Vi una comedia One of Them Days que me gustó bastante, la verdad esperaba algo bueno con Keke Palmer y SZA juntas pero no me imaginaba que iba a funcionar tan bien, esta película me entretuvo desde el principio hasta el final sin exagerar. La verdad es que ya había visto a Keke Palmer desde hace años en diferentes papeles pero ver a SZA actuando por primera vez fue algo que me llamo bastante la atención porque su personaje Alyssa era como si estuviera interpretando sus propias canciones pero en versión película y me pareció bastante natural para ser su debut en actuación. La película tiene es toda caótica y mezcla comedia con momentos que te hacen sentir preocupación por las protagonistas, la dirección de Lawrence Lamont logró capturar esa vibra de Los Angeles que siempre vemos en películas pero esta vez desde un punto diferente, a mí me pareció más auténtica mostrando lugares como Baldwin Village que en realidad la gente local conoce como the jungles pero en la película hacen esa broma cuando la chica blanca dice Baldwin Village y un niño pregunta que es eso. El guion de Syreeta Singleton funciona bastante bien construyendo la amistad entre Drew y Alyssa de manera convincente, de verdad te comes el cuento de que estas dos son mejores amigas que han vivido juntas por años y tienen ese rol donde una es más responsable y la otra más despreocupada pero ambas se complementan de maneras interesantes al final así son las amistades, aunque debo admitir que hubo momentos donde quería gritarle a Alyssa por las pendejadas que hacia y más cuando le mandó esa foto a Kean revelando su ubicación.

La historia arranca cuando descubren que el novio de Alyssa se robó el dinero del alquiler para invertir en su negocio de ropa íntima de imitación que les digo es una de las cosas más ridículas que he visto, el tipo tomó el dinero que no era suyo para hacer esto y por supuesto de allí te pedes sacar una idea de que tipo de hombre es. Lo que más me gustó es que no perdieron tiempo armando el conflicto, desde los primeros minutos ya sabes que estas dos están jodidas porque tienen hasta las seis de la tarde para conseguir la plata o las van a sacar del apartamento, el casero es probablemente uno de los personajes más detestables llega golpenado la puerta como un loco mientras Drew apenas llegó de trabajar el turno de noche y solo quiere dormir un poco. Otra cosa que me pareció buena es que se siente esa presión de estar atrapada en una situación imposible se nota la desesperación de estas mujeres en esas escenas donde están corriendo por toda la ciudad tratando de conseguir dinero de cualquier manera posible, desde donar sangre hasta vender zapatos robados de un poste de luz que resulta ser de King Lolo el que vende cosas raras jajajaa que después las amenaza por cinco mil dólares adicionales.

Los actores secunedarios hacen que la película brille de maneras inesperadas, está Joshua Neil como el chulo que vive de las mujeres, Aziza Scott como Bernice que también lo hizo muy bien, tiene presencia natural y cada vez que aparece sabes que algo interesante va a pasar, esa escena donde persigue a las protagonistas corriendo como atleta olímpica hasta que se estrella contra la puerta de una camioneta fue muy chistosa. Katt Williams aparece como Lucky dandole consejos a la gente afuera del lugar de préstamos y aunque su papel es pequeño se llega a sentir su presencia y Janelle James es la que saca la sangre me dio risa cuando dijo que era su primer día traajado en eso y todo sale tan mal cuando Drew decide donar más sangre para conseguir más dinero. Maude Apatow como Bethany la chica blanca que se muda al barrio fue interesante porque termina ayudandolas comprando el arte de Alyssa, aunque debo admitir que esa parte se fue conveniente para la trama, tambien esta Maniac interpretado por Patrick Cage que tiene buena química con Keke Palmer y resulta ser bombero y esto es importante al final cuando el apartamento se incendia por las camisetas inflamables del vividor.

La parte más fuerte de la peli son las actuaciones principales, Keke Palmer demuestra que su presencia constante en Hollywood por tantos años no es en vano, en lo cómico es burna pero también sabe cuando ser seria como en esa escena donde tiene que elegir entre su entrevista de trabajo soñada y ayudar a su amiga que esta siendo golpeada por Berniece afuera del edificio, esa fue la decisión más difícil que cualquier personaje tuvo que tomar en toda la película y ella lo manejó muy bien. SZA como Alyssa me encantó porqeue es muy natural teniendo en cuenta que es su primera actuación, su personaje es el tipo de mujer que describe en sus canciones, obsesionada con un hombre que claramente no la conviene, tomando las peores decisiones por amor pero de alguna manera tiene una energía bonita que te hace querer que las cosas le salgan bien, aunque hubo momentos donde me pareció demasiado gafa con las cosas que hacía y más cuando siguió escribiéndole al idiota del novio despues de que les robo el dinero del alquiler. La relación entre ellas se siente real, puedes creer que han sido amigas por años y que se conocen lo suficientemente bien como para saber que botones presionar cuando están peleando, esa pelea que tienen cuando todo se va al diablo fue dolorosa de ver porque ambas tenían razones válidas para estar molestas pero también sabias que iban a reconciliarse porque eso es lo que hacen las verdaderas amigas.

