My Unusual Favorite

For this week’s prompt, the India United Community asks us to share our favorite movie. This prompt brings back a lot of childhood memories. Growing up, my siblings and I used to watch movies on the family’s television. That was so many years ago when we had just a small television. Today, technology has gotten so advanced that not many people watch TV. Back then, we used to watch all kinds of movies. I still remember the days when everyone would sit down in the living room and watch old movies like Baby’s Day Out, Home Alone, Mr Bones, The Gods Must Be Crazy, and many more

I find it funny and interesting how, of all my siblings, I am the only one with a weird taste in movies. My older brother enjoys watching Nollywood while my sisters enjoy watching Korean movies or series and also Yoruba and Igbo movies. Compared to them, I am very different. While they would watch their own preferred genre, I would watch anime and cartoons. And every time, they would call me childish, saying that anime and cartoons are for kids and that I haven't grown up. They sometimes say that after many years I will come back to agree with them that anime and cartoons are childish. Well, guess what, after many years, my preferred genre is still anime and intelligent cartoons.

When I saw this week’s prompt, I kept thinking about it and for minutes, I couldn't settle on an answer. I'm a big fan of movies and I've seen hundreds of them. I'm sure you'd agree with me that for a movie fan like myself, picking a single movie out of all the ones I've watched is impossible. So, I'll tweak the question a bit from “What is your favorite movie?” to “What is that one movie that you really enjoyed watching?”.

A movie I really enjoyed watching is The Croods. I saw this cartoon many years ago. I fell in love with it the very first time I watched it. Back then, I could say the lines word for word. Do you know what it takes to be able to say the dialogue in a movie almost from the beginning till the end? I watched it every day - in the morning, afternoon, and night. Well, the thing is, I watch a movie whenever I want to eat. I don't mean that I watch the movie from the beginning till the end. I put the movie on and watch a few scenes from when I start eating till when I'm done.

That way, I got used to it. I became addicted to The Croods. When I saw that it was becoming really serious, I had to force myself to delete it. How about you? What is your favorite movie?
