[Animation review] [Eng | Esp] Gake no Ue no Ponyo | A mix of magic and the ocean
Welcome my dear ocean travelers of the internet and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, it has been almost a week since my last publication because I focus on studying for the defense of my thesis (I approved in case anyone is interested in knowing) Returning to the focus of the publication I can not think of another way to return as the great ones than the fact of reviewing a Studio Ghibli film, being that this time brings us together the film "Gake no ue no Ponyo" focuses again on nature and more specifically on the ocean and the large number of fantastic mysteries that it entails. Without more to add, get ready to appreciate the waves because they are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros oceánicos del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, ha pasado casi una semana desde mi última publicación debido a que me centre en estudiar para la defensa de mi tesis (Aprobé por si alguien le interesa saber) Volviendo al enfoque de la publicación no se me ocurre otra forma de regresar como los grandes que el hecho de reseñar una película de Studio Ghibli, siendo que en esta oportunidad nos reúne el filme "Gake no ue no Ponyo" enfoca nuevamente a la naturaleza y más concretamente al océano y la gran cantidad de misterios fantásticos que este conlleva. Sin más que agregar prepárense para apreciar las olas pues estos por comenzar.
Gake no ue no Ponyo was released in 2008, was directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, and has a duration of 1 hour and 43 minutes. It is a fantasy animation, it focuses on Sōsuke, a 5-year-old boy who lives on an island who comes across a curious, very beautiful fish that he calls "Ponyo". What he doesn't know is that she is the daughter of a sorcerer and scientist, despite the difference that exists between species, they become friends and begin to establish a beautiful relationship which will be put to the test when Ponyo's magical powers begin to be present.
Gake no ue no Ponyo fue estrenada en 2008, fue dirigida por Hayao Miyazaki y producida por Studio Ghibli, cuenta con una duración de 1 hora y 43 minutos. Es una animación de fantasía, se enfoca en Sōsuke un niño de 5 años el cual vive en una isla el cual se topa con un curioso pez muy bello al cual llama "Ponyo" lo que esté no sabe es que es hija de un hechicero y científico, pese a la diferencia que existe entre especies estos se hacen amigos y comienzan a entablar una linda relación la cual será puesta a prueba cuando los poderes mágicos de Ponyo comiencen a hacerse presentes.

