Hace algunas semanas se hizo viral el nombre de una película, que aunque no fue tendencia en su año de estreno, lleno las redes tras, como ya se está volviendo costumbre con las películas de Netflix, mostrar historias absurdas y tiempo después aparezcan noticias globales con situaciones muy parecidas a las vistas en estos filmes, ¿predicciones?, la verdad es que no lo creo, puede que sirvan de inspiración para algunos actos e incluso algunos afirman que es una forma de denunciar planes que ocurrirán a futuro.

Pero volviendo a la película de la que quiero hablarles hoy, quiero advertir de antemano que no es una película buena, a pesar de que el cine francés tiene un alto nivel de calidad, esta película parece una de bajo presupuesto realizada por estudiantes; Como todo de lo que hablo, antes de hacer una crítica, decidí ver esta película, pensando que sería tan buena como la gente decía en redes y me conseguiría con algo que me conmovería, pero no fue así.

[English Translation] A few weeks ago the name of a movie went viral, although it was not a trend in its year of release, it filled the networks after, as it is becoming usual with Netflix movies, show absurd stories and some time later global news appear with situations very similar to those seen in these films, predictions, the truth is that I do not think so, may serve as inspiration for some acts and some even claim that it is a way to denounce plans that will occur in the future.

But back to the film I want to talk to you about today, I want to warn beforehand that it is not a good film, despite the fact that French cinema has a high level of quality, this film looks like a low budget one made by students; Like everything I talk about, before making a review, I decided to watch this film, thinking that it would be as good as people said in networks and I would get me with something that would move me, but it was not like that.

Athena es una película de Netflix en donde nos narra la historia ficticia del inicio de una guerra civil en Francia, tras el asesinato a manos de la policía de un pequeño de 13 años, el menor de un grupo de hermanos de una familia de migrantes Argelinos; Con esta Review, creo que muchos podrán entender que se hablara tanto de esa película, cuando hace unas semanas se hablaba de la muerte de un joven Argelino en Francia, lo que derivo en poco más de dos semanas de protestas en el país Europeo.

Athena es el nombre del barrio en el que se desarrolla casi toda la película, salvo algunas excepciones; Tras la muerte del joven Idir su hermano mayor Abdel, Militar francés y uno de los protagonistas de nuestra película, vive su duelo siendo la cabeza fría contrapuesta ante la ira que embriaga a su hermano Karim quien a su corta edad lidera la incursión a una estación de policías y las protestas violentas, para exigir la policía castigue a los tres oficiales acusados de la muerte de su hermano.

[English Translation] Athena is a Netflix movie where tells the fictional story of the beginning of a civil war in France, after the murder at the hands of the police of a 13 year old boy, the youngest of a group of brothers of a family of Algerian migrants; With this review, I think many can understand that there was so much talk about this movie, when a few weeks ago there was talk of the death of a young Algerian in France, which led to just over two weeks of protests in the European country.

Athena is the name of the neighborhood in which almost the entire film takes place, with a few exceptions; After the death of the young Idir his older brother Abdel, French military and one of the protagonists of our film, lives his grief being the cool head opposed to the anger that intoxicates his brother Karim who at his young age leads the raid on a police station and violent protests, to demand the police punish the three officers accused of the death of his brother.

Si bien no es una película que puedo decir que disfruté, tiene tanto cosas que criticar, como cosas que realmente hay que reconocerle; Esta película viéndola con ojo crítico, me saco constantemente de la experiencia, con errores de guión que entiendo se usan para darle drama a una escena, pero que no están justificados de ninguna manera lógica, por ejemplo personas que desaparecen de un plano a otro para dejar solo a nuestro personaje, combustible que bajo una lluvia de explosiones y fuegos artificiales no enciende, pero que fácilmente puede encender nuestro protagonista, o personas que ante cantidades ingentes de gas, pueden correr, cantar, y no sudan o sufren enrojecimiento alguno en sus rostros.

Como alguien que participo de forma activa en protestas varias, y que en parte pudo empatizar con la ira y los reclamos de nuestros protagonistas, la forma de presentar las protestas me descolocaba en ocasiones, pues entiendo que es Europa y dista mucho de como se viven estas situaciones en Latinoamérica, sin embargo, Francia tiene un historial de lucha bastante considerable, y ver policías golpear sin ganas o manifestantes tirar con cohetes de colores que no lastiman, me parece una manera triste de querer simular violencia real.

