[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] American Gansgter | Fight between justice and crime
Welcome my dear traveling gangsters of the internet and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, I have a weakness for films of criminals and police because they show two sides of the same coin, and, if they show corrupt police, the matter is It only gets better, the film "American Gangster" not only fulfills all of the above but is based on real events, which gives an even more interesting touch to everything it contains. Without further ado, get ready to cut heroin because we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos gángsters viajeros del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, tengo una debilidad por los filmes de criminales y policías debido a que muestran dos caras de la misma moneda, y, si se muestran policías corruptos el asunto solo mejora, el filme "American Gangster" no solo cumple con todo lo anterior sino que se encuentra basada en hechos reales lo que le da un toque aún más interesante a todo lo que contiene. Sin más que agregar prepárense para cortar heroína pues estamos por comenzar.
American Gangster was released in 2007, it is based on real events, it was directed by Ridley Scott, produced by Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, among others, it has a duration of 2 hours and 37 minutes. It is a crime and dramatic film, the story focuses on Frank Lucas, the driver and hitman of one of the most important mafia bosses in New York. After the death of his boss, the power vacuum was noticed and the profits from the sale of heroin decreased considerably, tired of being an intermediary Frank decides to contact a cousin of his who is serving in the military in Vietnam to do business with the direct producer to obtain a better product at a lower cost, he will follow the teachings of his friend and mentor to position himself as the boss of the underworld, however he must be careful of those police officers who still remain clean and who want to put him behind bars.
American Gangster fue estrenada en 2007, se encuentra basada en hechos reales, fue dirigida por Ridley Scott, producida por Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment, entre otras, cuenta con una duración de 2 horas y 37 minutos. Es un filme de policíaco y dramático, la historia se centra Frank Lucas el chófer y sicario de uno de los capos de la mafia más importante de Nueva York, tras la muerte de su jefe el vacío de poder se notó y las ganancias por la venta de heroína disminuyeron considerablemente, cansado de ser un intermediario Frank decide ponerse en contacto con un primo suyo que presta servicio militar en Vietnam para hacer negocios con el productor directo para obtener un producto mejor y a menor costo, seguirá las enseñanzas de su amigo y mentor para posicionarse como el jefe del submundo, no obstante deberá tener cuidado de aquellos policías que aún se mantienen limpios y que desean ponerlo tras las rejas.

The soundtrack is present although it is not at any time an exceptional section or anything like it, it is good in general terms but it is not really anything spectacular.
La banda sonora está presente aunque no es en ningún momento un apartado excepcional ni nada de se le asemeje, está bien a grandes rasgos pero no es realmente nada espectacular.
The world building is very interesting, on the one hand, it raises the level of addiction that the society of the Big Apple demonstrates at that time with an exaggerated number of addicts who only think about consuming heroin, this being the reason that the business illicit proliferates in such a remarkable way, on the other hand, there is an abundant dose of police abuse and corruption that shows the moral bankruptcy that could be palpable in those times. I will speak separately of the way in which the film focuses on the Vietnam War as a business rather than as the war that it was, being a gold mine for those who knew how to take advantage of that terrible confrontation, in turn, this is used means to criticize it in a certain way because it was the nest for a handful of false soldiers who only sought to get high and benefit from a tragic event. All of the above gives us a setting that is quite depressing and amazing in equal parts, in which corruption, addictions, and illegalities abound, making those despicable times in American history palpable through its setting.
La construcción de mundo es muy interesante, por un lado, se plantea el nivel de adicción que demuestra la sociedad de la gran manzana para esa época con una cantidad exagerada de adictos que solo piensan en consumir heroína, siendo esta la causa de que el negocio ilícito prolifere de forma tan destacable, por otro lado, se encuentra una abundante dosis de abuso policial y corrupción que evidencia la banca rota moral que se podía palpar en aquellos tiempos. Hablaré de forma aparte de la forma en que el filme enfoca a la guerra de Vietnam como un negocio más que como el conflicto bélico que fue, siendo una mina de oro para aquellos que supieron aprovechar ese terrible enfrentamiento, a su vez, se utiliza este medio para criticarla de cierta forma debido a que fue el nido para un puñado de falsos soldados que solo buscaban drogarse y beneficiarse de un suceso trágico. Todo lo anterior nos da una ambientación bastante deprimente y asombrosa a partes iguales, en la cual abunda la corrupción, las adicciones, y, las ilegalidades están a la orden del día, haciendo palpable mediante su ambientación esos tiempos tan deleznables de la historia estadounidense.
The plot is extremely engaging, it focuses on the entire process of Frank's rise and fall, the way he built his empire and so on, all of this even showing all the obstacles he had to overcome to reach a notable position, this is worked. in such a way that there is always some violent event or addicted people present that reinforces what was previously mentioned. Another of the film's strong points is that it closely follows the growth of the case against the protagonist, this allows us to see both sides of the coin and to appreciate that feeling of progress on both the side of justice and the criminals.
