After watching Tom Cruise's performances in the Mission Impossible franchise, I knew Top Gun: Maverick (2022) would be a blockbuster and I was proved right! I have not seen the prequel, Top Gun (1986), but you would agree that this movie earned its success mostly because of Tom Cruise's personality and fame which he earned over the years and also for the well-executed storyline.

Tom Cruise is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood and he is known for his dedication to roles. I enjoyed watching him do his thing on Mission Impossible films, Jack Reacher (2012), The Last Samurai (2003), Collateral (2004) and other popular films for which he received many awards. I also understand he does most of his stunts!

Top Gun: Maverick, an American action movie, starts with a scene where US Navy Captain, Maverick (excellently played by Tom Cruise), arrives at the US naval base and he's informed that Rear Admiral Cain wants to shut down his jet program and channel the money towards funding drones. Maverick immediately suits up and flies one of the jets and sets a top record before Cain can shut them down.

Due to this unauthorized mission and destruction of the jet, Maverick receives an order to return to NAS North Island to train a group of Top Gun best graduates in preparation for a delicate but dangerous mission that may cost the lives of the pilots. As this mission takes Maverick back to his past (the loss of his best friend/wingman and former girlfriend), he must decide whether or not he can execute the mission successfully.

Review

The essence of an action film is basically to display heartstopping and spectacular action sequences that will take your breath away. This movie did it all!

I commend the director, crew and cast for the sensational and authentic performances. The visual effects are great and the scenes are well scheduled. All the flying scenes, especially the low-altitude flights, the airborne dogfights and the team effort to execute the mission were impressive.

I was literally on the edge of my seat, especially in the scene where the mean Admiral Cyclone (played by Jon Hamm) went to coach the team to accomplish the mission in 4 minutes only for Maverick to show up on the screen declaring he would perform the exercise in 2 minutes 15 seconds and he did! I was awed.

I understand all the flying scenes was shot in the U.S. Navy F/A-18s and the cast went through training for the scenes. I'll say that's dedication for which they are rightly rewarded by the success of this movie.

The cast chemistry is smooth and outstanding. Viewers can easily believe Penny (played by the lovely Jennifer Connelly) is in love with Maverick even though he left for a long time and returned.

Also, the cooperation among the Top Gun pilots is great, maybe because it's a life-or-death situation. For missions like that to be successful, it requires nothing short of unity

This is one fantastic, action-packed movie that I'll happily recommend to action movie lovers. The viewing time was about two hours, and ten minutes but felt like it ran for an hour as I wanted more of the action. Like all great movies, it must end!

I rate this sensational movie 4.8 stars out of 5.

Ah! Maverick 😅. I loveee this movie so much. This movie coerced a lot of emotions out of me. The ending part made me yell for victory Hahah. I enjoyed everything about this movie and I can say the movie got the attention it deserves. Wonderful review! Enjoy reading your post.

The ending was suspenseful! I thought Maverick had crashed and died after saving Rooster's life. Then I remember he's the protagonist, he shouldn't die! 😂

It's ones of the best movies I've watched this year. And Tom Cruise looks good and is aging gracefully like fine wine! 😛

You can believe that I haven't seen this movie yet,I saw the first one,the old one haha but I've read so much about this one haha I don't know what would be new when I see it in the cinema.Without a doubt Tom Cruise is the star,a great actor who nine box office.