Los momentos más divertidos vinieron de las situaciones cada vez más ridículas en las que se meten tratando de conseguir el dinero, la escena del banco de sangre donde Drew termina donando como cinco bolsas fue una locura cuando Janelle James admite que es su primer dia y claramente no sabe lo que esta haciendo, luego cuando salen vestidas con ropa de segunda mano que parecen disfraces de Halloween mal hechos, también esa parte donde SZA se electrocuta tratando de bajar los zapatos del poste fue estúpida pero divertida aunque es lgo imposible porque la electricidad no funciona asi. Lo que si es que el final es algo conveniente porque todo se resolvió mágicamente cuando Bethany convence a todos sus seguidores de Instagram de comprar las pinturas de Alyssa por cientos de dólares cada una, y luego cuando aparece la entrevistadora de Drew en el show para ofrecerle el trabajo después de todo fue como demasiado perfecto, pero no me importó mucho porque quería que todos les saliera bien y tuvieran un final feliz. El final donde llaman a los cazarecompensas para que se lleven a King Lolo fue bueno prioque no llamaron a la policia y esto mantiene la autenticidad del barrio, y el hecho de que Maniac resulte ser bombero y aparezca justo cuando el apartamento se incendia fue conveniente pero al menos tenía sentido dentro de la historia, aunque para mi esa parte del incendio estuvo de más. Yo le doy un 8/10 porque me entretuvo bastante, era lo ue buscaba y las actuaciones fueron convincentes, la dirección también fue buena y todo tenoa esa energía de Los Angeles que necesitaba la historia, vale la pena verla si estás buscando una comedia que no insulte tu inteligencia y que tenga algo que decir sobre la amistad femenina.

I saw a comedy One of Them Days that I liked a lot, I was expecting something good with Keke Palmer and SZA together but I didn't imagine it would work so well, this movie entertained me from the beginning to the end without exaggeration. The truth is that I had already seen Keke Palmer for years in different roles but seeing SZA acting for the first time was something that caught my attention because her character Alyssa was as if she was performing her own songs but in a movie version and it seemed quite natural for her acting debut. The movie is all chaotic and mixes comedy with moments that make you feel concern for the protagonists, Lawrence Lamont's direction managed to capture that Los Angeles vibe that we always see in movies but this time from a different point, to me it seemed more authentic showing places like Baldwin Village that in reality local people know as the jungles but in the movie they make that joke when the white girl says Baldwin Village and a kid asks what is that. Syreeta Singleton's script works pretty well building the friendship between Drew and Alyssa in a convincing way, you really buy into the story that these two are best friends who have lived together for years and have that role where one is more responsible and the other more carefree but both complement each other in interesting ways in the end that's how friendships are, although I must admit there were moments where I wanted to yell at Alyssa for the bullshit she did and more when she sent that picture to Kean revealing her location.

The story kicks off when they discover that Alyssa's boyfriend stole the rent money to invest in his imitation intimate apparel business which I tell you is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen, the guy took money that wasn't his to do this and of course from there you get an idea of what kind of man he is. What I liked the most is that they didn't waste time setting up the conflict, from the first minutes you know that these two are screwed because they have until six in the evening to get the money or they will be kicked out of the apartment, the landlord is probably one of the most obnoxious characters comes banging on the door like crazy while Drew just got home from working the night shift and just wants to get some sleep. Another thing I thought was good is that you can feel the pressure of being trapped in an impossible situation, you can feel the desperation of these women in those scenes where they are running around the city trying to get money in any way possible, from donating blood to selling stolen shoes from a light pole that happens to belong to King Lolo the guy who sells weird stuff hahaha who then threatens them for an additional five thousand dollars.

The supporting actors make the movie shine in unexpected ways, there is Joshua Neil as the pimp who lives off the women, Aziza Scott as Bernice who also did very well, she has natural presence and every time she appears you know something interesting is going to happen, that scene where she chases the protagonists running like an Olympic athlete until she crashes into the door of a van was very funny. The strongest part of the movie are the main performances, Keke Palmer proves that her constant presence in Hollywood for so many years is not in vain, in the comic she is funny but she also knows when to be serious like in that scene where she has to choose between her dream job interview and helping her friend who is being beaten by Berniece outside the building, that was the hardest decision any character had to make in the whole movie and she handled it very well. SZA as Alyssa I loved because she is very natural considering it's her first performance, her character is the kind of woman she describes in her songs, obsessed with a man who clearly doesn't suit her, making the worst decisions for love but somehow she has a nice energy that makes you want things to work out for her, although there were moments where she seemed too gauche with the things she did and more when she kept writing to the idiot boyfriend after he stole their rent money. The relationship between them feels real, you can believe they have been friends for years and they know each other well enough to know what buttons to push when they are fighting, that fight they have when everything goes to hell was painful to watch because they both had valid reasons to be upset but you also knew they were going to make up because that's what real friends do.

The funniest moments came from the increasingly ridiculous situations they get into trying to get the money, the scene at the blood bank where Drew ends up donating like five bags was crazy when Janelle James admits it's her first day and clearly doesn't know what she's doing, then when they come out dressed in second hand clothes that look like poorly made Halloween costumes, also that part where SZA gets electrocuted trying to get her shoes down the pole was stupid but funny even though it's kind of impossible because electricity doesn't work like that. What is that the ending is kind of convenient because everything was magically resolved when Bethany convinces all her Instagram followers to buy Alyssa's paintings for hundreds of dollars each, and then when Drew's interviewer shows up on the show to offer her the job after all it was like too perfect, but I didn't really care because I wanted them all to work out and have a happy ending. The ending where they call the bounty hunters to take King Lolo away was good prioque they didn't call the cops and this keeps the authenticity of the neighborhood, and the fact that Maniac turns out to be a firefighter and shows up just as the apartment is on fire was convenient but at least it made sense within the story, although for me that part about the fire was over the top. I give it an 8/10 because I was quite entertained, it was what I was looking for and the performances were convincing, the direction was also good and everything had that LA energy that the story needed, it's worth watching if you're looking for a comedy that doesn't insult your intelligence and that has something to say about female friendship.
