Dream Scenario es una película de A24 que se estrenó en 2023 resultó ser algo totalmente diferente a lo que esperaba cuando vi el trailer porque va desde la comedia más absurda hasta el horror psicológico más perturbador y además te hace reflexionar sobre la fama, las redes sociales y lo jodido que puede ser volverse viral de la noche a la mañana. Aquí Nicolas Cage interpreta a Paul Matthews un profesor de biología súper aburrido al que nadie le para, debo decir que yo tengo dos amigas que son biólogas y no son nada aburridas jajaja no sé porque a los científicos siempre nos meten en ese saco, pero bueno acá en la peli este tipo de repente empieza a aparecer en los sueños de millones de personas alrededor del mundo pero no está haciendo nada en esos sueños solo está ahí parado viendo como pasan cosas horribles y eso lo convierte casi que en una celebridad, sin haber hecho absolutamente nada para merecerlo, lo cual es una crítica muy buena a como funciona la fama en la era de internet donde cualquier pendejada te puede hacer famoso, siempre lo digo con los mal llamados influencer.

La película parece una comedia ligera al principio porque este tipo se está disfrutando su nueva fama creo wue cualquiera lo haría no? el tipo está firmando autógrafos, dando entrevistas, sintiendo por primera vez en su vida que es importante, pero después todo se va al carajo cuando los sueños se vuelven pesadillas y él se convierte en el malo de esas pesadillas, por supuesto la gente lo empieza a odiar por algo que ni siquiera hizo. Aquí es donde la película se vuelve súper oscura y te das cuenta que no es solo una comedia, sino una crítica a como esa percepción pública puede destruir a una persona completamente inocente, eso suele pasar mucho con esta era de las rrss con videos fuera de contexto y gente opinando sin saber.

Una de las cosas que más me gustó de Dream Scenario es que mezcla los géneros de manera muy natural algo que no me esperaba y creo que el director Kristoffer Borgli logra mantener un tono consistente a pesar de los cambios de género. Primero todo empieza siendo una comedia absurda que te hace reír un montón, especialmente en la primera parte donde Paul está disfrutando su fama pero después se convierte en algo mucho más perturbador cuando los sueños se vuelven pesadillas y él se convierte en una especie de Freddy Krueger que aterroriza a la gente sin quererlo, jajaaja creo que se me cayó la cédula con esta referencia de Freddy Krueger, recuerdo que cuando estaba niña le tenía un pavor a esas películas. Esas escenas de los sueños parecen como sueños reales, con esa lógica extraña y esa sensación de que algo no está bien pero no puedes identificar exactamente qué y eso hace que cuando los sueños se vuelven violentos sea aún más perturbador porque se siente muy real.

A mí me gustan las películas que no te dan todas las respuestas y esta nunca te explica realmente por qué Paul aparece en los sueños de la gente ni por qué los sueños cambian de buenos a malos, o sea la peli te hace pensar y sacar tus propias conclusiones sobre lo que está pasando en pocas palabras hay que echarle coco. Otra cosa que me gustó fue la actuación de Nicolas Cage me parece que es una de las mejores en años, porque logra crear un personaje que es patético y simpático al mismo tiempo. Este tipo obviamente quiere ser reconocido y admirado pero no tiene la personalidad ni el carisma para lograrlo de forma natural, entonces cuando le llega esa fama de la nada él quiere disfrutarse eso sin saber las consecuencias que va a traer. Cage hace que Paul pase de ser un simple profesor tímido que todos ignoran hasta su propia familia pobrecito, a un tipo famoso que se le suben los humos y empieza a ser un arrogante y egoísta. Sunque la parte que más me gustó es cuando todo se va al carajo y la gente empieza a odiarlo, el pobre no entiende por qué pues él no hizo nada malo solo apareció en los sueños de la gente.

