Reseña de la Película: El Exorcista del Padre. Una película de terror para ver a gusto en casa. // Movie Review: The Father Exorcist. A horror movie to watch at home. (Esp/Eng)

Un saludo a toda la gente de la comunidad Movies & TV Shows, para el día de hoy me gustaría hablar de una de las películas de terror de este 2023, la cual ha captado la atención de muchos ya que fue basado en parte en un sacerdote de la vida real, que toca varios temas interesantes y polémicos en el transcurso de la película, esta es “El Exorcista del Padre”, dirigida Julius Avery y protagonizada, por nada más y nada menos, que nuestro gladiador Russell Crowe.

La película inicia con uno de los polémicos exorcismo de nuestro protagonista el Padre Gabriele Amorth, en una remota provincia en Italia, el cual es solicitado por el Padre local para exorcizar a uno de los jóvenes de la provincia, durante el cual el Padre Amorth “engaña” al demonio para que este posea a un cerdo que los lugareños habían traído por pedido del Padre, indicándole al lugareño matar al cerdo una vez que el demonio lo hubiera poseído, esto genera un gran impacto al Padre local el cual indignado denuncia al Padre Amorth ante la iglesia por el sacrifico del animal.

La Arquidiócesis no mira con bueno ojos este acto, y cree que las prácticas poco ortodoxas del Padre Amorth ya no tienen cabida en los tiempos actuales en los que se encuentra la iglesia. Por supuesto, que el Padre indignado se defiende con el hecho de que muchos de los casos de exorcismo algunas veces requieren de algo de teatralidad para tratar a los afectado por ello, también hace ver que su taza de exorcismo es alto al recurrir antes a la medicina (en este caso la psiquiatría) primero que a un exorcismo.

Mas adelante conocemos a una familia estadounidense que se muda a España, específicamente a la abadía San Sebastián ubica en la región de Castilla, que nos remonta al año 1987, cuando la familia conformada, por la madre Julia y sus dos hijos Amy, y Henry el menor, llegan a dicha abadía con el objetivo de estar unos meses en la propiedad para su remodelación y hasta su venta; planes que en el camino serian truncado en vista de que su hijo menor Henry se toparía con una entidad muy poderosa que reside en el edificio.

Con el acontecimiento de una fuga de gas que causa un accidente dentro de los trabajadores, Henry se encuentra convulsionando sin razón alguna, por lo que la familia corre desesperada al hospital y descubren que Henry físicamente se encuentra perfecto, a lo que el medico pregunta si el niño a sufrido de algún trauma reciente por lo que la madre confianza que hace un año su esposo murió y el pequeño presencio el accidente, por lo que el medico lo encuentra como algo psiquiátrico y los envía a casa.

Al llegar nuevamente a la abadía Julia nota que su hijo se encuentra pálido con una alta fiebre, quien después de varios sucesos perturbadores donde su hijo muestra un comportamiento macabro exigiendo traer un sacerdote Julia decide llamar al padre Esquibel, un padre joven de la comunidad que se encuentra fascinado por los exorcismos y la demonología, el cual casi al instante de entrar a la habitación de Henry se encuentra siendo arrojado contra la padre, con Henry exigiendo con voz demoniaca la presencia de otro padre.

Para este momento nos encontramos que la arquidiócesis ha sido informado por el padre, decidiendo enviar a su mejor exorcista, el Padre Amorth. Llegando a la abadía es recibido por el padre Esquibel, quien presenta a la familia, he inmediatamente se ponen manos a la obra confesando sus pecados para que el demonio no pudiera atacarlos en su intento por exorcizar a Henry, el cual se nota muy complacido al ver a padre Amorth entrar en la habitación, ya que sabe quién es y que una pieza importante en la iglesia católica. Pese a los esfuerzos del padre Amorth no consigue derrotar al demonio que posee a Henry durante su primer intento al no conseguir su nombre y darse cuenta que es un demonio poderoso, decide conocer e indagar más de la abadía.

Descubriendo que alberga secretos muy oscuros para la iglesia, secretos jamás revelados al público dentro de una cripta bajo la abadía, rodeados del olor a gas y azufre descubren muchas calaveras y el cadáver del regente de la suma Inquisición Española quien consigo porta un diario personal donde describe el tiempo que estuvo poseído por un demonio llamado “Asmodeus”, al ver esto el padre Amorth se da cuenta ante el gran poder que debe enfrentar un demonio que puede poseer sacerdotes y más aún exorcistas.

Al hacerse con la nueva información el padre Amorth se apresura a confesar sus pecados y volver a realizar el exorcismo, la lucha intensa con el demonio deja ver que no solo posee al pequeño sino que también puede hacer del control de cuerpo de su hermana Amy, atacando simultáneamente a los padre’s y a Julia, es allí cuando el padre Amorth toma la radical decisión de recibir al demonio dentro de él, para librar así a la familia de sus brutales ataques. En sus últimos momentos de conciencia le pide al padre Esquibel que saque a la familia del lugar y se ve obligado a encerrarse en la cripta mienta lucha fervientemente con el demonio Asmodeus en su interior.

El padre Esquibel enfrentado al demonio que ahora poseía a Amorth combate a Asmodeus desde afuera, tratando de apelar a la razón de Amorth por su fe a la iglesia y su credo, logrando así, al fin librarse del demonio.

