Se que muchos andan preguntandose si vale la pena ver esta nueva version de I Know What You Did Last Summer y sinceramente después de verla creo que las dos son igual me gustaron y están allí en una pelea jajaja, yo vi la versión original del 97 en el cine y luego la vi varias veces en televisión, claro en el 97 yo era una chama y por supuesto me ausstó y creo que fue de esas primeras pelis de terror que vi en el cine sola con mis amigas de ese entonces y después vino Final Destination, así que podría decir que I Know What You Did Last Summer fue la que me metio en este genero. Pues obviamente tenia las expectativas bien puestas no sabia absolutamente nada de lo que me esperaba y eso fue lo mejor que me pudo pasar, esta version del 2025 me agarro desprevenida con todos los cambios que tiene me sentí que no sabía para donde iba pero eso me gustó porque me mantuvo atenta todo el tiempo, la vi con mi hijo que también vio conmigo Final Destination Bloodlines y le había gustado bastante y con esta también la pasamos bien eso ya dice mucho de una película que logra conectar con diferentes edades. No voy a mentirles diciendo que es perfecta porque por supuesto tiene sus problemas en el guion y las actuaciones a veces son algo forzadas, pero la verdad es que no necesito que una pelicula de terror sea una gran obra maestra para que me guste porque yo lo que voy buscando es que me haga pasar un buen rato y que me mantenga alerta y eso fue algo que logró completamente.

He escuchado a muchas personas hablando de esta peli sobre todo de mi generación y creo que es de esas que amas u odias porque algunos dicen que es horrible y otros que es una de las mejores secuelas que han visto en años, yo la verdad me mantengo en en el medio pero mas cerca del lado positivo. Jennifer Love Hewitt y Freddie Prinze Jr regresan a sus papeles originales y aunque no tienen tanto tiempo en pantalla como hubiese esperado, cuando aparecieron me llevó a esa época de los 90 recuerdo que las amigas con las que fui al cine eran unas vecinas del edificio donde vivía eran morochas y fuimos con la tía de ellas y la verdad sentí algo de nostalgia, sobre todo cuando apareció Jennifer que me parece teniendo esa presencia en camara que la hizo famosa en la franquicia original. Los nuevos actores hacen lo que pueden con el material que les dieron, algunos brillan mas que otros pero en general cumplen con su trabajo de ser carne de cañon esperando su turno para morir de manera creativa, que al final es lo que uno espera de una pelicula de I Know What You Did Last Summer. La directora Jennifer Kaitton Robinson, que habia hecho Do Revenge antes, maneja bien el ritmo y las escenas de tensión aunque hay momentos donde se nota que no tiene mucha experiencia con el terror, pero se defiende bastante bien considerando que este no es su genero habitual.

Lo que mas me gustó fue como lograron actualizar la formula sin cambiarla demasiado, siguen siendo jovenes ricos que hacen algo malo y después son perseguidos por alguien con un gancho, pero le metieron algunos cambios que no me esperaba para nada y que funcionan dentro del contexto de la historia. Las muertes están bien hechas aunque no son tan sangrientas como hubiese esperado de una pelicula de terror moderna, se quedan mas en el lado de lo sugestivo que en mostrar todo grafico, pero para mi eso esta bien porque la franquicia original tampoco era conocida por ser super gore sino mas bien por las persecuciones y el misterio del quien lo hizo. Las escenas de persecucion son decentes aunque no llegan al nivel icónico de la original con Helen Shivers corriendo por las calles de Southport, pero hay un par que me mantuvieron bien pendiente esperando ver que iba a pasar. Me parece que en cunato al diseño de la peli se mantiene fiel al original y todo se ve como una amenza, el sonido de las botas y el gancho rasguñando las superficies me dio igual escalofrios despues de tantos años, para mí esos detalles pequeños son los que demuestran que los que hicieron esta pelicula lograron mantener la esencia y lo especial de la original.

El misterio de quien es el asesino esta bien manejado aunque si prestas atencion puedes adivinar algunas cosas antes de tiempo, pero igual hay ciertas cosas ur te mantienen confundido hasta el final, hay como tres o cuatro personajes sospechosos que van apareciendo a lo largo de la pelicula y todos tienen sus razones para querer venganza. La revelacion final me tomo por sorpresa y aunque no voy a hacer spoilers puedo decir que es mas atrevida de lo que me esperaba, van por un camino que otras secuelas no se han atrevido a tomar y eso me parecio muy bueno sobretodo ahorita que ya las pelis son tan predecibles. Ya casi al finl es mi parte favorita porque todo se acelera y las muertes se vuelven mas creativas, hay una en particular que me dejo con la boca abierta por lo brutal que fue pero sin caer en la exageracion, logran ese balance dificil entre ser impactante pero no ridiculo. El final deja la puerta abierta para mas peliculas lo cual no me molesta si mantienen este nivel de calidad y hay una escena a mitad de creditos que promete cosas interesantes para el futuro.