Me gusta la forma en que la peli habla de como funciona la fama en la era de las redes, no puedo estar más de acuerdo, hoy día la gente se vuelve famosa por cualquier cosa, sin importar si tienes talento o si hiciste algo para merecerlo y esa fama también puede irse al carajo de la noche a la mañana por razones completamente fuera de tu control, la gente te puede destruir sin importar si las acusaciones son ciertas o no. Paul no hizo nada para aparecer en los sueños de la gente, pero cuando se vuelve famoso él está feliz con esa fama lo cual es muy humano y comprensible, pero también muestra como la fama puede corromper incluso a las personas más normales y aburridas, porque de repente se sienten importantes y poderosos de una manera que nunca habían vivido antes, siempre lo he dicho dale poder a alguien y verás su verdadero corazón. Pero creo que lo más fuerte de la película es como muestra la cultura de cancelación y de como todo se vuelve contra Paul, la sociedad moderna puede destruir a alguien basándose en lo que cree la gente y ya sin hechos reales, si lo piensas crudamente esto es algo delicado hay que estar muy pilas con eso.

Al final creo que Dream Scenario además de entretener te hace pensar sobre temas súper importantes y actuales, cosa que no es fácil de lograr especialmente cuando hay una mezxcla de comedia con horror psicológico y una parte de crítica hacia la sociedad. La visión de Kristoffer Borgli es bastante clara y la actuación de Nicolas Cage demuestra que sigue siendo de los actores más interesantes de su generación porque logra crear un personaje complejo y humano en medio de una premisa completamente absurda. Yo le doy un 7.5/10 no es perfecta porque hay momentos donde parece que se pierde y el final puede ser un poco confuso, pero en general es una buena opción para ver y más si te gustan las películas que te hacen pensar, ultimamente las películas son súper predecibles y esta me pareció original y arriesgada, es una historia extraña que te hace cuestionar la realidad y la sociedad en la que vivimos.

The movie seems like a light comedy at first because this guy is enjoying his new fame I guess anyone would do it right? the guy is signing autographs, giving interviews, feeling for the first time in his life that he is important, but then it all goes to shit when dreams turn into nightmares and he becomes the bad guy in those nightmares, of course people start hating him for something he didn't even do. This is where the movie gets super dark and you realize that it's not just a comedy, but a critique of how that public perception can destroy a completely innocent person, that tends to happen a lot with this rrss era with out of context videos and people giving their opinions without knowing.

One of the things I liked the most about Dream Scenario is that it mixes genres in a very natural way, something I didn't expect and I think director Kristoffer Borgli manages to keep a consistent tone despite the genre changes. First everything starts as an absurd comedy that makes you laugh a lot, especially in the first part where Paul is enjoying his fame but then it turns into something much more disturbing when the dreams turn into nightmares and he becomes a kind of Freddy Krueger that terrorizes people without wanting it, haha haha I think I dropped my credentials with this Freddy Krueger reference, I remember when I was a kid I had a dread to those movies. I like movies that don't give you all the answers and this one never really explains why Paul appears in people's dreams nor why the dreams change from good to bad, in other words the movie makes you think and draw your own conclusions about what's going on in a nutshell you have to put some thought into it. Another thing I liked was Nicolas Cage's performance, I think it is one of the best in years, because he manages to create a character that is pathetic and sympathetic at the same time. This guy obviously wants to be recognized and admired but he doesn't have the personality or the charisma to achieve it naturally, so when fame comes out of nowhere he wants to enjoy it without knowing the consequences it will bring. Cage makes Paul go from being a simple shy teacher that everyone ignores even his own family poor thing, to a famous guy who gets up the fumes and starts to be arrogant and selfish. Although the part I liked the most is when everything goes to hell and people start hating him, the poor guy doesn't understand why since he didn't do anything wrong he just appeared in people's dreams.

Kristoffer Borgli's vision is quite clear and Nicolas Cage's performance proves that he is still one of the most interesting actors of his generation because he manages to create a complex and human character in the middle of a completely absurd premise.
