Movie Review: Apex (2026)

There are movies you watch to relax… and then there are other movies, having you on the hook during their duration.

This movie is only 1h 35 minutes, but to me, it felt like it was more than 2 hours.
(Perhaps because I was also anxiously watching live the score between the local team I support on football - which by the way won the Greek Trophy again after 39 years!)

To get back to the movie, it really pulls you in from the first second.

My first though was... I would never, ever do such a thing... but lets watch and see how it feels for people who actually do extreme activities and sports. The movie stars with Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, located at the Troll Wall (Trollveggen) in Norway. This is Europe's tallest vertical rock face. The film showcases intense, high-altitude climbing scenes on this dramatic, 1,100-meter-high cliff, which by the way is still snowy... Even my adrenaline hit red at some points, watching this.

This movie is a brand new release, raw, adventurous, thrilling, slow but also among impressive sceneries around, where Charline's (Sasha's) acting really stands out and offers a good watch, if you like action.

The story

A mountain climber haunted by a fatal decision in Norway retreats to the Australian wilderness for isolation. Her journey turns into a desperate hunt when a deceptive local targets her as his next ritualistic prey in the bush.

Its genre: psycological thriller, survival, action, thriller

It is all that and maybe more.

At first, you get overwhelmed by nature. After a specific incident, Sasha is found to another place, traveling alone. This journey that seems personal, maybe even healing. You get the sense that the protagonist isn’t just exploring the wilderness. Is there something else that she has not taken under consideration?

Because the deeper you go into this vast, untamed landscape, the more you start to wonder…

Where is the real danger?

The scenes are very well made. The atmosphere, scenery, direction, acting was really good (for an action movie). I found some moments to be disturbing for me and some things in the scenario that could be skipped or altered.

Charline's style and physique gives an extra point to the movie.

The movie gets an 6.2/10 in imdb, but only coming from 110 users so far. I would be around 5.9 to 6 - and to be honest with you, I feel ok, but I would not (did not) choose this film :)

Please take under consideration that if you absolutely love action films, you will probably like it so take my review as if it comes from someone who prefers comedies over action films :)
