Me encantó Ballerina yo soy una fanatica de John Wick y esta nueva entrega dirigida por Len Wiseman presenta a Eve Macarro interpretada por Ana de Armas en una historia de venganza que transcurre entre los eventos de John Wick 3 y 4, y yo creo que es cero decepción. Desde el primer minuto la película arranca con todo, muestra a Eve cuando estaba niña que presencia el asesinato de su padre por parte de un grupo misterioso liderado por Gabriel Byrne, quien interpreta al Chancellor, el tipo malo quie maneja una secta sin reglas y opera fuera del código de honor de los asesinos tradicionales, después de esta tragedia Eve es rescatada por Winston y llevada ante la Directora de Ruska Roma para que la entrene como una máquina de matar disfrazada de bailarina. Esta película logra mantener esa esencia única de John Wick pero a la vez tiene su propia historia y en las secuencias de acción Ana de Armas demuestra que puede estar a la altura de Keanu Reeves obviamente adaptado a su físico y habilidades, no es que traten de convertirla en una versión femenina de John Wick ella se abre paso dentro de este mundo de asesinos profesionales.

Las secuencias de acción me encantaron sobre todo en las que hay granadas porque esta mujer las usa como armas de combate cuerpo a cuerpo, metiéndolas en la boca de los enemigos o usándolas como cinturones explosivos y creando momentos tan buenos que te hacen reír y gritar al mismo tiempo. La escena del lanzallamas hacia el final es probablemente una de las mejores secuencias de acción que he visto en años, las peleas están bien hechas y se nota el trabajo que Ana de Armas puso para hacer creíbles todas estas secuencias. Lo que más me gustó es cómo la película justifica de manera inteligente por qué Eve puede pelear contra hombres mucho más grandes que ella y es que le dicen que tiene que pelear como una chica, usando tácticas sucias, golpes bajos y aprovechando su agilidad en lugar de fuerza bruta, esto hace que las peleas sean más realistas y menos como fantasía pura. Gabriel Byrne como el Chancellor cumple su función de ser alguien a quien realmente quieres ver muerto al final y la aparición de Keanu Reeves como John Wick es algo que esperaba ver y lo mejor es que es natural.

Claro hay algunos momentos como la primera mitad donde la historia es un poco predecible y esa pequeña trama con Norman Reedus y su hija es innecesaria y alarga la película sin agregar mucho valor y la revelación sobre la hermana de Eve llega y se va tan rápido que te preguntas para qué la incluyeron si no iban a desarrollarla adecuadamente. Lo bueno es que una vez que la película encuentra su ritmo en la segunda mitad es acción imparable y cumple con su propósito. Ana de Armas demuestra que tiene lo necesario para cargar una película de acción en sus hombros, su actuación es buena y convincente y físicamente se ve creíble en todas las secuencias de pelea, aunque no voy a negar que al personaje le faltó un poco más de desarrollo emocional para que fuera más memorable.

En cuanto a las actuaciones, Ana de Armas lleva la película con confianza y carisma, aunque no hay mucho para mostrar en la parte emocional tiene esa determinación de venganza, Anjelica Huston está fantástica en su regreso como la Directora, tiene esa presencia intimidante que ya conocíamos de John Wick 3 me gustó ver a Lance Reddick en lo que creo fue su última actuación antes de fallecer. A mí parecer la película funciona mejor cuando se enfoca en la acción pura y deja de lado los intentos de profundidad emocional, porque honestamente eso no es lo que yo busco en una película del universo John Wick, yo quiero ver peleas, tiroteos y momentos que me hagan saltar y para mí en ese aspecto Ballerina cumple completamente.

Yo le doy a Ballerina un 8/10 y aunque no es una película que reinventa la rueda es exactamente lo que promete ser, una película de acción sólida que expande el universo John Wick de manera satisfactoria sin traicionar lo que hace especial a esta franquicia. Ana de Armas demuestra que puede ser una digna sucesora en este mundo de asesinos profesionales y aunque la película no alcanza las alturas de las mejores entregas de John Wick la verdad no sé si exista alguna que le llegue, yo creo que Ballerina está por encima de muchas otras películas de acción que he visto recientemente. The action sequences I loved especially the ones involving grenades because this woman uses them as melee weapons, sticking them in the mouths of enemies or using them as explosive belts and creating moments so good they make you laugh and scream at the same time. The flamethrower scene towards the end is probably one of the best action sequences I've seen in years, the fights are well done and you can tell the work Ana de Armas put in to make all these sequences believable. What I liked the most is how the movie justifies in a smart way why Eve can fight against men much bigger than her and she is told that she has to fight like a girl, using dirty tactics, low blows and taking advantage of her agility instead of brute force, this makes the fights more realistic and less like pure fantasy. Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor fulfills his role of being someone you really want to see dead at the end and the appearance of Keanu Reeves as John Wick is something I was hoping to see and the best part is that it's natural.

Sure there are some moments like the first half where the story is a bit predictable and that little plot with Norman Reedus and his daughter is unnecessary and drags the movie out without adding much value and the reveal about Eve's sister comes and goes so fast that you wonder why they included it if they weren't going to develop it properly. The good thing is that once the film finds its groove in the second half it is unstoppable action and serves its purpose. Ana de Armas proves she has what it takes to carry an action movie on her shoulders, her performance is good and convincing and physically she looks believable in all the fight sequences, although I won't deny that the character lacked a little more emotional development to make it more memorable.

Ana de Armas proves that she can be a worthy successor in this world of professional assassins and while the film doesn't reach the heights of the best John Wick installments I don't know if there is any that can match it, I think Ballerina is a cut above many other action films I've seen recently. So if you are a John Wick fan you will enjoy this movie and if you are looking for a good action flick to have a good time Ballerina is tremendously entertaining.
