Movie Review: The Last House (2026)

I chose this film simply to kill some of my free time (I was really bored at some point and did not want to do anything else)

This is an almost 2h long film, categorized as Sci-Fi, Thriller, Survival, Action, Mystery

The Last House (2026) starts as a really promising film, nice photography, nice pace, everything seems to roll out well and the viewer is anxious to see whats coming next.

At its core, the film explores themes of isolation, trauma, survival, and the darker aspects of human nature.

Storyline:

A family of four is suddenly sealed inside their house with no way out and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

The film follows a happy family of four, that (as all the neighbors) suddenly realize, they cannot get our of their home. They are trapped, with their cute old dog in their house and as it seems, everybody else is facing the same situation (everyone?)

The story unfolds as the family is trying to find ways to not give up, on the contrary they are doing their best to face all difficult situations while remaining supporting to each other.

Some of the questions by the film directors are about how people react when pushed to their emotional and psychological limits.

Visually, The Last House is not so bad.

The cinematography and direction create a gloomy mood that fits the story, while the pacing in most of the film is ok. (I admit that there were some disturbing scenes for me and the second part of the movie, I watched on the quick speed)

Although I wasn't familiar with most of the cast beforehand, the performances was convincing and supported the film's overall atmosphere.

That said, this is definitely not a movie for everyone. Several scenes may be difficult to watch.

Personally, this time I find myself to almost completely agree with the 5.5/10 IMDb rating.

Overall, I wouldn't actively recommend The Last House unless you're simply looking to pass the time or you're genuinely curious to see what this movie is about.
