Movie Review: Voicemails for Isabelle (2026)

This is a brand new movie on Netflix, it was released in June 2026, so I wanted to share more information about it (no spoilers). Be ready for a romance about love, loss, family, connections, fate.

If you are super sensitive, I suggest that you watch it when you feel ready for this kind of films. On Netflix, I saw the category 'comedy' so I chose it yesterday (after no movies for more than 1 month). If I had checked out the imdb, I would probably leave it for another day.

(Please note that this movie is currently #1 in the Greek Netflix)

Official storyline

Jill leaves voice messages to her deceased sister telling her about her chaotic life in San Francisco. Unwittingly, a mysterious Austin real estate agent begins to receive their confessions..

Genre: Feel Good Romance, Romantic Comedy, Comedy, Drama, Romance

If you choose to see a romantic comedy, you will probably expect to laugh. Maybe cry out a little bit too. This one does both, depending also on your own experiences, but I ll admit, it made me cry a few times. You smile, you laugh, you cry, and then again, you laugh and you smile.

Get ready to see a touching story about two sisters and their relationship, that is built stronger because of the circumstances.

Jill is a very brave little girl who grows to be a remarkable woman, very close to her sister.

The movie is a creatively written and directed by Leah McKendrick, themed "strangers connected in the digital era". Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson are staring in this romance and their performances (as from everyone) are absolutely amazing.

In the movie, Isabelle does not make it. And this triggers the whole movie story. As she strives to remain close to her, Jill never stops leaving voicemail to her sister's phone number. However the number has already been reassigned.

Those deeply personal messages begin reaching a real estate agent who lives and works miles away. He gradually becomes captivated by the woman behind the voice. What follows is a charming, emotional journey that will give you moments of joy, some nice plot twists that will keep you hooked in the movie!

One of the movie highlights is the workplace of Jill, which is a restaurant operated by one of the top Master Chefs, if you enjoy cooking or have watched Master Chef, you will definitely find more interesting sides in the story!

My movie rating?
7/10

I liked the direction, the scenery, the acting, the actors and the scenario
I would only like to have watched it at a different time and not yesterday :)

The imdb rating is 7.5/10 but it may change a bit as more people watch and rate it.

If you're looking for a feel-good movie that offers more than romantic comedy clichés, Voicemails for Isabelle is worth adding to your watch-list. It will leave you smiling, laughing, but be ready for some tears during different parts of the movie, and have some tissues nearby!