Para mí I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 es una pelicula que cumple con lo que promete, es entretenimiento puro que no pretende revolucionar el genero sino dar un buen rato a los fans del terror y la nostalgia de los 90. Si van esperando algo profundo lo mejor es que busques en otro lado, pero si quieres recordar esa primera vez que viste la peli o ver a unos muchachos siendo perseguidos por un loco con un gancho mientras intentan descubrir quien es el asesino entonces te va a gustar. Ojo no estoy diciendo que sea perfecta porque tiene algunos momentos flojos pero logra capturar esa esencia de las peliculas de terror de finales de los 90 que yo por lo menos extrañaba, esas donde no todo tenia que tener un mensaje profundo sino que solo necesitaban asustarte y entretenerte. Yo le doy un 7.5/10 y la recomiendo si eres fan de la franquicia original o si te gusta el terror mas clasico, pero eso sí no la veas con las expectativas muy altas. A mí me dejo con ganas de ver que hacen con la siguiente entrega y eso ya es más de lo que puedo decir de muchas secuelas que he visto ultimamente.

I know that many are wondering if it's worth watching this new version of I Know What You Did Last Summer and honestly after watching it I think they are both the same I liked them and they are there in a fight hahaha, I saw the original version of 97 in the cinema and then I saw it several times on TV, Of course in '97 I was a kid and of course I loved it and I think it was one of those first horror movies I saw in the cinema alone with my friends at that time and then came Final Destination, so I could say that I Know What You Did Last Summer was the one that got me into this genre. Well obviously I had my expectations set, I knew absolutely nothing of what to expect and that was the best thing that could happen to me, this 2025 version caught me off guard with all the changes it has, I felt like I didn't know where it was going but I liked it because it kept me attentive all the time, I saw it with my son who also saw Final Destination Bloodlines with me and he liked it a lot and with this one we also had a good time, that says a lot about a movie that manages to connect with different ages. I'm not going to lie to you saying it's perfect because of course it has its problems in the script and the performances are sometimes a bit forced, but the truth is that I don't need a horror movie to be a great masterpiece for me to like it because what I'm looking for is to have a good time and keep me alert and that was something it completely achieved.

I've heard many people talking about this movie especially from my generation and I think it's one of those that you either love or hate because some say it's horrible and others say it's one of the best sequels they've seen in years, I actually stay in the middle but closer to the positive side. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr return to their original roles and although they don't have as much screen time as I would have expected, when they appeared it took me back to that time in the 90's I remember the friends I went to the movies with were neighbors from the building where I lived they were brunettes and we went with their aunt and I felt some nostalgia, especially when Jennifer appeared and I think she has the camera presence that made her famous in the original franchise. The new actors do what they can with the material they were given, some shine more than others but overall they do their job of being cannon fodder waiting for their turn to die creatively, which in the end is what one expects from an I Know What You Did Last Summer movie. Director Jennifer Kaitton Robinson, who has done Do Revenge before, handles the pacing and tension scenes well although there are moments where you can tell she doesn't have a lot of experience with horror, but she does pretty well considering this isn't her usual genre.

What I liked the most was how they managed to update the formula without changing it too much, it's still rich kids who do something bad and then are chased by someone with a hook, but they made some changes that I didn't expect at all and that work within the context of the story. The kills are well done although they are not as gory as I would have expected from a modern horror movie, they stay more on the suggestive side than showing everything graphic, but for me that's okay because the original franchise wasn't known for being super gore either but rather for the chases and the mystery of who did it. The chase scenes are decent although they don't reach the iconic level of the original with Helen Shivers running through the streets of Southport, but there are a couple that kept me on my toes waiting to see what was going to happen. I think the design of the movie stays true to the original and everything looks like a threat, the sound of the boots and the hook scratching the surfaces gave me the creeps after so many years, for me those small details are the ones that show that those who made this movie managed to keep the essence and the specialness of the original.

The mystery of who the killer is is well handled although if you pay attention you can guess some things before time, but there are still certain things that keep you confused until the end, there are about three or four suspicious characters that appear throughout the film and all have their reasons for wanting revenge. The final revelation took me by surprise and although I will not make spoilers I can say that it is more daring than I expected, they go down a path that other sequels have not dared to take and I thought that was very good especially now that movies are so predictable. Almost at the end is my favorite part because everything is accelerated and the deaths become more creative, there is one in particular that left me with my mouth open for how brutal it was but without falling into exaggeration, they achieve that difficult balance between being shocking but not ridiculous. The ending leaves the door open for more movies which I don't mind if they maintain this level of quality and there is a mid-credits scene that promises interesting things for the future.

For me I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 is a movie that delivers what it promises, it's pure entertainment that doesn't pretend to revolutionize the genre but to give a good time to horror fans and 90's nostalgia. If you're expecting something deep you better look elsewhere, but if you want to remember that first time you saw the movie or see some guys being chased by a madman with a hook while trying to find out who the killer is then you'll like it. I'm not saying it's perfect because it has some weak moments but it manages to capture that essence of the late 90's horror movies that I missed, the ones where not everything had to have a deep message but just needed to scare you and entertain you. I give it a 7.5/10 and I recommend it if you are a fan of the original franchise or if you like classic horror, but don't watch it with very high expectations. It left me wanting to see what they do with the next installment and that's more than I can say for many sequels I've seen lately.
