y así como esas hay más, otra cosa que me ha gustado es poder echar un vistazo a la cultura sudafricana, ya que se nos presentan diferentes entornos.
Ciertamente yo no diría que es la mejor película pero es buena para entretenerse y vale la pena ver algo diferente.
I saw a review of this film on TikTok but scrolled past it immediately it came up-reason being I find family dramas boring except the ones with dark secrets, suspense and twists-Well, I guess seeing it here again is my sign to actually watch it. Lol.
