Me gustó The Amateur 2025 no voy a decir que no pero pienso que es una película que hubiera quedado mejor como una serie de unos 4 a 6 capítulos, me imagino algo así como que cada capítulo es dedicado a cazar uno de estos tipos malos y a desarrollar alianzas y a la vez que se pueda profundizar más en el trauma del protagonista. Pero bueno no resultó así y aunque sea entretenida me parece que dejó como muchas cosas en el aire sobretodo en el final.

La trama trata sobre un analista de la CIA interpretado por Ramy Malek, que se ve obligado a usar sus habilidades en tecnología para vengarse de los que mataron a su esposa, este tipo es un nerd ni siquiera sabe agarrar una pistola pero pide ayuda para que lo entrenen, bueno amenaza para que lo entrenen jajaja. Aquí viene la parte donde me dolió la cabeza porque en menos de dos horas, la película intenta mostrar su transformación de geek asustadizo a cazador implacable pero sin tiempo para explorar sus conflictos internos y por esto es que digo que a una serie se le hubiese sacado más punta. La parte que más me pareció que kle faltaba fue donde tiene amistad con un personaje interpretado por Lawrence Fishburn, apenas vemos dos o tres escenas donde tienen contacto y son como uña y mugre, de hecho el tipo este casi al final yo creía que lo estaba persiguiendo y más bien jugó a su favor.

A mí parecer el comienzo de la película es fuerte con la muerte de la esposa de Charlie y su interés por descubrir la verdad lo lleva a chantajear a sus jefes de la CIA para recibir entrenamiento en combate. Aquí entra en escena Lawrence Fishburn, un instructor que le enseña a manejar explosivos y a crear identidades falsas y aunque sea muy corto el tiempo donde estos interactúan me gustó la presencia de Fishburn porque da como un toque de autoridad que a la peli le hace falta. Luego Charlie viaja por Europa usando su inteligencia para derrotar a los responsables del crimen y cada enfrentamiento es único, me gustó la explosión de una piscina en España hasta el uso de alergias para torturar a uno de ellos, me parece que esta soluciones creativas de Charlie son el punto fuerte de la película.

Sin embargo el ritmo no es muy equilibrado, los primeros 30 minutos son lentos y tratan de armar el dolor del protagonista, pero cuando llega la acción es muy acelerado y pasa rápido. Me pareció que el director apretó el acelerador en la tercera parte y dejó de lado el desarrollo de los personajes secundarios como John Bernthal que aparece como un agente todo experimentado pero solo para decir que salió en la peli y me pareció un completo desperdicio. Otra cosa que no me gustó es que la trama política de la CIA corrupta es subdesarrollada o sea un analista de datros solitario logra engañar a todo el sistema, es algo que no convence del todo.

A pesar de que The Amateur tiene sus defectos logra entretener, yo le doy un 6.5/10, me gustó la actuación de Ramy Malik como un hombre frágil pero astuto y las partes de acción son originales. Me encantó como usa la tecnología para compensar su falta de habilidades físicas, desde hackear cámaras de seguridad hasta crear bombas con materiales caseros aunque no sé si eso que hizo con las cámaras realmente existe pero estuvo bueno y es una idea que se puede copiar jajajaa. Lo que no me gustó mucho es que la película no se toma muy en serio las escenas de persecución aunque son tensas hay ciertas cosas que dan risa como cuando Charlie intenta disfrazarse y termina pareciendo un espía de caricatura.

Y volviendo a lo que dije al principio sigo creyendo que esta historia merecía más tiempo, si hubiera sido una serie podríamos haber visto mucho más cosas como cuando se gana la confianza de sus aliados o como la CIA lo persigue con más inteligencia. Esta película logra enganchar pero te deja con ganas de conocer más detalles y creo que este es su mayor fallo, quizás a algunos los puede decepcionar por su falta de profundidad. Me gustó el protagonismo de Ramy Malek y las ideas de la película son inteligentes además tiene un mensaje de que hasta los más débiles pueden llegar a ser peligrosos pero yo soy fan de los detalles y creo que le faltó.

Here comes the part where it hurt my head because in less than two hours, the movie tries to show his transformation from scary geek to relentless hunter but without time to explore his inner conflicts and this is why I say that a series would have gotten more out of it. The part that I felt was missing was where he befriends a character played by Lawrence Fishburn, we only see two or three scenes where they have contact and they are like fingernail and dirt, in fact this guy almost at the end I thought he was chasing him and rather played in his favor.

In my opinion the beginning of the movie is strong with the death of Charlie's wife and his interest in discovering the truth leads him to blackmail his CIA bosses to receive combat training. Here enters Lawrence Fishburn, an instructor who teaches him how to handle explosives and create false identities and although the time where they interact is very short I liked the presence of Fishburn because it gives a touch of authority that the film needs. Then Charlie travels around Europe using his intelligence to defeat those responsible for the crime and each confrontation is unique, I liked the explosion of a swimming pool in Spain to the use of allergies to torture one of them, I think this creative solutions of Charlie are the strong point of the film.

However the pace is not very balanced, the first 30 minutes are slow and try to build up the pain of the protagonist, but when the action comes it is very fast paced and passes quickly. It seemed to me that the director pushed the accelerator in the third part and left aside the development of the secondary characters like John Bernthal who appears as an all experienced agent but only to say that he was in the movie and it seemed to me a complete waste. Another thing I didn't like is that the political plot of the corrupt CIA is underdeveloped or a lone data analyst manages to fool the whole system, it's something that doesn't convince at all.

Although The Amateur has its flaws it manages to entertain, I give it a 6.5/10, I liked Ramy Malik's performance as a fragile but cunning man and the action parts are original. I loved how he uses technology to compensate for his lack of physical skills, from hacking security cameras to creating bombs with homemade materials although I don't know if that thing he did with the cameras really exists but it was good and it's an idea that can be copied hahaha. What I didn't like is that the movie doesn't take the chase scenes very seriously, although they are tense, there are some things that make you laugh, like when Charlie tries to disguise himself and ends up looking like a cartoon spy.

And going back to what I said at the beginning I still think this story deserved more time, if it had been a series we could have seen much more things like when he gains the trust of his allies or how the CIA pursues him with more intelligence. This movie manages to hook but leaves you wanting to know more details and I think this is its biggest flaw, perhaps some may be disappointed by its lack of depth. I liked Ramy Malek's leading role and the ideas of the movie are smart and it has a message that even the weakest can be dangerous but I am a fan of details and I think it lacked.