En mi opinión, definitivamente la película no carece de drama y suspenso, aunque son pocas la escenas de terror, las que tiene son justas y necesarias, lo que me recuerda a las primeras películas de exorcistas que salieron en pantalla, siendo la favorita del verdadero Padre Amorth “El exorcista” que su opinión aun que era muy dramatizada reflejaba como se llevaba a cabo un exorcismo. Es una película de terror que evoluciona muy bien en la historia teniendo momentos cómicos representado así la personalidad del Padre Amorth el cual muchos describían como un comediante y risueño ser. Mi escena favorita en toda la película definitivamente es el momento donde vemos al Padre Amorth camino a la abadía en su moto, una vespa Ferrari, una moto muy común en Italia, y mi segunda escena favorita el encuentro de los secretos en la cripta, dándole muy suspenso a la película y fuertes críticas a la iglesia católica.

La ambientación de la película nunca deja de aspecto gótico, oscuro que infunde el terror en el espectador así como los efectos musicales que se encuentran en la película, definitivamente es un deleite ver esta película solo o acompañado, es perfecta para un domingo de terror con tu pareja. En mi preferencia, recomiendo verla solo bien abrigado en su cama con una bebida caliente y sus respectivas galletas, prometo que no te despegaras de la pantalla.

Greetings to all the people of the Movies & TV Shows community, for today I would like to talk about one of the horror movies of this 2023, which has caught the attention of many as it was based in part on a real life priest, which touches several interesting and controversial issues in the course of the film, this is "The Exorcist of the Father", directed by Julius Avery and starring, by none other than our gladiator Russell Crowe.

The film opens with one of the controversial exorcisms of our protagonist, Father Gabriele Amorth, in a remote province in Italy, which is requested by the local priest to exorcise one of the young people of the province, During the exorcism, Father Amorth "tricks" the demon into possessing a pig that the locals had brought at the request of the Father, instructing the locals to kill the pig once the demon had possessed it. This generates a great impact on the local Father, who indignantly denounces Father Amorth to the church for the sacrifice of the animal.

The Archdiocese does not take kindly to this act, and believes that Father Amorth unorthodox practices no longer have any place in the current times in which the church finds itself. Of course, the outraged Father defends himself with the fact that many cases of exorcism sometimes require some theatrics to treat those affected by it, he also makes it clear that his rate of exorcism is high by resorting to medicine (in this case psychiatry) first rather than exorcism.

Later we meet an American family that moves to Spain, specifically to the San Sebastian Abbey located in the region of Castile, which takes us back to 1987, when the family formed by the mother Julia and her two children Amy, and Henry the youngest, arrive at the abbey with the aim of spending a few months in the property for remodeling and even its sale; plans that on the way would be truncated in view of his youngest son Henry would run into a very powerful entity residing in the building.

With the event of a gas leak that causes an accident inside the workers, Henry is convulsing for no reason, so the family runs desperately to the hospital and discover that Henry is physically perfect, to which the doctor asks if the child has suffered from any recent trauma so the mother trusts that a year ago her husband died and the little boy witnessed the accident, so the doctor finds it as something psychiatric and sends them home.

Arriving back at the abbey Julia notices that her son is pale with a high fever, who after several disturbing events where her son shows a macabre behavior demanding to bring a priest Julia decides to call Father Esquibel, a young father of the community who is fascinated by exorcisms and demonology, who almost instantly upon entering Henry's room finds himself being thrown against the father, with Henry demanding with a demonic voice the presence of another father.

By this time we find that the archdiocese has been informed by the priest, deciding to send their best exorcist, Father Amorth. Arriving at the abbey he is greeted by Father Esquibel, who introduces the family, and they immediately set to work confessing their sins so that the demon could not attack them in his attempt to exorcise Henry, who is very pleased to see Father Amorth enter the room, since he knows who he is and that he is an important piece in the Catholic Church. Despite Father Amorth's efforts, he is unable to defeat the demon that possesses Henry during his first attempt, as he fails to get his name and realizes that he is a powerful demon, he decides to learn more about the abbey.

Discovering that it harbors very dark secrets for the church, secrets never revealed to the public inside a crypt under the abbey, surrounded by the smell of gas and sulfur they discover many skulls and the corpse of the regent of the Spanish Supreme Inquisition who carries a personal diary where he describes the time he was possessed by a demon called "Asmodeus", seeing this Father Amorth realizes before the great power that must face a demon that can possess priests and even more exorcists.

The intense struggle with the demon reveals that it not only possesses the little boy but can also take control of his sister Amy's body, attacking simultaneously the parents and Julia. It is then that Father Amorth makes the radical decision to receive the demon inside him, in order to free the family from its brutal attacks. In his last moments of conscience he asks Father Esquibel to get the family out of the place and is forced to lock himself in the crypt while he fervently fights with the demon Asmodeus inside him.

Father Esquibel, confronting the demon that now possessed Amorth, fights Asmodeus from the outside, trying to appeal to Amorth's reason because of his faith in the church and his creed, thus finally succeeding in ridding himself of the demon.

In my opinion, the film is definitely not lacking in drama and suspense, although there are few scenes of terror, the ones it has are just right and necessary, which reminds me of the first exorcist films that came out on screen, being the favorite of the real Father Amorth "The Exorcist" that his opinion even though it was very dramatized reflected how an exorcism was carried out. It is a horror movie that evolves very well in the story having comic moments thus depicting the personality of Father Amorth which many described as a comedian and laughing being. My favorite scene in the whole movie is definitely the moment where we see Father Amorth on his way to the abbey on his motorcycle, a Ferrari Vespa, a very common motorcycle in Italy, and my second favorite scene the meeting of the secrets in the crypt, giving very suspense to the movie and strong criticism to the Catholic Church.

The setting of the film never ceases to look gothic, dark that instills terror in the viewer as well as the musical effects found in the film, it is definitely a delight to watch this movie alone or accompanied, it is perfect for a Sunday of terror with your partner. In my preference, I recommend watching it alone, warm in bed with a hot drink and your respective cookies, I promise you won't take your eyes off the screen.
