Vi una película loquísima que se llama Dangerous Animals es de este año y me dejó pegada al mueble desde que empezó hasta que terminó, el director es Sean Byrne el mismo loco que hizo The Loved Ones y The Devil's Candy, este es un thriller psicológico que combina asesinos en serie con tiburones y quizás la trama suena medio loca pero para mí fuincionó. Aparece un tipo llamado Tucker, interpretado por Jai Courtney que maneja un negocio de tours con tiburones en Australia pero en realidad es un psicópata que usa a estos depredadores marinos como su método de asesinato mientras graba todo para su colección personal, este tipo es un total psicópata. También está Zephyr, una surfista estadounidense interpretada por Hassie Harrison que termina siendo la presa principal de este enfermo y aquí es dondew la película se convierte en una batalla psicológica entre estos dos donde uno trata de sobrevivir y el otro busca completar su ritual macabro.

Aquí no hay sustos baratos lo que hay es tensión en todo momento y una atmosfera claustrofóbica en medio del océano donde realmente sientes que no hay escapatoria posible para esta mujer. Lo que más me gustó de esta peli es la actuación de Jai Courtney, creo que al fin encontró el papel perfecto para mostrar su talento después de años de estar en otras pelis mediocres, aquí se transforma completamente en este psicópata carismático que al principio parece un tipo normal y hasta amigable, pero poco a poco revela sus verdaderas intenciones. Este tipo Tucker no es solo otro asesino serial y ya sino que tiene unas motivaciones retorcidas y una filosofía bizarra sobre los tiburones y la cadena alimentaria, comparándose a sí mismo con un super depredador y cree que sus víctimas son peces más pequeños. Hassie Harrison también hace una buena actuación como Zephyr, crea un personajke que no se queda parada esperando que la rescaten sino que lucha por su supervivencia usando su ingenio y determinación. Entre ellos existe esa tensión de gato y ratón que mantiene la película interesante, especialmente en las escenas más psicológicas donde Tucker trata de quebrar mentalmente a Zephyr mientras planea su muerte.

Claro no te estoy hablando aquí que estqa es la mejor película porque tiene unos cuantos probl4emas como que ciertas situaciones parecen un poco forzadas o convenientes para avanzar la trama, más que todo en esa subtrama romántica entre Zephyr y Moses que es medio artificial y no me terminó de convencer del todo. Otra cosa es que faltando poco más o menos en la tercera parte pensé que la película tuvo muchos finales es que parecía que iba a terminar y continuaba y así entonces sentí que más bien la habían alargado. Los efectos especiales con los tiburones están bien hechos en su mayoría, aunque hay unas partes donde se nota mucho el efecto digital, lo bueno es que el ritmo se mantuvo durante toda la película y hay suficiente tensión y gore para los que le gusta esa parte de horror.

Tucker habla tiene una visión distorsionada del mundo natural porque compara sus crímenes con el instinto de los tiburones y buenpo aqui los tiburones no son como monstruos malvados sino como animales que siguen su naturaleza para mí el verdadero monstruo es Tucker que usa estos animales como una excusa para sus fantasías sádicas. Las secuencias bajo eñl agua están muy bien filmadas y dan bastante miedo porque hay mucha tensión a través de lo que no ves en lugar de mostrar todo explícitamente, debo confesar que a mi me gusta mucho la playa pero me da miedo meterme en lugares donde no veo el fondo y yo creo que por eso esta peli me generó bastante tensión porque no sabes que animal marino puede salir aunque estás pendiente de los tiburones. Esa parte d supervivencia con thriller psicológico la peli logra equilibrarla muy bien dentro de este género de tiburones evitando caer en clichés.

Yo le doy a Dangerous Animals un 6.5/10 es un buen thriller psicológico que combina elementos de horror con una idea original que la verdad me parece que se aleja de las típicas películas de tiburones. Claro que tiene algunas fallas en el guión y algunos momentos donde la lógica se escapa por la ventana pero creo que la película lo logra y es gracias a las actuaciones de sus protagonistas en conjunto con una buena dirección que sabe mantener la tensión sin caer a trucos baratos. Sean Burn sabe cómo crear horror del bueno y con un presupuesto bajo creo que supo aprovechar bien sus recursos y logró hacer una película que tiene una idea bizarra y la desarrolla de buena manera, yo creo que vale la pena verla porque te mantiene enganchado es que me gustó que mantiene la tensión y suspenso y también tiene algo de gore y violencia.

I saw a crazy movie called Dangerous Animals this year and it left me glued to the furniture from the beginning to the end, the director is Sean Byrne the same crazy guy who made The Loved Ones and The Devil's Candy, this is a psychological thriller that combines serial killers with sharks and maybe the plot sounds a little crazy but for me it worked. There's a guy named Tucker, played by Jai Courtney who runs a shark tour business in Australia but he's actually a psychopath who uses these marine predators as his method of murder while filming everything for his personal collection, this guy is a total psycho. There is also Zephyr, an American surfer played by Hassie Harrison who ends up being the main prey of this sicko and this is where the film becomes a psychological battle between these two where one tries to survive and the other seeks to complete his macabre ritual.

There are no cheap scares here what there is is tension throughout and a claustrophobic atmosphere in the middle of the ocean where you really feel that there is no escape for this woman. What I liked the most about this movie is Jai Courtney's performance, I think he finally found the perfect role to show his talent after years of being in other mediocre movies, here he completely transforms into this charismatic psychopath who at first seems like a normal and even friendly guy, but little by little he reveals his true intentions. This Tucker guy is not just another serial killer and already but has some twisted motivations and a bizarre philosophy about sharks and the food chain, comparing himself to a super predator and believes his victims are smaller fish. Hassie Harrison also gives a good performance as Zephyr, she creates a character who doesn't stand around waiting to be rescued but fights for her survival using her wits and determination. Between them there is that cat and mouse tension that keeps the film interesting, especially in the more psychological scenes where Tucker tries to mentally break Zephyr as he plots her death.

Of course I'm not saying here that this is the best movie because it has a few problems such as certain situations that seem a little forced or convenient to advance the plot, especially in the romantic subplot between Zephyr and Moses that is a little artificial and did not convince me at all. Another thing is that I thought that the film had many endings, it seemed that it was going to end and continue and then I felt that it had been extended. The special effects with the sharks are well done for the most part, although there are a few parts where the digital effect is very noticeable, the good thing is that the pace was maintained throughout the film and there is enough tension and gore for those who like that part of horror.

Tucker speaks has a distorted view of the natural world because he compares his crimes with the instinct of sharks and well here sharks are not as evil monsters but as animals that follow their nature for me the real monster is Tucker who uses these animals as an excuse for his sadistic fantasies. The underwater sequences are very well filmed and are quite scary because there is a lot of tension through what you do not see instead of showing everything explicitly, I must confess that I really like the beach but I'm afraid to get into places where I do not see the bottom and I think that's why this movie generated a lot of tension because you do not know what marine animal can come out although you are aware of the sharks. I give Dangerous Animals a 6.5/10, it's a good psychological thriller that combines horror elements with an original idea that I think moves away from the typical shark movies. Of course it has some flaws in the script and some moments where logic goes out the window but I think the film succeeds and it is thanks to the performances of its protagonists in conjunction with a good direction that knows how to keep the tension without falling to cheap tricks. Sean Burn knows how to create good horror and with a low budget I think he knew how to take good advantage of his resources and managed to make a film that has a bizarre idea and develops it in a good way, I think it's worth watching because it keeps you hooked is that I liked that it maintains the tension and suspense and also has some gore and violence.