I always consider that the animation of this studio is on another level, it always manages to have a simply wonderful fluidity that accompanies extremely beautiful scenarios full of details that make them amazing.
Siempre considero que la animación de este estudio está a otro nivel, siempre consigue tener una fluidez sencillamente maravillosa que acompaña con escenarios sumamente hermosos cargados de detalles que los hacen alucinantes.
Along with the previous section, this one feels excellent, composed mostly of instrumental music which fits perfectly with the tone of the film, at the same time, it includes some melodious songs that are undoubtedly wonderful, a very well-kept section that is in tune with what the film seeks to be.
A la par del apartado anterior este se siente excelente, compuesto mayormente por música instrumental la cual encaja perfectamente con el tono del filme, a su vez, incluye algunos cantos melodiosos que son indudablemente maravillosos, un apartado muy bien cuidado que se encuentra en sintonía con lo que busca ser el filme.
The world building is well done, on the good side there is a good representation of the life of the people on said island, denoting a fairly organic setting as far as it is concerned, at the same time, an excellent job is done in what It refers to showing marine life having a solid presence in how human activity has affected the ecosystem; The latter is something that wastes the plot but it will be something that I will return to later. Broadly speaking, the context manages to convey that essence, both magical and natural, that is very present in the narrative.
La construcción de mundo resulta bien hecha, por el lado bueno se tiene una buena representación de la vida de las personas en dicha isla denotándose una ambientación bastante orgánica en cuanto a ello se refiere, a su vez, se hace un excelente trabajo en lo que respecta a mostrar la vida marina teniendo una sólida presencia el cómo ha afectado la actividad humana al ecosistema; esto último es algo que desaprovecha la trama pero será algo que retomaré luego. A grandes rasgos el contexto logra transmitir esa esencia tanto mágica como natural que se encuentra muy presente en la narrativa.
Broadly speaking, this narrative seems simple but enjoyable, the fantasy is well implemented because throughout the film it has presence and importance. The film through its construction of the world reflects how human activity has affected the ecosystem, this being a reason why I came to think that it would be something similar to "Mononoke Hime" however this never happens and is only mentioned briefly without having a considerable narrative weight being strange due to the importance that was given at first, This was somewhat disappointing if I am honest because this study has been characterized by being very forceful when it comes to transmitting its messages. The message of unconditional love and loving someone despite their differences is beautiful and is tinged with a certain tenderness that only infants manage to transmit but nothing else outside of it. The duration does not feel exaggerated because at all times the film has moments of tension or cute, all this makes it very digestible since although it is a basic story it is pleasant to watch.
A grandes rasgos esta narrativa me parece algo simple aunque disfrutable, la fantasía se encuentra bien implementada debido a que a lo largo de la cinta está tiene presencia e importancia. El filme a través de su construcción de mundo refleja cómo ha afectado la actividad humana al ecosistema, siendo esta una razón por lo que llegue a pensar que sería algo similar a "Mononoke Hime" no obstante esto nunca sucede y solo es mencionado en breves ocasiones sin tener un peso narrativo considerable siendo extraño debido a la importancia que se le dio en un primer momento, esto fue algo decepcionante si les soy sincero porque este estudio se ha caracterizado por ser muy contundente a la hora de transmitir sus mensajes. El mensaje de amor incondicional y el amar a alguien pese a sus diferencias es lindo y se encuentra teñido de cierta ternura que solo los infantes logran transmitir pero nada más fuera de ello. La duración no se siente exagerada debido a que en todo momento el filme tiene momentos de tensión o lindos, todo esto hace que sea muy digerible puesto que si bien es una historia básica resulta agradable de ver.
The relationship between Ponyo and Sōsuke is beautiful, it is everything that can be expected from something starring children, so far so good, however the rest of the characters feel empty without really having something interesting to contribute being only the mother of the protagonist who stands out as a secondary character, the rest is only doing bulk. I have to emphasize the fact that I found it quite anticlimactic the way in which the people assumed the misfortune, I expected them to use this moment as a turning point that would lead to a reflection but no, this never happened, they were just happy about the disaster as if it had been a blessing, obviously I did not expect something as serious as in Mononoke Hime (Go and see this gem when you finish reading, but if at least some collective sadness for having lost everything, not that serenity so false after having gone through a misfortune, this seems to me a general failure of the characters.
La relación que se da entre Ponyo y Sōsuke es bonita, es todo lo que se puede esperar de algo protagonizado por niños, hasta aquí todo bien, sin embargo el resto de personajes se sienten vacíos sin tener realmente algo interesante que aportar siendo solamente la madre del protagonista la que destaca como personaje secundario, el resto solo se encuentra haciendo bulto. He de destacar el hecho de que me pareció bastante anticlimático la forma en que el pueblo asumió la desgracia, esperaba que usasen este momento como un punto de inflexión que llevase a una reflexión pero no, esto nunca pasó, solo estaban contentos por el desastre como si ello hubiese sido una bendición, evidentemente no esperaba algo tan serio como en Mononoke Hime (Vayan y vean esta joya al terminar de leer, no tiene desperdicio) pero si por lo menos algo de tristeza colectiva por haberlo perdido todo, no esa serenidad tan falsa tras haber pasado por una desgracia, esto me parece un fallo general de los personajes.
Gake no ue no Ponyo is a tender film with a nice message, however it should be noted that it is quite simple in broad strokes and with few ambitions in general, I find it curious that Ghibli has not put some moderately complex element with reflective intentions in this film. It is for all the above that it deserves 3 stars out of 7, it is not as such a bad animation but taking into account the jewels that this studio has made if it feels like something a little loose and lacking in ambition, I still recommend seeing it at least once to appreciate the beautiful animation and enjoy its musical atmosphere.
Gake no ue no Ponyo es una película tierna con un mensaje lindo, sin embargo es menester destacar que es bastante simple a grandes rasgos y con pocas ambiciones en general, me parece curioso que Ghibli no haya puesto algún elemento medianamente complejo con intenciones reflexivas en este filme. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3 estrellas de 7, no es como tal una mala animación pero tomando en cuenta las joyas que ha hecho este estudio si se siente como algo un poco flojo y carente de ambición, igual recomiendo verla por lo menos una vez para apreciar la hermosa animación y disfrutar de su ambientación musical.

Saludos 😁 Ponyo fue la primera película que ví de Ghibli y estaba muy pequeña. No entendía mucho al respecto, solo de la gran amistad entre ella y el protagonista. Quedé enganchada con la animación, tan dinámica y bella. Gran resumen y buen trabajo. Un fuerte abrazo.

I just watched this movie I think last week, I love the story and the animation, it is superb. I love the voice actors too!
If Studio Ghibli has mastered something, it is animation. The way they handle fluidity is simply fantastic. I don't usually mention the voice actors since I rarely see the material in its original language. However, in the Spanish version it was excellent. Le felicito por salir adelante con la defensa de su tesis. Eso debe premiar el tiempo que le ha dedicado a los estudios.
El problema cuando se hacen trabajos tan buenos, como los de ese estudio de animación, es que se colocan a sí mismos unas barreras o expectativas muy altas y en la realidad no todos los batazos son un home run.
No he visto Mononoke Hime, a pesar de tener tiempo escuchando comentarios sobre ella, tampoco sabia de esta animación. Ahora voy a tratar de buscar una de las dos para disfrutarla. Muchas gracias por la recomendación.

Con respecto a los filmes te recomiendo ver primero Mononoke Hime ya que es sin duda alguna una de las mejores cosas que ha hecho Ghibli. Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con tu comentario con respecto al nivel de calidad, considero que este estudio a llegado un punto en el cual son su propia competencia en cuanto a crear historias únicas y eso implica que no siempre puedan triunfar.
