BDC Shorts: Strength Beyond The Physical

Talk about one of your favorite fictional/fantasy characters

I've always had a thing for strong people generally, and then strong women in particular. I don't mean physical strength alone, I admire strength in character. I like to read about these strong characters and watch them in films. They inspire in me hope that what the society may deem impossible is possible.

I believe I am not alone in this admiration. Most people love to watch superhero films because they see strong characters and want/aspire to be like them. For the women, they are nowadays referred to as badasses because they are brutally honest, independent, they know their self-worth, they fight for what they believe in, they pursue their values vigorously, they inspire and encourage others to follow in their steps and defend the helpless.

One badass fictional/fantasy character I admire from the popular HBO fantasy series, Game Of Thrones, is Brienne of Tarth. I have not read the books adapted for the popular series but the performance of Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth was top-notch!

Brienne of Tarth is a fierce warrior with strong sword skills, courage and determination. Because she's quite tall, fierce and unfeminine in appearance, she was denied a position as a knight even though she is a strong warrior.

One quality I admire about Brienne of Tarth is her belief: every knight must be chivalrous and honour their vows. This was what set her apart from the other characters in this series. She swore to Catelyn Stark (the lady of one of the great houses of the seven kingdoms) to bring back her children, Sansa and Arya, after they were taken by returning Jaime Lannister to King's Landing in exchange. This was her mission through most part of this series and she later became the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

Brienne endured ridicule, rejection, fought battles and fulfilled every promise or oath she made. I admire not only her physical strength but also the values she stood for. She did not allow the rules of her society to hold her back or keep her from being her best self —both as an individual and as a warrior.

These are some of the reasons Brienne of Tarth is one of my favourite fictional/fantasy characters.

That's a impressive pick I would say. Although It's Very Difficult to choose One among many memorable and glorious characters of GOT. My Favourite is Arya Stark ☺️ !lol !PIZZA

Haha, I'm not surprised that Arya Stark is your favourite in this series. Many viewers love her and I admire her courage and strength too! But, Brienne won me over more! 😄

I like strong women too even though it's scary and pretty much looks like a death sentence. One thing I've come to know about strong women is that they have a soft heart, forget the strong outlook, they're pretty much sweet when you get to know them.

Brienne of Tarth reflected this so well, she showed so much care even for people who didn't care shit about her. Her devotion was long like no other and she was clearly selfless..

Great pick my dear ❤️❤️

...though it's scary and pretty much looks like a death sentence

😄 You are right! But the outside should not deter you. Like Brienne, most strong women I know always have a heart. That's the most important thing and the reason I admire Brienne of Tarth!

Thanks for your visit. !PIZZA 🙂

My favorite fantasy character is Frodo from the Hobbit. He has so much courage for a little guy.

Ohhh, I LOVED Brienne! She was one of my favorites in GOT.
Such strength, and pure heart. Jamie wasn't good enough for her...
(although he did get nicer because of her).