La trama es sumamente atrapante, está va enfocando todo el proceso de ascenso y caída de Frank, la forma en que construyó su imperio y demás, todo esto mostrando incluso todos los obstáculos que tuvo que sortear para llegar a una posición destacable, esto es trabajado de tal forma de que siempre se encuentra presente algún suceso violento o gente adicta que refuerza lo mencionado previamente. Otro de los puntos fuertes del filme es que sigue de cerca el creciendo del caso contra el protagonista, esto permite ver ambas caras de la moneda y que se pueda apreciar ese sentimiento de progreso tanto del lado de la justicia como del los criminales.
Narratively, the film has a good rhythm and even makes correct use of some small time jumps that are introduced in a perfect way to advance the plot, these are not exaggerated to disconcert the viewer, on the other hand, it shows various characters carrying out actions which allows us to consolidate the similarity of the story with the real events, because there is always someone doing something well, whether it is the protagonist or someone else. The duration may seem exaggerated, in fact, I am the first to say that anything more than 2 hours is a risky bet, however, as I mentioned previously, something is always happening, whether due to the actions of the protagonist or another character, which means that the film always has something interesting happening on the screen, in addition, its progressive rhythm captivates the viewer and makes them want to know what the outcome of all the events will be.
Narrativamente, el filme tiene un buen ritmo e incluso hace un uso correcto de algunos pequeños saltos de tiempo que son introducidos de forma perfecta para hacer avanzar la trama, estos no son exagerados como para desconcertar al espectador, por otro lado, muestra a diversos personajes realizando acciones lo que permite consolidar esa semejanza de la historiacon los hechos reales, debido a que siempre hay alguien haciendo algo bien sea el protagonista o algún otro. La duración podrá parecer exagerada, de hecho, soy el primero en decir que algo de más de 2 horas es una apuesta riesgosa, no obstante, como mencioné previamente, siempre se encuentra sucediendo algo, bien sea por accionar del protagonista o por otro personaje, lo que produce que la cinta siempre tenga algo interesante sucediendo en pantalla, además, su ritmo progresivo atrapa al espectador y lo hace querer saber cual sera el desenlace de todos los acontecimientos.
The characters broadly have a good level of background and characteristics that make them feel alive. Those who are a best example of this are the protagonist and the antagonist because they both have a good presence and time on screen that allows you to get to know them. a little more in detail, with this I don't mean that they are deep and complex characters, even so they have a decent job that makes them interesting. The rest of the characters carry out actions but do not really have time on screen that makes them stand out, although it may seem bad, this is a smart decision because it dedicates more time to the protagonist and the antagonist not only to make them see as characters but as representatives of crime and justice, which is very good because it shows the effort that both have to make on each side to put the situation on their side.
Los personajes tienen a grandes rasgos un buen nivel de trasfondo y de características que los hacen sentir vivos, los que son un mejor ejemplo de esto son el protagonista y el antagonista debido a que ambos tienen una buena presencia y tiempo en pantalla que permite conocerlos un poco más a detalle, con esto no quiero decir que sean unos personajes profundos y complejos aun así tienen un trabajo decente que los hace interesantes. El resto de personajes ejecutan acciones pero no tienen realmente un tiempo en pantalla que los haga destacar, pese a que parezca malo eso es una decisión inteligente debido a que le dedica más tiempo al protagonista y al antagonista no solo para hacerlos ver como personajes sino como representantes del crimen y de la justicia, lo que queda muy bien debido a que demuestra el esfuerzo que ambos tienen que hacer por cada lado para poner la situación de su parte.
American Gansgter has very good points, especially if we talk at the level of plot and setting because it is based on a historical event and uses a little-known part of it as a starting point for the plot of its narrative, what stands out the most is the general way of developing events that on more than one occasion seems to be a reflection of the society of that time. It is for all of the above that it deserves 4.5 stars out of 7, a good film about police and criminals that is extremely enjoyable due to the various situations it has throughout its duration.
American Gansgter tiene muy buenos puntos, sobre todo si hablamos a nivel de trama y ambientación debido a que se sustenta en un suceso histórico y utiliza una parte poco conocida de ello como punto de partida para el argumento de su narrativa, lo que más destaca es la forma general de desarrollar los hechos que en más de una ocasión parece un reflejo de la sociedad de aquel entonces. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 4.5 estrellas de 7, un buen filme de policías y criminales que es sumamente disfrutable por las diversas situaciones que tiene a lo largo de su duración.

This reminds of me "Gangs of New York". Is this good?
I couldn't tell you if it's similar or not because I haven't seen the film you're talking about yet, I can compare it in a certain way to "Godfather." Obviously this film is not as good as that legend but it does have a certain similar essence, it's a Good film by Denzel Washington that I recommend especially if you are a fan of the genre.
