How Far Can Obsession Go? A Review of Locked Away (2010)

While watching the movie, I couldn't help but remember the advice my parents always gave us when we were kids: never trust someone too easily, especially a person you've just met. I still remember my mother's words: "Some parents don't even know the true character of their own children, so how much more can you trust a stranger?" That reminder has stayed with me over the years, and this movie perfectly illustrates why it's important to be cautious about who we place our trust in.

This movie portrays Chloe, the counselor, as someone with an unhealthy obsession with having a child. Unfortunately, she is unable to have children of her own, yet her desire to become a mother consumes her. In fact, she had already prepared an entire nursery, complete with baby clothes, toys, a crib, and a baby monitor. These details clearly show how deeply her obsession had taken over her life.

Since Chloe was unable to have children of her own, she took advantage of her position as a counselor. When a pregnant teenager named Taylin and her boyfriend came to her for counseling she saw it as a perfect opportunity especially after having a conflict with her mother over the pregnancy. She offered Taylin to stay at her house, making it seem like she genuinely cared and wanted to help.

At first, Chloe appeared kind, supportive, and trustworthy. However, as time went on, Taylin began to notice that something wasn't right so she finally tried to escape, but she failed. That was the moment Chloe revealed her true colors.

Her obsession had completely consumed her. She was willing to manipulate, deceive, hurt and even kill other people just to get what she wanted. It was disturbing to watch how far she was willing to go to fulfill her dream of having a baby.

What I liked most about this movie is the lesson it leaves behind. It reminds us not to place our trust in someone too quickly, especially in today's world. Just because someone treats us with kindness doesn't mean their intentions are always genuine or that they will remain the same forever.

I also have to give credit to Jean Louisa Kelly for her performance as Chloe. She portrayed the character exceptionally well, capturing the unsettling behavior, emotional instability, and obsessive personality in a way that made the character both believable and frightening.

There were several moments in the movie that had me on the edge of my seat, especially whenever Taylin tried to escape. I kept thinking, "What if Chloe catches her?" Those suspenseful scenes made the movie even more intense and exciting to watch.

From the very beginning, the film immediately grabbed my attention. It opens with a thrilling scene that makes you wonder what really happened and why everything turned out that way. I always know I'm going to enjoy a movie when it captures my interest within the first few minutes.

Overall, I highly recommend this movie. The story keeps you guessing as you watch, making you wonder what will happen next and what caused Chloe's disturbing obsession in the first place. While people sometimes use the word obsession to describe a strong passion, an unhealthy obsession is entirely different. Once it becomes uncontrollable, it can lead people to manipulate, harm, or even destroy the lives of others just to satisfy their desires. That's exactly what this movie portrays, making it both suspenseful and thought-provoking.
