A financial atomic bomb about to go off? Don't stress, or maybe you should (for those who aren't crypto enlightened), after watching this action-packed film by Guy Ritchie, one of my favourite directors. Another thing: this film features one of my favourite actors, Jason Statham! There's never a dull moment with this tough, suave guy and as such, you can be sure this film is attention-grabbing and packed with intense adrenaline pumping scenes.

Why is the world banking system always a centre of attraction and point target of attack in action novels and films? I hope this is not some sort of prediction and warning. It's possible that its happening for real and Guy Ritchie, writer, producer and director, thought it better to bring it to us via our screens.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023) is a spy crime thriller that focuses on Orson Fortune (played by Jason Statham), a tough and rebellious spy who is recruited by the British government to find a missing device called 'the handle' stolen by some Ukrainian hitmen. The device is very important as a billionaire arms dealer, Greg Simmonds (played by Hugh Grant), is hired to sell it.

Orson is paired with two operatives: a computer expert/hacker and a hitman to retrieve the device before it's sold. To get close to Greg Simmonds via a fundraiser hosted on a yacht, Orson blackmails Greg’s favourite actor, Danny Francesco (played by Josh Hartnett), to join his team to infiltrate Greg's world.

As this team enters dangerous grounds to retrieve this special device, their lives are threatened. Will Orson Fortune succeed in handling the situation or will a former British agent gone rogue beat them to the device?

Review

Guy Ritchie is known for some notable quality works like Sherlock Holmes films, The Gentlemen, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Wrath of Man etc. I have watched all of these and more. I can attest that there is a class to his films but Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre may have surpassed them all.

This film brings back memories of action/crime thrillers made in the 90s. I'll say the entertainment industry no longer makes films like this anymore —films with captivating plots, a hit cast, compelling performance and great visuals. They are getting fewer.

For a movie of one hour, fifty-three minutes viewing time, the action is superb and draws in the audience. It is also fast paced. It begins from the very first minute of the film till the last. This means if you have a short attention span, you will stay glued to your screen as you see this film.

The cast is outstanding. Their acting is top notch and they exude great chemistry. I've always loved Jason Statham in action. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is a cross between Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible and James Bond movies. I'm not sure how the stunts were done but Jason Statham did not pull his punches. His fight scenes are impressive.

Apart from Statham, another cast member that captures our attention is Audrey Plaza. Her performance as Jason Statham's badass computer expert and sidekick is excellent. I feel her talent is underutilised and she should have been given more to do. An interesting character to watch out for is billionaire George Simmonds played by Hugh Grant. His humour is endearing.

The cinematography and visuals are superb. In addition to the action scenes, the film focuses on dangerous business deals and the parties trying to outsmart each other. The dull and not-so smart parties end up becoming the losers.

The exotic locations and sceneries caught my fancy. They are cool to watch (and daydream of, if you are like me), the action and combat scenes kept me on the edge of my seat and the humour nailed the film as lovable. I think Guy Ritchie has out done himself with this one.

Any Guy Ritchie films are classics, in my opinion. If you are hoping for a film that showcases fun, action and clever storytelling, then Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is the one! If you have seen Bullet Train and The Gentlemen, you will absolutely love this one!

I glad you enjoyed this movie like I did. I love all the locations used for the movie. Guy Ritchie just like to dose us with classics. I think Statham and Plaza stole the spotlight but then the rapper Bugzy Malone also caught my attention on a low key. This was a fantastic read. Thank you for sharing!

I agree, Guy Ritchie is good! Bugzy Malone too did great in the movie. It was after watching I discovered he's a rapper/actor. 😆 The guy is neat and good looking, I'll give you that! Hehe.

Finally I get a review. A friend of mine was using this movie to taunt me. He didn't want to tell me what the movie is about forgetting that I've got kemmyb😅

Jason Statham is an amazing actor and that's a fact. I'd find a way to watch this movie.

Thank you for reviewing 🤗

He didn't want to tell me what the movie is about

😅 He was trying to get you to watch it! If I heard some synopsis or gist of a film, I'm always reluctant to watch it thereafter. Jason Statham did great as always. You'll love it! Thanks for your visit. !LUV
