Robert Eggers is a filmmaker who portrays the human psyche in a rather unusual way.
Today I'm going to take a look at his first film work.

Beliefs in witches were popular in the USA, and various legends originated there.

Robert decided to look into one of the legends and create his film.
THE VVITH is set in the 17th century, when we meet William, who is banished from the settlement with his family.

Fervently believing in God, he leaves with his entire family and they settle in a remote area near a mysterious forest.

At first everything seems normal, the children help, the wife takes care of the house and the youngest son, but with time something starts to change.
The farm on which they have settled does not yield as much as they expected.

Thomasin takes care of his youngest brother, giving his tired mother a break. But then something strange happens, the baby suddenly disappears... and the nightmare begins for the whole family.
This is a film where witchcraft intertwines with reality. Fatality is combined with a sick fascination.

The longer we watch this film the more we wonder who the titular Witch is in this work. Is it the two twins who play with the black goat, or is it the mother who is tired of life and at the same time wants her son back, or maybe the older son who is infatuated with his older sister.

Each of the characters, despite their pious intentions, have their dark sides. None of the family of seven is blameless, evil is more or less drilling into their heads.

While half of the film is a psychological horror, in the second half the viewer, like a seasoned detective, begins to notice some extremely interconnectedness that drives the Witch of the title.

However, it's a work from A24 studio so we can interpret the film in different ways. As a psychological horror, where the protagonists, cut off from the society, start to fall into madness, and the only thing they know is a fairy tale about a witch from the forest.

There are often scenes in the film that suggest the characters were mentally ill and many of the events were imagined by them to create interest or conflict.

As I mentioned, each character has their own dark side and is perfectly capable of
manipulate it perfectly. The older brother peeping on his sister, even though he knows it's wrong, is driven by lust.

We as viewers follow through the eyes of the characters and it's hard to unambiguously show the Witch because she obviously appears several times, but on the principle of more visions that the character stimulates.

Although the finale is eloquent and strongly suggests who the titular witch is, the ending is ambiguously interpreted as either escape from a parochial family or death.
If you are expecting a film about witchcraft, Robert's film is different, more filled with symbolism or the meaning of the word "witch" (in this case, repulsion fits better)

If you know Lighthouse, the director there also threw the viewer on the thin line between reality and growing delusions, and the same is true of his debut, but the atmosphere and the sense that someone is around this family makes the film scary in a way that we do not know what is really threatening.

I recommend seeing it and, above all, determining your own interpretation of what the director has served up.

The film is enjoyable to watch, although I use the word enjoyable only to emphasize the fact that the film is suspenseful throughout.

The VVITH rozgrywa się w XVII, kiedy poznajemy Williama, który zostaje wraz z rodzina wygnany z osady.

Gorliwie wierząc w Boga odjeżdża z cała rodzina i osiedlają się na uboczu blisko tajemniczego lasu.

Z początku wydaje się wszystko normalne dzieci pomagają, żona dba o dom oraz zajmuje się najmłodszym synem, jednak z czasem coś zaczyna się zmieniać.
Farma na jakiej się osiedlili nie przynosi takich plonów jak zakładali.

Thomasin zajmuje się najmłodszym bratem dając chwile odpoczynku zmęczonej matce. Jednak po chwili dzieje się coś dziwnego nagle dziecko znika.. a koszmar sie zaczyna dla całej rodziny.
To film gdzie czary przewijają sie z rzeczywistością. Fatum łączy sie z chora fascynacja.

Im dłużej oglądamy ten film tym bardziej zastanawiamy sie kto jest tytułowa Wiedźma w tym dziele. Czy to dwoje bliźniaków, którzy bawią sie z czarnym kozłem, czy może matka zmęczona życiem i jednocześnie chciała by jej synek wrócił, czy może starszy syn zauroczony w swojej starszej siostrze.

Każda z postaci mimo wrecz pobożnych intencji maja swoje ciemne strony. Żaden z siedmioosobowej rodziny nie jest bez winy, zło w większy bądź mniejszym stopniu wierci sie w głowie.

O ile połowa filmu to horror psychologiczny, tak w drugiej widz zaczyna niczym wytrawny detektyw zauważać pewne niezwykle zależności, które kierują tytułowa Wiedźma.

Jednak to dzieło ze studia A24 wiec możemy film różnie interpretować. Jako psychologiczny horror, gdzie bohaterowie odcięci od społeczeństwa zaczynaja popadać w obłęd, a jedyne co znają to zasłyszane bajki o czarownicy z lasu.

Często w filmie przejawiają się różne sceny, które mogą sugerować fakt ze bohaterowie byli chorzy psychicznie i wiele wydarzeń zostało urojonych przez nich by wzbudzić zainteresowanie bądź wywołać konflikt.

Jak wspomniałem każda z postaci ma swoją ciemna stronę i idealnie potrafi nią
manipulować. Starszy brat podgląda siostre mimo ze wie, ze to złe to jednak rządze nim kierują.

My jako widzowie śledzimy oczyma bohaterow i ciężko jednoznacznie ukazać Czarownice bo ta oczywiście pojawia się kilka krotnie choć na zasadzie bardziej wizji które danego bohatera pobudza.

Mimo, ze Finał jest wymowny i mocno sugerujący nam kim jest tytułowa czarownica, to jednak dwuznacznie można interpretować owy koniec, jako ucieczkę od zaściankowej rodziny bądź jako smierć.
Jeśli spodziewacie się filmu o czarowaniu to jednak film Roberta jest inny bardziej przepełniony symbolika czy znaczeniem słowa czarownica ( w tym wypadku odtrącenie bardziej pasuje)

Jeśli wiedzieliście Lighthouse to również tam reżyser wrzucał widza na cienka granice między rzeczywistością, a coraz większymi urojeniami, podobnie jest w jego debiucie, jednak klimat oraz poczucie, ze ktoś jest wokół tej rodziny powoduje, ze film straszy na zasadzie, ze nie wiemy co tak naprawdę zagraża.

Polecam zobaczyć i przede wszystkim samemu określić swoją interpretacje co reżyser zaserwował.

Film ogląda się przyjemnie choć słowo przyjemnie używam tylko dlatego by podkreślić fakt, napięcia przez cały seans.
