Cell 2000 Movie Review/ Reenzja filmu Cela z 2000 roku
In the mind of a madman.
The film Tarsem Singh.
opens the viewer's door to madness.
The Cell is a forgotten film for most, but unfortunately it fades because it is groundbreaking in many ways.
In 2000, when there was a craze for various computer tricks, Cela came out, which emphasized practical effects and costumes, creating a work of "image."
The plot is about an agency that specializes in entering a dream and trying to reach a person's problems.
(Reminds you of something? Such a famous film by Christopher Nolan Inception?)
A young specialist deals with entering the mind of a sick person and trying to understand it and trying to open it up ( she deals with young schizophrenics here repurposed as virus patients).
Meanwhile, there is a serial killer on the prowl who kidnaps young women and then drowns them, and later "molds" them into dolls.
The police try to find him and come up with a good lead, but the murderer manages to kidnap another victim and lock her in a room. Bad luck that he gets a stroke ( mentioned here as the intensity of the schizophrenia virus, well not everything has to be by the book) and there is no contact with him.
The lady specialist undertakes to enter the mind of the psychopath to find the answer to where the trapped woman is.
The film was not only the inspiration for Inception, but also for Silent Hill 4, the main outline, but some plots, are even very close to what we have in the film because here as here the characters go between dream and jawa to mysterious places.
The main roles in the film are played by Jennifer Lopez ( yes that famous singer, she also used to play quite successfully in films) and Vincent D'Onofrio for many known from the film Full Metal Jacket for others as the Kingpin from Daredevil
How these actors played their characters is a small masterpiece although many scenes are "stolen" by Vincent it is also great Jennifer and her creations taken out of the paintings
Of great note are the locations in the dream where they are extremely meticulously chosen, even majestic. One of them later appeared in a music video by R.E.M
The surrealism we know from Alehandro Jadovordki's films and here we will experience, mysticism and symbolism are in every scene, every dream scene has its reflection in the art canon.
The film mixes thriller and daydreaming as a viewer we start towards the end not trusting what we are watching, we are not sure if this finale is real ( just like in inception). Of course, the film also has its worse moments, which spoil the plot a bit in favor of art, but here too the filmmaker tried to give the film poetry.
This is a film that came several years ahead when it comes to this type of film, was an inspiration to others and showed the way how to create an extraordinary work of art ( yes I'm talking about you The house that Jack built).
If you don't count a few plot stumbling blocks, this is an example of a dream film, watching it you feel like you are just dreaming a dream so unreal and yet so full of detail.m
The specialist has a difficult task because the mind of the psychopath is associated with several different places from the corridor ( SH4) to strange places like in India, up to I guess to the mercy( yes the final scene is brilliant in execution)
If you like movies that combine surrealism from sf with thriller then this movie is for you, here every scene is like a great song pops into your mind and stays there for a long time.
8/10 would have been 10/10 for me, however, the finale is shallow for me ( I'm not talking about the dream finale) and you can see that the director had limited time and towards the end he had to speed up the pace and solve the mystery quickly thus the immersion and the storyline is severely diminished.

Cela to dla większości zapomniany film, jednak niestety blednie gdyż jest on pod wieloma względami przełomowy.
W 2000 roku kiedy był szał na różne sztuczki komputerowe, wyszła Cela, która nacisk kładła na efekty praktyczne oraz na kostiumy, tworząc dzieło „obraz”
Fabuła opowiada o agencji, która specjalizuje się w wchodzeniu do snu i próbę dotarcia do problemów osoby.
(Przypomina wam to coś? Taki znany film Christophera Nolana Incepcja?)
Młoda specjalistka zajmuje się wchodzeniem do umysłu chorej osoby i próby zrozumienia jej oraz próbę otwarcia ( zajmuje się młodymi schizofrenikami tutaj przestawieni jako chorzy na wirusa).
W międzyczasie grasuje seryjny morderca, który porywa młode kobiety i następnie je topi, a później „formuje” z nich lalki.
Policja próbuje go odnaleźć i wpada na dobry trop, jednak morderca zdołał porwać kolejna ofiarę i zamknąć ja pomieszczeniu. Pech chciał, ze dostaje wylew ( tutaj wspomniane jako natężenie wirusa schizofreni, cóż nie wszystko musi być książkowe) i nie ma z nim kontaktu.
Pani specjalistka podejmuje się wejścia w umysł psychopaty by odnaleźć odpowiedz gdzie znajduje się uwięziona kobieta.
Film nie tylko był inspiracja do Incepcji, ale również do Silent Hill 4, główny zarys, ale niektóre wątki, są wręcz bardzo zbliżone do tego co mamy w filmie bo tu jak i tutaj bohaterowie przechodzą między snem a jawa do tajemniczych miejsc.
Główne role w filmie odgrywają Jennifer Lopez ( tak ta znana piosenkarką, kiedyś grywała również całkiem udanie w filmach) oraz Vincent D’Onofrio dla wielu znany z filmu Full Metal Jacket dla innych jako Kingpin z Daredevil
To jak Ci aktorzy zagrali swoje postacie to małe arcydzieło choć wiele scen „kradnie” Vincent to również swietnie wypada Jennifer i jej kreacje wyjęte z obrazów
Na ogromna uwagę zasługują miejsca w śnie gdzie są niezwykle skrupulatnie dobrane, wręcz majestatycznie. Jedno z nich później wystąpiło w teledysku R.E.M
Surrealizm jaki znamy z filmów Alehandro Jadovordkiego i tutaj uświadczymy, mistycyzm oraz symbolizm są w każdej scenie, każda scena snów ma swoje odzwierciedlenie w kanonie sztuki.
Film łączy thriller z majaczeniem sennym jako widz zaczynamy pod koniec nie ufać temu co oglądamy, nie jesteśmy pewni czy ten finał jest rzeczywisty ( tak jak w incepcji). Oczywiście film ma tez swoje gorsze momenty, które trochę psują fabule na rzecz sztuki, jednak i tutaj twórca starał się nadać filmowi poezji.
To film, który wyszedł kilka lat na przód jeśli chodzi o tego typu filmy, był inspiracja dla innych i pokazał drogę jak stworzyć niezwykle dzieło ( tak o tobie mówię Dom, który zbudował Jack)
Jeśli nie licząc kilka potknięć fabularnych to jest to przykład filmu snu, oglądając go czujemy się jakbyśmy właśnie śnili sen tak nierealny, a jednocześnie tak pełen szczegółów.m
Specjalistka ma trudne zadanie bo umysł psychopaty wiąże się z kilkoma różnymi miejscami od korytarzu ( SH4) po dziwne miejsca niczym z Indii, aż po chyba po miłosierdzie( tak końcowa scena jest genialna realizatorsko)
Jeśli lubicie filmy, które łącza surrealizm z sf z thrillerem to film jest dla was, tutaj każda scena jest jak świetna piosenka wpada w umysł i zostaje tam na dłużej.
8/10 było by 10/10 jednak finał jest dla mnie spłycony ( nie mówię tu o finale snu) i widać, ze reżyser miał ograniczony czas i pod koniec musiał przyspieszyć tempo i szybko rozwiązać zagadkę przez co mocno obrywa imersja oraz fabularny wątek.