[English Translation] While it is not a film that I can say I enjoyed, it has both things to criticize and things to really acknowledge; This film, watching it with a critical eye, constantly took me out of the experience, with script errors that I understand are used to give drama to a scene, but are not justified in any logical way, for example people who disappear from one shot to another to leave only our character, fuel that under a rain of explosions and fireworks does not ignite, but can easily ignite our protagonist, or people who before huge amounts of gas, can run, sing, and not sweat or suffer any redness on their faces.

As someone who actively participated in various protests, and who in part could empathize with the anger and the claims of our protagonists, the way of presenting the protests sometimes put me off, because I understand that it is Europe and it is far from how these situations are experienced in Latin America, however, France has a history of quite considerable struggle, and seeing police beating unwillingly or demonstrators throwing colored rockets that do not hurt, seems to me a sad way of trying to simulate real violence.

Ahora, como ya dije no todo es malo y la película tiene cosas que hacen muy bien, una de esas cosas es las caras de nuestros protagonistas y personajes principales, en Karim por ejemplo puedes notar el odio y la perdida de la confianza en su mirada, su semblante impacta a la vista y es algo que se nota quisieron destacar con planos a su rostro durante toda la película, mientras que para su hermano Abdel, un personaje más rígido y sereno, los planos suelen ser planos secuencias demostrando mostrando que es un hombre que sigue pasos, que intenta mantener la cordura, que intenta mantenerse cuerdo.

La calidad de los actores es algo muy bueno, logran transmitir emociones y eso es algo difícil, ya sea ira, locura, tristeza, miedo, cualquier sentimiento que te presenten será fácil de reconocer en cualquiera de los personajes; Y aunado a esto, reconocer mucho los planos fotográficos que a pesar de los errores de script están muy bien logrados en cuanto a iluminación, colores y demás; Si aún estuviese estudiando introducción a la imagen, recomendaría esta película para aprender, más no es una película que recomendaría a nadie para divertirse.

[English Translation] Now, as I said not everything is bad and the film has things that do very well, one of those things is the faces of our protagonists and main characters, in Karim for example you can notice the hatred and loss of confidence in his look, his countenance impacts the eye and it is something that they wanted to highlight with shots to his face throughout the film, while for his brother Abdel, a more rigid and serene character, the shots are usually sequential shots showing that he is a man who follows steps, who tries to keep his sanity, who tries to stay sane.

The quality of the actors is something very good, they manage to convey emotions and that is something difficult, whether anger, madness, sadness, fear, any feeling that they present you will be easy to recognize in any of the characters; And coupled with this, recognize much photographic shots that despite the script errors are very well achieved in terms of lighting, colors and so on; If I were still studying introduction to the image, I would recommend this film to learn, but it is not a film that I would recommend to anyone to have fun.

Para cerrar, dejar en claro que Netflix es diferente en la forma de contar sus historias, pero hay situaciones donde se nota mucho la necesidad de querer contar una historia de una manera específica, en este caso querer justificar la violencia de un bando y vender a la policía como actores del orden cuyo objetivo es proteger y servir, fijándose en los detalles notaran que el lavado de cara a la policía en este film es incluso descarado, y querer justificar su accionar asociando a los manifestantes con droga, anarquía juvenil, armas y terrorismo

En ocasiones olvidarás de que se trata la película y no sabrás quienes son los buenos, o quienes tienen la razón, no te preocupes, la película está diseñada para esto y es que como en la vida misma, en toda guerra hay al menos dos bandos con visiones enfrentadas.

[English Translation] In closing, to make it clear that Netflix is different in the way they tell their stories, but there are situations where the need to tell a story in a specific way is very noticeable, in this case wanting to justify the violence of one side and sell the police as actors of order whose goal is to protect and serve, looking at the details you will notice that the facelift to the police in this film is even blatant, and want to justify their actions by associating the protesters with drugs, youth anarchy, weapons and terrorism.

At times you will forget what the film is about and you will not know who are the good guys, or who are right, do not worry, the film is designed for this and is that as in life itself, in every war there are at least two sides with conflicting visions.
